Not sure if this is even the right place to ask this anymore, but trying to import a Gmod/ SFM model into Unity while keeping its shaders intact seems particularly difficult with this special guy.

This guy uses a lot of special lighting trickery in the Source engine to achieve its tinted metal effect (using a custom green phong exponent texture to tint the phong through its albedo, as well as a custom gold phong warp texture), but I have absolutely no idea how I would even go about implementing any of that back in through Unity. It doesn't really appear to have a Shader that compares to it.
Closest logical thing would probably be the Legacy Shaders/ Bumped Specular, but as you can see it just doesn't quite hit the same effect.

(Only look at the body texture for example, didn't finish tinkering with the head, arms or legs yet)
Can you post the VMT file for the armor? He probably uses a combination of env_map and tinted phong. You need to extract the phonemap from either the bumpmap alpha or from a dedicated phonemap texture. Throw that into photoshop/gimp and color it yellow.
You probably need to use the Standard shader rather then the Specular one to get closer to the desired result.

It doesn't use an env_map, but it does use a tinted phong, as I said earlier. Here's the rundown of the VMT.

The "Standard (Specular Setup)" did actually give me better results in the sense that it brought back the metal sheen look, but I couldn't figure out how to tint it correctly.

Actually scratch that. Just saw the above post. The $phongtint value disables the albedotint entirely. Why would they include both?
Well that means it just multiplies both tints on top of one another with zero albedotint. So no need to alter the existing specular mask at all really.

Apparently Unity reads legacy specular from the diffuse alpha.

Yeah I already figured that out. But I was talking about the phong warp, not the specular.
I'll try your earlier suggestion though and see how well it works.

Seeing that is has a phonewarp AND a phongalbedotint, this is going to be kinda interesting. You need to combine those maps like BlueFlytrap suggested. Since the VMT has "$phongexponent" in it, that means it will overwrite "$phongexponenttexture" and you can just use the normal specular shininess slider in unity.
You can ignore "$PhongWarpTexture" as you cannot really use it in unity (at least with the standard or legacy shaders) iirc. Luckily it also uses phongtint.

Well it WORKS, so I guess that's good enough. :thinking:
I'll share it once I get the chance to test how well the hands work in motion tracking later. Also keep in mind there are no extra bells and whistles to this thing like custom emotes or jigglebones as I have no idea how to do any of that.
(Also it still has that "puff-out-chest-like-an-idiot" syndrome when not using VR. I've been told it's a common bug with HL2 skeletons but no matter what I've tried to fix it nothing works.)
Had a blast again at the Void Club last night. Really recommend y'all check it out if you haven't already, it has some seriously awesome music and great atmosphere.
Gave my voice a break and kept my mic muted, but still received attention due to dancing for over an hour straight, which is apparently significant. One of the people who pointed this out, a Reg (from Made in Abyss) who I danced with at one point, said that he had to add me as a friend, and added "we gotta slow dance sometime."

Does anyone have like an example avatar with working gesture overrides with sound that they could send me? I ask because I've tried following tutorials on how to get sound working but it just doesn't work. I really need to see with my own eyes what a working one looks like so I can emulate it.

sometimes shit like this is caused by actual worlds, The Basement is nice and all but as soon as you grab something, it's like a trigger activates and doesn't deactivate cause the more you release and grab, the more the frames plummet.
