Richard Hammer is cool guy. Speedruns Binding of Isaac and doesn't afraid of anything.
Huge bump, but I feel this is relevant and important: Prepare your butts for tomorrow.
What are some recommended Live Commentated Speedruns of recent games? Like 2006 and later. Just watched a Skyrim and a Fallout 3 Speedrun.
What are some recommended Live Commentated Speedruns of recent games? Like 2006 and later. Just watched a Skyrim and a Fallout 3 Speedrun.
Half-Life 2: DWaHMoV, HL21 are two worth watching.
Now that AGDQ is (sadly) over, what's everyone working on? I'm returning to running AW2:Black Hole Rising normal campaign any percent. Currently timing a bunch of levels to see which way is faster, and its funny, there are some strategies which take less turns, but more real time than the routes I use :v: Also, anyone up to race it maybe? It used to be somewhat active on SRL, with people running each chunk of the campaign as its own category (Orange Star 100%, Blue Moon 100%, etc) but it hasn't been touched in a while.
digging this thread up to announce that i've finished documenting a f.e.a.r. 1 run (steam version, because version 1.00 is nowhere to be found). i'm planning on doing this with all f.e.a.r games including the timegate expansions. Hey, thanks for bumping. Anyone remember Portal Done Pro? Same guy's doing Dying Light. I think I might try to run this game.
Reviving thread to say that I started running Mirror's Edge. My current PB is 46:28 RTA (43:38 game time), and I stream semi-regularly at http://www.twitch.tv/cuon_alpinus/ This game is so much fun, seriously. Anyone with a decent PC should totally try running this game.
My god that makes me want to see an hl2ep1 dwahmov now
I think I read somewhere that EP1 isn't good for this stuff because it's almost entirely cutscenes and there's very little to skip.
I think I read somewhere that EP1 isn't good for this stuff because it's almost entirely cutscenes and there's very little to skip.
Actually there's one in the works right now, and there are heaps of skips, of course it's not going to be as insane as Ep2DQ but it'll be something definitely worth watching.
I don't know if any Facepunchers follow the GTA speedrunning community, but I'd still like to share this, because it's pretty damn insane. Vice City is being completely torn apart by glitches and exploits. The competition is also pretty intensive, as evidenced by the leaderboards they use. I'll embed a video right here because this post looks REALLY bad with just the plain text. I'll try to put together a short explanation of why the times are this short. At one point, someone discovered a replay glitch, where you could buy properties without spending money on them (you still need the money, it just isn't subtracted). Then, they found out they could actually manipulate the game's flags to their advantage with the very same glitch. You had to save a replay (a not-very-known feature of 3D Universe GTA games was the replay system, which would show the last 20 seconds or a set range in time) over a rampage trigger, because French and German versions of the game disabled them. Then, just as the runner enters a mission trigger, they activate the replay of them both starting the mission and the rampage simultaneously - which leads to the flags in the game's code having a trouble distinguishing whether the player is doing a mission at the moment or not. This, for example, lets them completely skip Jury Fury, because due to doublestarting the missions, the jurors' cars spawn twice on top of each other, which makes them continuously take damage, thus pass the mission. Then, the runners discovered that it can be abused to let them complete two assets instead of four required by the game - by duplicating the Print Works asset missions to make the game think the final mission of an asset is being completed the required amount of times. This was quite a big discovery, as it proved that completing Vice City in under an hour was indeed possible. And THEN, someone decided to import the Japanese version and test it for potential time saves (no, there's no faster text scrolling :v:). A new glitch was found, which utilized phonecall abuse and mission script abuse (rampage replays). Eventually, the time was cut down by 40 seconds in comparison to old strats - and it was only improved from there on. In the end, you can see how much has the game changed. In 2013, a 1h30m run was an achievement. It's 2015 now, and Vice City has been brought down to a fifty-five minute run. You can see the first three places (at the time of writing this post) by clicking on these links. I think watching the runs will be a better explanation than those words.
...speaking of which, the final race of the Vice City speedrun tournament is taking place RIGHT NOW, so get in, people! (I felt like that was a good reason to bump the thread. Plus, I only just found out about the final stage, so yeah, I'm kinda late to the entire tournament, but early enough for the finale.)
We need more people to run CS:CZ:DS.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the game which was long considered to be unbreakable and absolutely awful to run, has just been brought down to a sub 5 hour world record. [t]http://puu.sh/lo6Yi/c2c3593222.png[/t] The runner is assuming he can still cut off at least five minutes from the run.

AGDQ2018 schedule is out
agdq2018 starts in about an hour or so stream page on twitch
And Twitch chat has managed to convince itself that AGDQ starts now, rather than in 30 or so minutes. The chat is in subscriber only mode now.
How do people manage to get so precise splits? It bothers me how i never know for sure if my new run was better than the last or not, because theres always that little time lost/unfairly gained when i toggle the level change. Also, i run flash games, so i don't have acess to the specialized programs some game communities offer. Is it just a matter of practice, or are there any lifehacks for this?
livesplit? i hope they do another demo like strider at the next agdq, i want to set a time but im too lazy
