oh shit dude [editline]2nd February 2015[/editline] next step is to probably make it work without exploding
This game is amazing. I regret buying it though because I'm fucking TERRIBLE at building things and can barely get past the first few levels.
This game is amazing. With all the webms of this game, they should add a native video rendering->webm output. Gmod has this.
Why is this game so addicting? Is it the cartoony but gruesome art? Or the wonderful soft body physics? Or the hilarious way shit blows up? I think its all of that. It feels a lot like the wonder gmod gave me when it was still relevant (sorry garry but its true.)
~1700 parts. Runs at 8fps even without physics on my laptop that otherwise runs the game at 60fps. I've recorded a video of it at 2% speed, and I'm currently rendering a time-corrected version out from After Effects.
So apparently my saved machines folder for the nonsteam version not only doesn't exist, but has never existed. And yet I can still load my machines. They still exist, I can load them ingame, but I can't find them to move them to the Steam version. And when I created one and tried to save afterward, it still wasn't saving there. The nonsteam copy is saving and loading nonexistent files from a nonexistent folder.
Check out my SICK creation, I call it the DEATH BUG Looks like a normal car-thing with guns, right? Well, with a press of a button the plow on the front and the rear armor pops off, putting the "wings" off to the side, which reveals spikes, roof armor, and puts the guns off to the sides to aim at dudes on the ground better.
Are you sure you're in the correct directory, that seems pretty silly.
There's only one place it could be.
So what happens when you try to click on the directory link to your saves in game?
Directory does not exist. It flat out didn't exist. So I created it myself. It now links to that directory, but it saves nothing there, and loads nothing from there.

When I first installed the steam edition the saved machines folder was no where to be found, launched the game, still not there, it wasn't until I clicked on the load machines button, and then closed it, that the folder existed. I just dragged and dropped from there and haven't had an issue since.
Directory does not exist. It flat out didn't exist. So I created it myself. Also, I managed to upgrade my Eindecker design to have extra props and a rudder. It's now so maneuverable that it can literally run rings around the stone tower in the sandbox.
non-steam version saves should be located in the game folder. so i'm assuming that the game cached the saves somewhere or something.
This has to be the case because I duplicated the program folder for the nonsteam version, which left the "- Copy" appended to it. That copy could not access the saves. But when I renamed it to match the original, it had access to the save again. So I need to track down where it is storing them. Mysteries of Windows 8.
I'm talking about the non steam version.
The location is exactly the same, I'm not sure what went wrong. I haven't had any issues on Windows 8 so far. Edit: On the non-steam version the folder was created once I had saved a machine, try deleting the folder, then save a basic machine. You still can't save at all? Sorry if I'm making you repeat yourself. Edit 2: So you can save, you just don't know where it is? Did you try this [t]http://i.imgur.com/VZS9K3T.png[/t] (Win+Q)
What's a good starting point to not build shitty machines? I'm having a little trouble with mine and I feel like I'm lacking some kind of basic understanding of the game here.
What's a good starting point to not build shitty machines? I'm having a little trouble with mine and I feel like I'm lacking some kind of basic understanding of the game here.
What kind of machine exactly are you trying to accomplish?
I tried to make a tank but the wheels shot off in all directions. I'm not sure why, but at least I killed everything in the process :v:
Weird. Check if your wheels are all spinning in one direction (they were random for me once :v: ) Also, start with just plain wheels, then if it works add steering, if that worked add suspension, etc. That's how I do it
I tried to make a tank but the wheels shot off in all directions. You have to remember that - right now at any rate - steering in Besiege doesn't have a maximum limit, nor will it snap back to 90-degrees when you let go of the button. If you were to try and steer by holding down the button, the wheels would try to do a 360 around the hinge, annihilating whatever it hits. Alternatively, the wheel might just be clipping into the chassis at all times. In which case, mount the wheel slightly farther away from the chassis with a 1x1 block.
Oh fuck I didn't realize that they didn't have a limit on turning. I also apparently had clipping wheels. The wheels proceeded to cut my entire contraption in half not too long ago as well :v: [editline]3rd February 2015[/editline]
Weird. THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE, THEY SAID YOU'D NEVER PUT A CATAPULT ON A FLYING MACHINE this thing is way too much fun to play with
Apparently 4chan's really into this, made tons of cool machines: [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22370734/grabs%20katana.webm[/vid] [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22370734/cowboy%20with%20a%20tude.webm[/vid] [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22370734/spider%20tank%202.webm[/vid] Saved like 40 of these, amazing stuff.
I hope they add the ability to flip those propeller blades next update. The corkscrews are fine for a while, but I can't tell you how many of my designs have been literally shot down because I couldn't make counter-rotating props.
I heard the current engine doesn't support multiplayer, so before any other changes, I hope this game's popularity will justify an engine switch for the dev. I'd love to see any sort of multiplayer, be it machine duels, coop, competitive... right now the best you can do is build two machines in sandbox mode and rebind them so two people can play on the same computer.
I'd like to just see a splitscreen mode and gamepad support for local-multiplayer.
I hope this game gets workshop support soon. It'll be much easier trying out other people's stuff.
If they do that I hope they recycle the Tutorial tooltip feature to allow people to creators instructions like the default keybinds for controlling their machine.
