Earlier today I cut myself to break into a house. A day later I started getting sick. I didn't have the hypochondriac trait on and I didn't remember being scratched, so I was a little mad because I thought it was a glitch (and I had just grabbed my favorite zombie killing weapon, a bat). When the fever kicked in I ate a few apples and went to bed.
Watching the status bar I saw my health fully recover and my sickness moodle went away. And I was so happy.
Then a super fast zombie bit into my right shin and I ragequit.
I just raged quit because I was literally walking around through forest/long stretches of road for a good hour of real time without seeing one house or one zombie. It said my guy was going to pass out from exhaustion but I literally kept walking for another 20 minutes and nothing happened.

The map is unfinished at the moment.
There are clues to tell you when you've left the developed area - highways will become unmarked, for instance. New in 2.9 is seamless map travel; in 2.0 you could only travel a short distance before hitting the edge of the map, whereupon you'd get hopelessly lost.
In the current version, almost all of the developed content is along the highway to the Northwest. There is nothing to the North, and the farther South you go the more sparse the town becomes. Once you hit woods in any direction there is nothing beyond.

Well don't run into the forest alone then, you crazy bastard.
It feels good to finally get in the swing of things. You establish yourself a little schedule, you plan-out where you want to scavenge, you sneak around trying not to overextend your known boundaries.
Good stuff.
I went into a little scavenging trip at the clinic to get some useful medical supplies. It was getting late, so I decided to sleep there instead of going back out in the middle of the night. The tension while my character was dozing-off was palpable. Fortunately, my character made it back to his safehouse in one piece when morning came.

Lol I was running away from zombies I had no where else to go!
How can I cook stuff? I mean like, make a sandwich or something.
That's not why you die. You die because the wound is infected. Not because of "zombie venom".
a wound takes days to become infected. "zombie venom" is more of a trope than an actual thing
You die because the virus kills you and then you reanimate.
yeah but what about zombie fiction where everyone is already infected?
[editline]8th May 2013[/editline]
also i hope to fuck i can eventually start the game without crashing...
if not then i guess ill be forced to buy a new computer.. well have the reason that was the straw that broke the camel's back regarding my wet feet of tossing this decade old relic out the window and replacing it with a modern powerhouse.
iirc isn't the whole "it's not the bite that infects you it's just the bite that kills you" concept a relatively new one in zombie mythos, or at least to the "mainstream" incarnations of the genre.
I don't really recall seeing it much up until the Walking Dead, usually because storytellers using the mythos never felt the need too explain why zombies existed unless it was crucial to the plot (like how Night of the Living Dead had a few different explanations as to why the dead were rising).

Technically infection is instant, as once the foreign contagion makes contact with your system, you're infected. So when you apply dirty bandages to a wound, you would have been infected immediately, but it will take time for the infection to spread, and for you to notice the effects.
I suppose the "already infected" theory would follow the idea that everyone has it and is dormant, but when bitten, a catalyst is administered via blood/saliva, which activates the virus. And maybe when the host dies, the white blood cells would die out, in which the virus then emits it's own catalyst, starting up the zombification process. The virus would have to be pretty smart (as far as viruses are concerned) for that second bit, though.
Just wait for the update.
EDIT: I just found a video explaining how a virus invades the body.

I survived about 9 days and some hours. I got bit a few times defending my home from a bunch of zombies that followed me.

Also, off topic but thanks for linking that video, actually helped me with some biology review haha.
Am I the only one who doesn't make myself a home? I just kinda run around the whole time going from door to door scavenging supplies and then sleeping at random houses when I need to.
Woo! found a three story warehouse with literally hundreds of crates in it, has everything you need to survive, bed, water, and you can go on the roof.
Can anybody tell me where the police station is on that map?

The police station is in the far south west, just off the highway.
Also good god, stay away from the second floor of that warehouse. That catwalk will kill you.
I have a really hard time finding water bottles or something I can use to get water.
I have a really hard time finding water bottles or something I can use to get water.
Really? Quite a few things let you get water now. Kettles, pop bottles, whiskey bottles (empty them), and bowls. It's not too hard to come across at least one of those!

I allways a hard time finding them.
But I just found out you just can drink from the toilet, without any needs of bottles or anything.
Guys seriously go to the petrol station. I already found some guns there last time but HOLY SHIT.
3 pistols 4 shotguns and around 150 ammo for each.
And I got bitten again

Do zombies still walk through the petrol station walls?
Does anyone know why the game does not even launch on my computer. Im running windows 7 64 bit and i heard that can cause some stuff to happen but i installed 32 bit java so anything else i might be missing?
Did you try the safe mode .bat?
Your hardware might be having problems with the game (they're working on it, but the safe mode .bat is supposed to fix the issue for some people).
Logs are really annoying, i just picked up a few and now i can't use anything in my inventory or take anything from anywhere.
I guess that's 15 days and 221 Zombie kills down the drain

Push a trash can with you. Fill the trash can with logs then push it back home.

Holy shit you can do that?

As soon as they go into my inventory it happens!
Guys, when I start the new build I manage to get through the setup in sandbox (Apart from really slow selection) but when I get to the "This is how you died" bit the screen just goes black and stays that way. Does does anyone know how to fix it?
How do you barricade doors and windows in this version?
My safe house alarm tripped despite me being inside for 8 days. I also desperately need to fort up since I used all my ammo dealing with the hordes attracted by the alarm.

Have planks and nails in your main inventory (not in a bag) and equip a hammer in primary. Then right click on a window / door.
Survived 17 Days, 18 Hours with 227 Kills
Fuck you glitch logs
