The Speedrun Thread -- Didn't get a critical hit? Reset the game. - Games

i picked up running jet set radio HD and its such a fun speedrun, these are my splits [img]http://i.imgur.com/Y5tuqNi.png[/img] the world record is 42:09, so i'm pretty far behind but there are so many small optimizations to make everywhere.

When I first started running Sunshine, I was at around 3:30:xx and above. Today, after a week or two of a break from it, I got 2:37:33. Sure, it's a terrible score, but it's much better than what I usually do. That time is also including using a memory card with over 10 deaths + a game over :v: Slowly improving, soon I'll be attempting without a mem. card to see if I can make it to the end.

I question I've always wanted to ask, to those more familiar with speedrunning than I, what defines the "best" low%? If it's one percentile lower in progress but takes twenty minutes longer, is that better or worse than a quicker run with a higher percentage? Would the whole low% speedrunning community around a game have to redo their runs along this new route to have a valid run again?

If the higher % is shorter by even a few seconds somehow, they'll use that one because they are still beating the game quicker. It all comes down to how fast the game is finished.

There's a reason most are called any% runs, the percentage isn't important.

I've been hyped for AGDQ for a while now. Shame there aren't too many games I'm interested on day 1, even though I'm still going to be watching.

Gonna miss the IWBTG and Hotline Miami runs because sleep, but it's more about the runs themselves for me.

I'm not really interested in most of the games at AGDQ but I'm waiting for IWBTG and Banjo Kazooie.

I hate you guys so much. I have 5 exams + traffic theory in the next week and a half and I can't pull my eyes off this goddamn stream. I'm not even into speedruns why is this so interesting.

i wish people ran neo contra, since no matter where i look there isn't a full 7 mission speedrun of the game that i know of.

If you liked hearing the things he talked about, go watch him on Game Grumps, pretty similar sort of topics were covered, but it's like an hour long if I remember.

Eeuugh, I don't care for days like today for AGDQ. The only game I feel like watching is Yoshi's Island by Trihex. Can anybody recommend a run happening that I should definitely tune in for?
