but to not mention any concerns in the build could mean not bringing attention any places where improvement could be made if it's not already a known issue to you the developers.
Mentioning concerns is absolutely fine and, in fact, obviously the whole point of public testing. The only thing we ask, is that you bear in mind that if something is a concern to you, then it's more than likely also a concern to a bunch of other people. A hundred people saying, "hi, was just wondering if x is normal or if it's a bug" is fine and helpful. A hundred of people saying, "x sucks", is essentially the same but an awful lot more depressing to read.
Man I love curtains, make life so much easier. [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline] By having an Axe on primary slot and a shotgun on secondary, how do I swap between both?
Not sure how you switch primary and secondary but you can switch to a firearm by using 1 and a melee weapon by pushing 2. (might be the other way around but you get the idea)
Use 1,2, and 3 to swap weappons out. I forget which are which, but you have fire arms, melee, and stabby weapons binded to those keys. Also, the way I play this build is, if it feels out of place for me, it's probably a glitch/bug. And I'll have to deal with it until next build.
@PZ devs Have some god damn confidence. Stop jumping at people's faces for posting criticism, constructive or not. This isn't a professional forum, you don't have to read and accept everything as 100% fact. People shit at games for no reason, all the time. You guys, of all people, should know this. Just chill out a bit. Keep making the game, focus on it. There will always be people who shit on your game and those who blindly defend it. You'll just have observe it, no need to get into the middle of the fight. If you want real feedback, I'm pretty sure you know there are multiple solutions on setting up various type of trackers and community voting platforms. That 0007 to 0006 renaming thing also made me question why do you bend under the community. They don't code the game. They have no idea how this works. You should set up and work how it's comfortable to you, not community telling you how. On this note, keep your chin up. You're making a great game, so don't let your emotions cloud your judgement.
-indie dev whining-
your entire melee combat mechanism is trash and has been since the start, what are your plans to make it not trash? (User was banned for this post ("trolling" - GunFox))
Quick time events ;D [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline] Nah but for reals the combat is fine IMO. You should be avoiding combat, and there are actually a lot of elements in combat; type of weapon, distance from zombie, your fatigue level, number of zombies. You have to be constantly aware of youre surroundings or else some zombie will bite you from behind, its more than just "lol hold down control and click"
your entire melee combat mechanism is trash and has been since the start, what are your plans to make it not trash?
I thought that as well but you can learn pretty quickly how to use the weapons, keep at it! Here's a list of common weapons i use from weakest to strongest Kitchen Knife Pan Rolling Pin Bat Bat and Rolling Pin have a good range and strong knockback, remember to keep space between you and the zombie to get some stabs hits in before pushing them away
The combat system is actually pretty interesting considering you have a limited fov during the fight.

There is a few things, I want to point out that needs a bit of attention : When I move items from somewhere the items displayed disappear or something it just looks a bit strange can this be fixed? After that there is some issues with clicking objects, it just not really feels natural when I click it multiple times and not opens, this needs a bit of an attention too. Other then that it's coming around amazingly, I love it.
Stop reading places where we can't have mods delete threads of people being asshats before we have chance to read them and get put on a downer.
Just ignore him. Soda has a big history of trolling.
And the download is down :V can anyone upload the build somewhere so i can give it a shot? i do have a legit account / password so that wont be an issue
Hmm, came across a zombie that took at least 20 axe hits, still didn't go down, and he managed to bleed me dry, break my legs and kill me.
For FUCK sake. Sick of reading this. THE ZOMBIE SPAWNING IS A BUG, FOR THE BILLIONTH TIME. The 'original design'? Please render unto me a break. It's the same fucking design, it's the same fucking game, it's a test release where we warn explicitly EVERY TIME YOU LOAD THE GAME that there are bugs, so please stop with how 'the new design' this like we thought 'I know what this game needs, it's ever spawning zombies that appear randomly all around the player out of the blue' as that'll really nail the 'realistic zombie survival sim' thing we're going for. Sorry for being angry, but so sick of hearing this. We shoulda held it in closed testing another two months and put up with all the 'JUST RELEASE IT NAUO' we got day in day out, because this is EXACTLY WHAT WE FEARED and every time we said 'this is what we fear' all we got was 'aww we understand it's just a test version, we're meant to be alpha funded testers goddamn it! why cant we have it? we won't go aruond posting on forums all over the internet how 'the latest release is a buggy mess' or make snap judgements on the direction the game is going based on bloody bugs that'll be fixed within a week' - so we finally get wore down and think 'perhaps we're being unfair on people, if we do a forum release and make a big big deal about how the game isn't really ready to be fully experienced as a working game and WILL have serious game breaking bugs in it that we can look to the forum to help us find and fix easier, maybe we won't get complaints about it all over the net.' we shulda listened to our gut and made people wait another couple of months, because apparently text thrust into faces every time you load the game isn't enough to get the point across.
Whoa, I figured that it was a bug. It was a discussion on whether or not to play the current build or to wait for RC3 proper. Someone stated that 2.9 was basically feature complete, and we disagreed, highlighting the fact that zombie spawns aren't currently functional as they should be and that the game is tedious in its current state. I apologize though, I should have made it far more clear that I wasn't being critical of the entire game, I assume that the spawns and everything else will be fixed, I was trying to establish that this is very much a test build and not feature complete or bug free. I know you folks get a lot of flak. It reads like 'Project Zomboid has gone in a design direction that makes it tedious'. That's not constructive, that's damaging to the game and possibly turning potential customers away from buying it, or making existing customers get angry about our supposed 'design changes' and coming to the forum to complain and make our lives more difficult, and is factually incorrect as it's based on a test build where it is warned it's a buggy test forum build not for wide-scale public consumption and the issues he describe are bloody obviously bugs. Find it humorous that people have tagged my last post as 'friendly' though.
It wasn't intended to be constructive, as it wasn't directed at you. My faith that it is a bug is precisely why I'm not complaining on your forums. I just didn't want the guy to play the build expecting it to be complete. You are right though, as it isn't fair to discuss a test build without properly establishing the fact that it is very much a test build, I'll append a disclaimer to the post in question.
Did the new build actually even require your username and pass? I dont remember logging in.
I had to. Maybe your details were in the registry or something from a previous version?
Did the new build actually even require your username and pass? I dont remember logging in.
It asked me for my desura key, but only the first time i opened it.
Since a lot of people downloading have caused them to remove the download links from the website, is there anywhere else hosting a copy of 2.9? I was going to wait for the full RC 3, but I have an entire weekend to do nothing in so I was going to start early.

Anyhow, he did point out things which could be worth looking into. And again, I understand how frustrating it can be to hear the same thing over and over again. But it's bound to happen, no matter in which state of release the game is in.
Maybe the text at the beginning should be:: TEST VERSION THERE WILL BE FUCKING BUGS STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING I bet it would be more effective.
Maybe the text at the beginning should be:: TEST VERSION THERE WILL BE FUCKING BUGS STOP FUCKING COMPLAINING I bet it would be more effective.
Heh, they did. It is on the download page near the top. Also, is there a way for people who are interested in submitting bugs to gain access to the mantis bug tracker? I had used it a couple years back in the first few versions, unless you guys don't use that anymore. I feel as though I am just mentioning bugs you already know. I tried indiestone.com/mantis but that just takes me to the forums now.
Nevermind, I found a mirror of it on the forum thread for the update. Got 20 minutes in, with left click only making my character shove thin air. I checked 2-3 houses, then realized I had a horde following me. I misjudged how fast the shamblers were and tried to force a window open to get inside. It didn't work and I turned around to try running away when one of them bit me. I wanted to shove him away but left click didn't function after I got bit for some reason? I basically sat there and took it until the horde caught me and ripped me to shreds. Still wouldn't have it any other way, except maybe not shoving them away. Would have felt pretty cool if I lived.
but still people are being a bit bitchy about it. sure there's shitloads of feedback but a lot of people can't help but be at least a bit of a dick about it. i can't play and i'm not even mad, i knew it was going to happen because this is a fairly unstable test build. there's entitlement and it's just funny to observe.
I love getting rated dumb for being right
Are we able to cut down trees yet?
Are we able to cut down trees yet?
I did when I was playing, but in the 16 days I was alive, never found a saw. It was more effective to bust down doors and use the boards instead.
I did when I was playing, but in the 16 days I was alive, never found a saw. It was more effective to bust down doors and use the boards instead.
So you need a saw? i can't use an axe?
Holy shit that feel when you start managing to survive for more than a day, getting the hang of the game, and by god it is really awesome when you get all hurt and fucked up but manage to survive.
So you need a saw? i can't use an axe?
You use the axe to chop the tree down into logs. You need a saw to cut those logs into boards. You can't use an axe to make boards from logs. It's not like you would want to, I mean the best you could probably do is split a log into halves, and then maybe shave off the tops, but when the logs get long, splitting it evenly down the middle becomes near-impossible.
I love getting rated dumb for being right
Totally not narcissistic at all.
