Mount&Blade series is on the Flash sale for the next 6 hours and 40 minutes. Best deal is the whole collection: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/14259/
If you were on the fence of buying one of the other parts in the series, like getting Mount&Blade classic to try out older mods, now's your chance.
For people who have played Brytenwalda, do do you have any comments on the Frisian troop tree? Is it any that different from the Saxons?

There should be troop trees available for viewing within the mod itself, but to answer your question IIRC the troop trees between the Saxons, Frisians, and Angles are very similar.

Frisians don't have a visible troop tree. But anyone who wants to know by the way I looked over most of the Angle and Saxon units and determined that the main differences are that the Saxons employ more two handed axes instead of swords with their heavy units. I think they will also have a higher probability of wearing mail as well.
That's true. I forgot about the item differences. When I used to play Brytenwalda my army would consist mainly of Saxon infantry and Briton archers.
Time for a bump.

They put up a new blog post that talks about the editor and shows some screenshots.
Look at the filenames for the images. One says Khuzait village and the other Battanian town.
Skybox still looks bad, but the rest is pretty good
Actually fucking grass instead of just textures.
Woah.
From watching videos on Youtube, I'd really like to get into that Vikingr mod, sadly no one's on the offical teamspeak and event information is oddly scattered across their forums. If anyone has a presencence in the Vikingr community and wants to help me get into it, I'd be very thankful.
vikingr really needs a singleplayer component, mp only is a waste.
also, hot damn 1860s old america is a great mod.
What makes Vikingr mp a waste? The videos look awesome, and I'd love to do a shieldwall battle like in the videos.
[THUMB]http://www.taleworlds.com/Images/Blog/twdd_03_inventory.jpg[/THUMB]
New devblog for those who haven't checked the site lately. New armor slot: shoulders. (I'd imagine there are shoulderplates too along with the mail and cloth shoulder protection)
They talk about new UI, more diverse (lord personality based) strategic AI, multiple armies (instead of every lord grouping together under a marshall to go on a campaign), ambushing and horse armor.
www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/4
edit: also they're speculating more village/town interactions (or "stuff to do") to create more of a "living" feel.

i said it being mp only is a waste, everything about the mod is basically perfect but it needs a singleplayer component. also only a small amount of people play the mod and at random times, you can't just hop on a server at any given minute.
I want bannerlord so bad... Any news about when it are coming out?
never, it's just hype. but probably sometime late Q4 2014/Q1-2 2015
It's good that you can put armour on your horse.
Though it'd be better if they expanded on it a little. maybe attach an arrow/javalin pouch onto your horse.
I think Brytenwalda mostly gives me my dark-age singleplayer fix, but singleplayer Vikingr would be rather nice.
Forgot I was so hype for Bannerlord, cannot wait to pre-order so I can once again forget about it and be pleasently surprised once I am agian reminded.
Oh and there yah go wallpaper for peeps stolen from background of website.

So what is some good full-conversion mods for Warband? I tried a LOTR one that looked great but I can't remember the name of that one.
Gekokujo, Napoleonic wars, Europe 1257AD
A Clash Of Kings is still my favorite mod, probably because I'm a huge ASOIAF fan. Also can't wait for bannerlord.

you talking about blood in the west? the one where you start out with the entire fellowship?
i played that mod once, fucking hilarious.
first off, none of the crew look like their film versions (as the entire mod is based on the film). second, you are ridiculously OP with 9 heroes at your side. and the best part of it all (story time):
- plowing through middle earth, kicking ass and taking names
- do some work for sauron for the most part, she's a pretty chill leader (the mod is a very poor english translation, hence why sauron is female)
- keep on killing
- one day frodo decides to leave because he's upset with legolas because she's (yes, she) an elf and straight up quits my fucking group
after that i had to stop playing, i was dying laughing from frodo's departure

I think I'm gunna try that out. I like the books, but I do hope you can still just rebel and become your own king because fuck following someone else's orders.
^it is a really good mod, even though i know fuck all about got
I'm downloading the Floris modpack to fiddle around with first, but good god, its taken four hours to download and its not even done yet.
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
Christ I just wanna play with a mod why are you downloading so slow I have good internet you bastard
[editline]7th January 2014[/editline]
Fuck it I'm using the torrent version.
And its going hundreds of k/b faster. Amazing.
Biggest problem i have with Clash of kings is that it seems to want to follow the tv series the book. You read the book and think that, other than the 0.01% of things that are magical, everything is supposed to be very realistic. Not every lanister man is going to wear that same full plated crimson armour with the doubledoor-like visor. That shit's too expensive for everyone. In the books every westro soldier wore similar, individualy crafted, wealth dependent stuff but with different surcoats over it.

All this shit'd be realy easy to fix. I got the mod a few days ago. I started out as a gondorian and thought it would be best to start the game in gondor; as opposed to starting the game in gundabad. Looking odly at my starting gear: full metal plate that weighed less than 2kg; The first thing i did was switch my gear over with the fellowship. I ended up with the one ring, aragon's uber body armour and gandalf's sword and wizard staff. I was happy shooting low flying fell beasts until a huge party came from nowhere and defeated me. I gave up there.
I died and forgot to save. The second time i gave up because choosing Isengard made me a mordor orc. The third time i picked mordor orc and ended up An uruk-hai with a scouting party. As an uruk i was welcomed into the cities of gondor with open arms. I Explored the area near fangorn and, after killing some Ents wondering miles from their home in half dozens and upgrading my orcs into Harradrim and duns , I went into rohan and recruited merry and then i recruited gandalf who was relaxing in an isenguard controled pub. From there on i was a horsed uruk wearing gandalf's gear.
It'd seriously be easy to fix shit like this though. Why the fuck would you release the mod so prematurely? To get it out first because other people might steal it before you do?
and with a story like that, i implore everyone to try the mod.

I was always under the impression that the armor was paid for by Lannister Lords (or at least House Lannister Itself, not sure about the bannermen) as in the books all Lannister troops were described as having a golden lion crest on their helms. The Lannisters are insanely rich, holding the biggest gold mines in Westeros, so it isn't unfeasible.
Though the TV show's armor design for House Lannister looked fucking stupid.

The helmet could be redone, as that visor looks flimsy and silly.
Although I love the crimson & gold color combination on the armor.
Maybe the lanisters have golden crested helms. Though maybe that part was just about the lanisters royal guard. (not sure, might have seen it somewhere else) Though i definetly remember arya describing some variety in lanister armour (when she's trying to stab them). One wore brigadine. Most wore mail. Could mean that they all wear brigadine and mail.. but i have my doubts.
Another thing: Most of the armies ARE the armies of the bannerlords. I think there was something about stark having 7000 or 8000 men. The next biggest house had like 8000 men. Then there were like six or seven other houses with a few thousand and a load with some hundreds. Either way 'Stark' stark men wearing white and grey were much less than half the 20,000 or so northmen. I'd assume that lanister men from casterly rock don't make up a large portion of the westermen army. Most of them are probably from lanisport or one of the hundred other vassals. Those guys aren't going to wear nice lions or mass produced ornate armour.
I think they make a big point in the books by identifying soldiers by their colours and symbols rather than the gear they wear. It's supposed to be a mishmash of Rich knights and peasant levies. To an extent the tv show also tries to make the wildlings and crows look uniform... even when they shouldn't (they should all do their best to look warm and the crows should only wear black... but otherwise everyone wears everything).
