Grand Theft Auto Series Megathread V12 - GTA Online: We Have a Hacking Problem

GTA:O finally burned through the last of my patience with it and I uninstalled it this morning.
Wasn't sure what to expect coming back after like a year off, but I am sorely disappointed by what Rockstar have done with the game. I felt like a caveman facing off with people in freemode when they had explosive sniper rifles and flying rocket bikes - stuff that's locked behind such a high paywall that I will never access that content without buying shark cards or devoting more hours to the game than I do my job or my social life.
The comparison to a mobile game has never been more accurate. I even got a 'special offer' loading screen, apparently just for me, a timed cash bonus to shark card purchases over a certain amount. But I couldn't imagine ever paying for currency in this game. Why would you pay for something so insecure and so valueless?
You can have the shiniest cars and the nicest properties and multi-thousand dollar fucking sneakers and jackets, but when you load the game up, you've got no guarantee that you won't explode repeatedly, or get boats dropped on you. Maybe you'll be in the middle of some club work, and then your bike will instantly halt, and an invisible player will drive it around you before making it glow funny colours. Maybe there'll just suddenly be a cage all around you, and you'll need to kill yourself to get out.
If people aren't hacking to ruin your experience they're using the overpowered shit that Rockstar happily crams into the game to do so. Like the other day when I was transporting some package for a club contract, and a guy in a huge, heavily armoured truck manages to catch up to my motorbike, shoot me through the slits on the window, grab the package and then speed off like a looney toons character.
Looks like I was right originally, the Vapid Hustler is now available for $625,000. Karin 190Z will be released at some other point I guess.

Deadline, Lost Vs Damned, Resurrection, Slasher, and Till Death Do Us Part are on double cash and RP. Bunker variants are included for the last three modes.
Shotaro, Roosevelt Valor, Roosevelt, Stromberg, RCV, Barrage, and Buzzard are on sale.
Rockstar surely knows how to drag things. I was really looking forward to the 190z.
We haven't had a proper double money/rp event in ages, we need more double cash bunker stuff or vehicle export missions, preferably this time without false positives.
I would like to see double cash on VIP work, but I'm not expecting it ever.
I remember we've gotten that before, always fun.
Rockstar surely knows how to drag things. I was really looking forward to the 190z.
Everybody is. It's why it's probably going to be the last vehicle in their line of drip feed horse shit.
Rockstar posted an article about the new event. There is only one reason why I'm mentioning this and it's because of this:
Jump into GTA Online starting Friday, February 16th to claim a GTA$ award in March. More details coming Friday.
I wouldn't expect much, but it's still free shit.

As for the dripfeed, I think we only have two weeks left of it(190Z and Comet SR) before we can start worrying about the next update with another three month dripfeed.
[editline]d[/editline]
Kinda weird that they're going to make a separate newswire post about free shit, but I guess they could always reveal info about the next update as well.
Even if it's not the 190z, Hustler is decent looking at the very least.

Would anyone on xbone mind hosting Work Dispute for me? I'm trying to do this glitch to get the CEO vest & black pants but I need to be player 3.
The hustler completely killed my boner with that engine sound.

Killed mine by not being a 190z.

Last time I found myself at that point, I said fuck it, went on to Se7ensins forums, Paid a guy 25 bucks for 200 million, then started using the 'private public lobby' tool and only played with a select group of friends. Took me much longer to burn out.
I wouldn't even mind buying money from Rockstar if they didn't have a cash-for-GTA$ ratio that was so horribly insulting. I mean, seriously? 100 USD for 8 mil? You'll buy and half customize one supercar before that runs out. Or buy six outfits from a clothing store. Or buy one upgraded property.
Don't bother trying to obtain funds legitimately anymore. Enjoy the game if you still can - you bought and paid for it, nobody else did. But I don't hold T2 in high enough regard to bend over and reward them for being so anti-consumer. And neither, clearly, do you.
Same boat except I used a public hack to silent myself to 2.8b, its still sat on my 2nd character's cash because if I move over more than 500k I get hit by the int overflow and the game thinks I have no money. :v:
It's funny that R* probably "tweaked" the value of items in Online to promote Card sales... but ended up promoting public/private mods instead which offer more money than you'll ever get buying cards (and you can't guarantee you'll keep the card cash either. If you happen to pick up some modded money by accident, it's all taken from you - even though you paid for it!).
Online in its current state is just so boring and repetitive (been playing since launch on the PS3 which may explain why), you need a mod menu to actually make things which are fun (like race tracks in the sky etc). You may also need a private menu just to survive Freemode with all the skids trying to remote kick you or blame the lobby using your name instead. It's a farce!
That's on top of the bugs in the game like if you go over the max size of an int in terms of money - the game thinks you have none, so you cannot use the mechanic etc (but it works fine if you move everything into the bank and have nothing on hand...). You may also have the glitch were you cannot buy multiple pieces of body armour. For months, I'm only allowed to buy 1 piece of armour and if I move lobbies - that disappears so I've got to go back to Ammunation to buy another. It's a bloody mess and I'm not going to contact support because there's no point (I'll get nowhere. I've tried twice). I've got to live with it, or use a private menu to keep restoring my armour when I move lobbies because R*'s own bloody game can't do it by itself.
It's also funny how naive R* were when Online first came out. When Online first launched, it took 3 days (!) before RTM (real time modding) tools were released for the PS3 and due to a lack of anti-cheat (at all), you could really go to town in lobbies dicking about with things like changing vehicle gravity (many hours were had getting into strangers cars and making them slowly drift off into the air), storing chrome Hydras in your garage (with insurance!) etc. There was none of this "blame lobby" bullshit, just weird things like that. Initially it seemed R* wanted to pull a Max Payne 3 and move people into "cheaters pool" if they were banned but by the end of the 3rd week, people were actually banned (splashscreen n'all). That cheaters lobby never got used at all.
We've also had the time console players could use a specially created DNS server to serve your client with modified "tuneable" values with things like money multipliers or RP multipliers. People were running around with literal billions! (myself included and I never even asked for that) before they did their first (and only so far) global money reset because it got so bad.
...Then there was the time R*'s server security was so lax, mod menus (for the PS3 - they were just VCAHax2 clones) were uploaded into the cloud and downloaded onto people's games (it was a custom update.rpf file). If you had the right script file to invoke it on a Jailbroken PS3 (like I had at the time) you could just connect to Online and open the menu immediately without having to mess about with file explorers etc. This lasted for something like 3 months before they realised how we were modding, then it went back to local copies of menus. They also tried scanning files for the word "menu" which was idiotic as it was easily worked around (which is also why "Menyoo" is called that - or so I was told by one of Mafins' friends. It was originally a 360 menu before being ported).
They also had Cheater reports client side (P2P game), so we could just keep looping "positive" values over the negative reports, so by the time they were sent to the server - you were a glowing player, literally being showered in money from R* ("Good boy bonus"). They never cottoned onto this for for literal months, and when they did - it was moved into Tunables... but the more smart programmers in the community figured out the pointer to those in memory so it made absolutely no difference whatsoever.
R*'s got a colourful past regarding Online. It's worth reading up if you've got time.
I used to develop Online menus ages back (no griefing options at all) and the amount of stuff you could get away with was eye opening. Now I just lead an Enhanced Native Trainer fork and update that instead because I got sick of the cat and mouse game with Online, but even with SP - I'm still stung trying to get anti-vehicle despawn pointers etc because R* want to force me online to see the new "shiny vehicles" instead of spawning them in for free in SP.

This is exactly my issue with the Shark Cards. Not the buying in-game money with real money, but what you get for what you pay wasn't even that good when the game launched, and now that the price of everything has inflated to astronomical levels, it's an even poorer value for your money. And in the early days, I didn't mind playing missions and doing jobs to earn the cash for what I wanted, because although it was a bit of a grind, it was still reasonable and I could usually get enough cash to get that car I wanted in a few days of "casual" play, and then work my way towards buying all of the upgrades. It felt like I was being rewarded for my efforts. Now, if I want to earn the cash legit, it will take the same amount of time of balls-to-the-wall, maximizing efficiency grinding of the same work over and over to get what I want, by which point I'm bored of playing the game.
Having cheated money now just makes the game more fun. You can do what you want without worrying about if the pay is worth it or if you can afford to get something.

Also, I've found a pretty simple glitch with Hustler customization.
As far as I can tell, you can't normally get side panels and no fenders. All you have to do is go to Exhaust, pick Side Exit Exhaust and then scroll back up to Stock Exhaust. If you hit down to go to Stock it'll put the fenders back, but if you scroll up through the other options to Stock the fenders will be gone and the side panels will be back on.

Should I buy a Stromberg or a Deluxo? I want something that lets me survive rockets from people who try to kill me but still be suit for combat.
Lol about me crying about ratings? I was basically not taking anything of the sort of acting serious.
Half life 3 confirmed. GTA Half life mods, please. Back on topic, since it relates to that. But, I just apologise and move on.

What I would really like more than anything in this game right now would be the ability to remove clothes and accessories from your wardrobe. I'm a day one player so I have all the stuff from the Beach Bum update (when it deposited all of its contents directly into everyones' inventories, imagine that!) and it's a chore to scroll through hundreds of floral canvas hats just to find a hat I actually bought. Same with masks, I bought loads just for the novelty but there's really only 2-3 I actually like, and I wish it was more convenient to select them.
But this is just one of millions of things that could be improved about the game, and it's fairly low on the list of priorities.

Clothes are a mess in general. I wish that instead of scrolling through dozens of the same clothing but with different color/texture, it'd just be a single one which upon selecting, opens a submenu where you pick the color/texture/logo etc.
This alone would make buying clothes much less of a hassle.
Something akin to the custom weapon loadout except for clothes would be a nice wardrobe feature so you don't have 100 masks to scroll through
I rarely have to scroll through a lot of my stuff. I just save my favorite outfits and stick with those until we get new clothing items to try out.

Absolutely, I've thought a lot about how much simpler the clothing selection UI could be. It's at a point now where there are so many items in some of the categories that the game actually lags when you scroll through them. The system you described sounds perfect, Saints Row 1 is the only game I can think of that had a similar one and it worked well.

But that exists? You have something like 10 custom outfit slots that you can save outfits to, and even select from them out in the game world. Don't even need to be in your apartment/office/bunker/yacht/spaceship. Just can't be in an org.

You've misunderstood. What you're talking about is being able to save custom outfits. I'm talking about the ability to select what clothing items such as masks/hats/gloves etc that you want to see in your inventory. For example on my current character I have about 20+ mask/hats/gloves and glasses that I have to scroll through before I find the right one, I could save that item to an outfit for my dude if I wanted to, but sometimes I might want to wear a different one and having an outfit for each item I like would be stupid.
For example instead of having 20+ masks I could chose to only see the ~7 that I like. Same idea applies to other accessories. It's the exact same logic as the custom weapons loadout except applies it to the clothing items you can access from the interaction menu. You still have them, but ones you don't need are hidden until you disable the rule.
Also you can still use your custom outfits in an org/mc if you set the "Style" option to "None" in the SecuroServ/MC section of the interaction menu.

Wow a whole 1 MILLION DOLLARS? That's enough for one outdated car! They're so generous.
Eh, sounds useful if you have additional costs while selling crates or cars.
While I do make a lot of cash, I have a lot of utility charges for having all my businesses upgraded plus paying for all the personnel.
Then there is stuff like spending money for spawning cars, ghost organization to hide my cargo and executive helicopter to teleport back to my warehouse or office.
That million could probably cover up all those charges.
This is just to artificially boost their player numbers for the next two weeks, can't really see it as anything else tbh.
so I tried to do a smuggler's run mission
take a fighter plane, blow up some jets, take their narcotics. sounds fun doesn't it?
I get to the part of the map with the jets, and watch as they all spiral out of control and kill themselves without me firing a shot
the narcotics fell into the sea and there was nowhere nearby to land, so I thought I could just skim the surface and pick them up, accidentally crashed into the water, tbh that was my fault
so I respawn on the dock, and thus begins a nightmarish task of swimming out to sea, grabbing the narcotics, and immediately getting sprayed to death by Buzzards or one of the 5 jets that spawned (before they all crashed into the ground for no reason again)
I tried destroying the buzzards but the very nanosecond they die, another two spawn in the exact same spot.
It took me 10 minutes to swim about 30 meters to grab an item and bring it back to shore. I would have been there forever if a random player in a buzzard hadn't passed and destroyed the AI buzzards. Given the disposition of the average GTA:O player, this was nothing short of the miraculous return of Jesus Christ.
