Guess you just don't know how indie development works then.
Our last page spans an entire year, so it's going to sound like I'm a broken record, but the only game with a slower and less interesting development cycle than Project Zomboid is A New Zero.
Guess you just don't know how indie development works then.
20 years to finish a game?
20 years to finish a game?
When your project is ambitious and doesn't present a significant source of income to allow you to work on it full time, yeah pretty much. Unless I'm wrong about the PZ devs and they're just lazy, but I doubt it.
Every member of the Indie Stone is working on the game full time in order to provide you with content in the meantime.
And I don't think they just started working on it full time just now either. This thing has 9336 reviews on Steam, it must be selling well.
they have a small team and it's a very ambitious game - they've had to construct a lot of underlying systems to build everything on so that's the main reason it's taking so long
Some more build 33 stuff from this weeks mondoid
Yeah, sure but FOUR years?
they've also had to reconstruct some underlying systems
I mean, I'm not a game developer, or a software engineer, but it just seems a bit too much for it to have to take that long, for one project, with apparently from reading this thread a full team hired to work on this. I've been patiently waiting for a while now, but the progress they've made has been minimal from patch to patch, there's always big talk and promises of vehicles and DLC, but that's been circulating for 2 years now and honestly I think they need to get called out on it.
they've also had to reconstruct some underlying systems
The game has been mismanaged profusely and you know it.
I don't think there's an argument to be made that development has been going well when you consider just how long it's been in development. I bought this game 4 years ago, really enjoyed it for awhile and then set it down to wait for it to be more polished before picking it up again. It's at the point now where I've just given up. 4 years ago all I wanted was there to be NPCs in the game, and 4 years later they still aren't a part of the game. Yes there have been improvements and I do check in on the development from time to time, but there's just nothing big ever happening. Yes the devs are nice guys and they've had some setbacks, but in my mind being a nice guy just doesn't excuse charging money for an early access game and still not be in sight of a full release 4 years later. It's just disappointing more than anything. This game had a lot of promise, but doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Very reminiscent of the gongshow that was Cortex Command.
There's always big talk and promises of vehicles and DLC, but that's been circulating for 2 years now and honestly I think they need to get called out on it.
Except they have released multiple videos showcasing the progress done with the NPCs (which are going to meet the expectations) and vehicles with their weekly updates, so it's not just big talk. They are constantly working on them, but their main priority at the moment is finishing multiplayer. After that they are working full-time on NPCs and after that the vehicles. I bought and started following the game with the Steam release so I understand how frustrating the situation can be for the Desura era supporters, since the developers basically started from the scratch after The Incident.

What we're saying is that it's unacceptable how long it's taking to implement them. It's cool that you support them (I did for a long time), but again, it's been four years since development started. The theft incident occurred ~6 months into development. This game has been in alpha for half a decade. That's development hell no matter how you try and spin it.
Yes there have been improvements and I do check in on the development from time to time, but there's just nothing big ever happening.
I love how you just jump into the thread claiming that nothing big has came from this game in a while right after they release a full new mode that looks like it works really well in expanding content for the game through user made content. Yeah ok you've been waiting for NPCs for a while now but that doesn't mean they're not working on it or anything else big. There's evidence that they have been posted over the last few pages and you're just choosing to ignore it because the one feature you want doesn't happen to have been shown for a while.
Here's a post from March from a thread on their forums in which Lemmy talks about NPC's. I haven't been following development as closely for the past 2 months but as far as I know this is the most recent snippet of information regarding NPC development. It's difficult for a small team, even with community help, to work on ambitious features whilst still adding additional content to maintain enjoyment. I should be able to meet The Indie Stone (All of them, this time) at Eurogamer in September, so if you have any interesting questions you want me to ask them, feel free to let me know.

All I can say to that is either you can't remember what this game was like on release or you simply havent played it recently.
All I can say to that is either you can't remember what this game was like on release or you simply havent played it recently.
Inclined to agree. The way you play the game changes quite a lot with every update as more possibilities are opened up to the player. The only way someone wouldn't notice that is if they play the game the exact same way every time and don't try out new features. Hell, the game has a full traits and professions system that gets worked on and expanded almost every update now. Each to their own, I suppose.
PieClock, you have the most posts in this thread. Of course you are hyperaware of the changes since earliest access release. For the rest of us that check in every year or so, it's the same shit since forever ago. I've already acknowledged that my purchase was a misplaced early investment. Some are bound to happen if you go around buying into early access like many of us were doing in 2012.
How many coders do they have?
How many coders do they have?
Here's the team as listed on the website. The main two coders are Chris and Romain with the additional help from friends and the community.
All I can say to that is either you can't remember what this game was like on release or you simply havent played it recently.
I haven't played it in a long while, but there's a damn good reason for that. This game is in alpha. I don't feel like playing a game that's in alpha a lot because then when it actually does hit full release I'm already either already tired of the game or am going to be before long. Simply put, I was patiently waiting for the full release so I could enjoy the game to its fullest and be fresh to all the new features, and I've lost my patience because I've never seen an update with something exciting enough for me to warrant playing it before it's done. When it does finally hit full release I'm sure I'll enjoy it and it'll be worth the small investment I made years ago, but that's not the point. I don't want my money back or anything like that, I'm happy to support indie developers, I'm just disappointed that it seems like I and others have invested in something that's moving at a snails pace.

I haven't been keeping up with the game for like the last 6 months and even then I wouldn't have kept close tabs on it. The only reason I checked back in is because of the creative mode being added.. I'm far from hyper aware or even aware. I played the game for the first time since multiplayer today however and I can say without a doubt that the game has changed a lot from its release and my awareness of the game does not change that fact one bit. But you can check - the majority of my posts here were like 2 years ago here's a link to prove that: http://facepunch.com/search.php?searchid=6509603 So please before you go on a personal strike like that check into your information a bit more thanks. [editline]19th August 2015[/editline]
I haven't played it in a long while, but there's a damn good reason for that.
Ok then why are you in this thread complaining about how it hasn't changed if you haven't even played any version recently. I'm not bothered with anything else you have to say and you probably have valid points there. I just don't like seeing people spew uninformed information and complaints.
I'm not the one that's complaining about it not changing Pie, my complaints have only been about the incredibly long development time. The most I said is "nothing big has happened" which is true to me, but it's just personal opinion. I really don't care about multi-player or creative mode; they are nice additions but never what had me excited for the finished product when I first read about and invested in the game.
The game has been mismanaged profusely and you know it.
I wasn't arguing, I was relaying information to help your point actually. ...Gotta love FP
I bought this game early on because I thought it looked really awesome and I wanted to see what it'd grow into. It's been bloody years and it kinda feels exactly the same as it did back then. It's not bad, but it's not really what I'd expect after god knows how many years it's been in development. Having said that, I still get thrown into a panic attack whenever I open a door and there's a zombie behind it and it makes that awful '!' noise - so I tend to avoid playing it.
