Well, yeah. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't. About the only part I could think of that would break is the wood supports.

Put a block in front of the object you're placing the pole on so that there is only one block of free space between that block and what you're sticking the pole to.
Stick pole between both objects.
Double length pole will turn into just 1 block pole.
Delete the cube in front of it.

Wow, piston engines are really stable, it seems, and they put out an appreciable amount of torque. Not nearly as much as chaos engines, but I made a small autogyro thing that stayed vertical for far longer than a similar thing powered by a CE.

It's actually pretty neat. I was able to steer over to the statue in the sandbox and take it out without damaging myself.
