[QUOTE=ScottyWired;47079390]I love how the whole community has this natural scientific progression. Go back a few pages and we couldn't even make a quadcopter work. Now we've got bombers, cowboy robots with revolvers and now the motherfucking chaos engine which breaks through the ice barrier which the devs put in specifically to stop us going that high E: oh yeah and paradox bombs[/QUOTE] [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22370734/true%20chaos%20podracer.webm[/vid] People are already podracing with chaos engines. Truly this is the future.
[QUOTE=kimr120;47078840]God damn it. I made the tracks not wide enough on mine. That explains it. [T]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/528380967243615326/0AF0C3E1B1D3BF23B5D71BD96DC4CE219EEA1F9A/[/T] EDIT: Made a double-tracked version based on your design. The game runs at 3 fps, totally not worth it. [T]http://cloud-2.steamusercontent.com/ugc/528380967245476706/F6FBB3A06EF22175FDFF581DBF15578C52863535/[/T][/QUOTE] Single tracks work fine, and in many ways better than double track. I mostly just did double because I didn't want it to tip over right away because I was only building one track, and because it made it easier to put on the tank (the frame in mine was because I had to put the track on before I could start moving it). The main issue with your single track one is the links are too long for the diameter of the wheels, and secondly, you have no height to the wheel system. There is a reason fixed tracks (no suspension movement ) quickly fell out of favour with tanks. But as for framerate with tracks, drop the simulation rate between 50-75%. Hugely improves performance.
bomb proof EOD vehicle? why not [vid]http://zippy.gfycat.com/AromaticPlushBlackmamba.webm[/vid] [vid]http://zippy.gfycat.com/KlutzyEqualIndianspinyloach.webm[/vid] [url]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4608952/EOD.bsg[/url]
I wonder what the devs are thinking about all this. They probably expected complaints about lack of content, but instead it spawned incredible creativity.
Besieged really reminds me of the first Little Big Planet with all the amazing crap everyone is able to pull off with sort-of limited resources.
These chaos engines are one of the best discoveries ever, it is exactly what I'd imagine a medieval magic warp-drive to be like. I will be seriously disappointed if they decide to patch it, chaos engines should be a feature.

We need a new thread title "Besiege - The best kind of surprise is the one where everyone dies" [editline]5th February 2015[/editline] And maybe a general update to the OP with some more information and highlights.
Been watching videos of this all night then noticed it was $7 on Steam. Fucking sold. This is only my second early access purchase and I hope it pans out as well as my first (Space Engineers)

Maybe we'll eventually become bored, but I don't think they'll fuck this up.

And unlike the "some blocks not sticking together correctly" bug that was patched, it's unlikely Average Joe will ever accidentally create a Chaos Engine that screws up his build. But just in case the Chaos Engine gets cut, people are already working on antigravity powered by a superposition glitch... or something like that: [vid]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22370734/superposition-powered%20antigravity%20in%20the%20works.webm[/vid] But on the topic of Chaos Engines, someone pointed out that living villagers flailing for their life for some reason have more gravity than fireballs/bombs/spiky balls, so there's a chance people will create chaos engines fueled by terrorized, screeching people sooner rather than later.

[vid]http://a.pomf.se/jpqqwy.webm[/vid] hooray for chaos engines
So it turns out my swastika engine works really well as helicopter blades [vid]http://a.pomf.se/ewefyw.webm[/vid] It accelerates pretty fast and just activating the pistons lets you slowly hover down. I tried to show the hovering at :42
[QUOTE=paul simon;47080013]I wonder what the devs are thinking about all this. They probably expected complaints about lack of content, but instead it spawned incredible creativity.[/QUOTE] In some ways, less content gets more creative results. If there was an engine block, the chaos engine wouldn't have been as popular. It's making do with what we have, and the fact the physics engine supports that sort of stuff. That, and building siege engines to destroy/kill stuff is fun.
you guys do know that [sp]you can just place four wheels in a line (no need for the sawblades nor the flaming ball, it does nothing)[/sp] to achieve the crazy torque? Plus it's controllable. But looks way less cool :v:
[QUOTE=paul simon;47080195]It's already a bunch of fun and worth it. Maybe we'll eventually become bored, but I don't think they'll fuck this up.[/QUOTE] The game is already fun but it also has a lot of potential that I'd hate to see wasted. Hopefully they'll stick to their promises and won't just add two blocks and call it finished.

For now, more chaos engine porn: [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZw1bn9M338[/media]
[QUOTE=JoonazL;47080411][vid]http://a.pomf.se/jpqqwy.webm[/vid] hooray for chaos engines[/QUOTE] Can you share how you made that engine? Trying to replicate it but it keeps breaking apart.

Besiege: Shut up and Jam Gaiden [vid]http://a.pomf.se/tslych.webm[/vid] I did one with the engine, I guess I made a chaos dunk :v:, but this one can't be launched due to the torque, so I just had to drop it. [vid]http://a.pomf.se/mjfogz.webm[/vid]

"Chaos Engine Researcher/Engineer" has become like an actual profession now.
[QUOTE=Doctor Zedacon;47081188]"Chaos Engine Researcher/Engineer" has become like an actual profession now.[/QUOTE] "Yes yes your résumé is very impressive, but... how's your Besiege glitch repertoire?"
i bought this on a whim and i like it...but i'm not clever enough to make anything really useful.
[QUOTE=Pernoccuous;47081392]i bought this on a whim and i like it...but i'm not clever enough to make anything really useful.[/QUOTE] You could start with a car basis and try to build on it to beat campaign missions to get comfortable with the editor. Here's a compact and simple car design using only wood, wheels and the rebind function (the wrench icon in the upper toolbar): [vid]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22370734/wheels%20without%20steering%20blocks%20tutorial.webm[/vid] Oh yeah and you can rotate parts with R, or flip them while hovering over them with F. HFGL!
[QUOTE=Marik Bentusi;47080800]I'm having trouble believing it'd amount to the same level of torque, gotta test it later with two rockets or something. [/QUOTE] You're right, sawblades are more powerful, but they're uncontrollable (you can reduce the power by utilizing steering on the propellers though). The fiery ball is just for show tho :v:
tested that shit to confirm what I read on /v/ fireball gives more torque, spikeball more lift

The fiery ball is just for show tho :v:[/QUOTE] I think the spike ball gives you the most stability, someone made a pretty nice bomber with it.
