Apparently it does. Damn, such a short story, but really heart ripping, especially that pillow ending.
They are extending it I believe, not sure if it will be in RC3 but I heard some stuff about them saying how Kate is more useful alive and stuff like that.

i called it like last thread.
even though this is a zombie simulator and not a dating game i do think the relationships you form with survivors to be as crucial as any other part of a zombie game. i mean imagine getting an npc to fall in love with your character. there'd be a huge boost initially in their thoughts about you and your partner would probably be the most trustworthy person. not to mention having sex boosting moodles and possibly giving other perks as well. the only drawback to such a relationship would be that your character would become depressed the more separated and distant you become. and if your partner dies you're sent into the worst depression moodle there is.
wow, a family group. basically you've survived for so long that you've had kids. they grow up to be the ultimate survivors because they'd never cross you because you're their father/mother.
but imagine that. it would be another thing you could have a realistic choice about. do you play not expanding upon relationships with other npcs and other npcs in your group if you have one and not get close to anyone to avoid getting hurt? or do you risk having close and intimate relationships with other people for awesome bonuses, but them dying could really fuck over your character, possibly in more ways than just emotionally.
i started watching season 3 of the walking dead a few hours ago. it made me think of something. if your character gets close to too many people and they die the harder it becomes for your character to get close to people, or it changes your character in some way. maybe they take loss a lot less harder over time. it "grizzles" them so to speak, but to get there you'd have to risk situations where your character could commit suicide or completely freak out.
i wouldn't bring it up really if it wasn't such a staple in character arcs of zombie or really any apocalypse scenario work of fiction. all of this stuff would be entirely based around the moodle system. i dunno if it would be hard to implement or not but if you get past the erratic way i explain things it is quite simple. a more complex dynamic with your character's relationships with NPCs that could add on some pretty cool elements. but in the end it's your choice, it's not forced on your in any way. you could still have a group and be a loner, just you'd need to find other ways to keep your group in line..
also it makes people's playing experiences way more varied. the game itself in sandbox mode could weave awesome stories for people to tell based upon their actions and interactions.
