The enhanced version is a more optimized version of Mount&Blade It's description says it's
the famous silently fixed (and secretly released) version from TaleWorlds. They're currently distributing an older game (although with the same version number)

DRM Free. (Doesn't includes Themida Protection)
Includes several enhancements respect the older one.
Extra languages included (Spanish, Turk,...).
Optimized Game Executable (Half of the original size).
Removed 32 Troop Type limit.
Better Scenes. Repaired some AI meshes.
TLD was designed around this particular build of M&B so I'd imagine using another version like the one on Steam for TLD is just asking for trouble.
i don't have any issues with the steam version
a random ctd here and there but that barely happens.

Why can't they put this on steam?

I have no clue. Might want to try asking on the TaleWorlds forums, you might get lucky and get an answer.
I can't wait for Bannerlord. It's got sieges with ladders AND siege towers
I can't wait for Bannerlord. It's got sieges with ladders AND siege towers
What about other siege engines? I'd really like to see the defense armed with ballistae and the offense armed with trebs and catapults.
Actually, I take this back. I doubt Bannerlord will be set late enough to allow trebuchets. So far I think we know the factions that will be in: The Empire, the Vaegirs, and the Desert people. It's likely it takes place towards the end of the empire's reign, probably somewhere around the mid to late 400's. We'll likely see the predecessors of the Swadians trying to invade Calrad proper.

I was certain the game was historical, I only had played multiplayer and thought the Khergits were hte mongols, Nords were vikings and been wondering who the fuck Vaegirs and Rhodoks were for a while now.

Even the most common rhodok weapon is a weapon of low countries origin.

I remember reading up on that weapon, basically a club and a spike/spear combined.
But that's probably why I got confused, you have got historical weapons, with factions using actual historical words like Khanates and Sultanates so I just assumed these were some vague kingdoms that were warring with one another in central-eastern-southern Europe. Sarranid I thought would have been another word for Saracen.
On that note it's a shame that the spiked staff in warband wasn't a better weapon, it definitely ranks in the shit tier
From the sounds of it it was actually a pretty god-tier weapon, despite it's extreme simplicity

[editline]2nd February 2014[/editline]
In other news; Iron Europe release date is Feb 14.
We've set a specific release date. However, it's not exactly all good news. Unfortunately, the mod will release outside of our previously set time frame on February 14th, 2014. We, the team, apologize deeply for this and hope people will show understanding. After evaluating our resources, we've determined that this is the best course of action to ensure a successful mod release.
Before I move on, I'd like to remind everybody that this is a non-profit mod that is being developed by people dedicating their free time to create something for the community to enjoy. It is our call when to release the mod.
Now, the question is 'why?'. The answer is that we're halfway through implementation of some features and we're lacking maps. These extra days will allow us to finish some big features that we've been working on, the most important of which are the heavy machine-guns. We do not want to cut out any work-in-progress features out of release. We have considered releasing the mod in it's current state and patching it shortly, however, we decided against it. The first release is of utmost importance to a Warband multiplayer mod's survival which is why we want ours to be as complete as possible. The IE team consists of many veteran modders who've modded for years and have participated in the creation of multiple mods and we are certain that this is the best course of action for a successful mod release. As well, these extra days give us the opportunity to work on some fancy surprise features.
Originally, there was going to be a large update with lots of new stuff along with this announcement, but due to closed beta leaks, it'll be a smaller one as I've spent my entire day trying to suppress the leak. A warning for all of you, if you somehow obtain the Iron Europe closed beta through a leak and are caught playing on the server, you will be banned from all IE servers and it will last a certain, very long, period time even after release. Plus, if you're smart, you'll tell a team member how you obtained the mod. If you are the one who leaked the mod, and have contributed to its spread, then you will receive a permanent ban from all IE servers.
Anyways, here's a bit of stuff for you guys to enjoy, showing some gameplay, gramophones, and heavy machineguns. All a work in progress of course. Sorry for the quality, I messed up the export and don't have the time to fix it due to the above reason.
The Veiled Stars (A LOTR mod for Warband thats supposed to be better than The Last Days) is coming out 5th of Feb; http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,248986.0.html
I've been playing this mod for the original Mount & Blade called 1866: Western Mod, it's amazing. I'm going through every town collecting bounties, robbing stagecoaches and dueling wanted people.
[t]http://puu.sh/6HMYL.jpg[/t]
There's also a Western mod for Warband that uses some of the same assets (the creator got permission to port the mod to Warband), but it's less polished and has much less content.
It's called 1860s Old America
[sp]it has Django in it tho http://puu.sh/6HNfs.jpg[/sp]
1860 feels terrible compared to 1866

They're clearly based off of real cultures but they're not historical in the same way WFAS is: i.e. literally just a fictionalization of real places and factions.

Apparently TaleWorlds has left Paradox Interactive to work on Bannerlord independently
I'm not sure how to feel about it, having them be independent certainly does give them a lot more control over the game and could even make the game better. I always did like Paradox though, there one of the better publishers out there in my opinion.
One thing is for sure though, free early access to Magicka: Wizard Wars as a parting gift from Paradox (normally costs 13 dollars to buy into) to anyone that owns M&B is a REALLY generous notion.

Im annoyed the spear is so useless in the game, it has only one attack direction which means everyone can easily block it by blocking downwards, and while it does make sense it shouldn't be usable in very close combat when the guy is directly in front of you, I wish they did the same for every two handed weapon which always manages to get used in the most tightest and confined spaces with ease, clipping through objects and still doing full damage when its hitting with the haft of the axe or handle of a two handed sword.

the default spear is actually an ok weapon in multiplayer, it has all 4 attack directions without a shield. fast and has long reach but low-mediocre damage. war spear has a bit more reach and damage but lower speed.
also don't use a shield with a spear unless you are in a big melee or something with a threat of arrows and possiblity of poking enemies without them being able to block.
I really hope they do something about the spear mechanics in the new game, would be great if they added proper spearwalls
I wanna see the game evolve from warbands to armies. It doesn't quite need to be chinese warring-states level of armies (several hundred thousand a side), but it'd be good If there more organized and larger forces in the game. It'd be good to have captains (including the player) who can accurately order nearby troops.
Spear walls'd be nice... Spear charges would be nicer though. Synchronized missile firing would be amazing.

The war spear is pretty incredible if you're halfway decent at melee. The polestun is a huge bonus. But we all know that the pike is the ultimate support weapon. Use that in any big melee and as long as you're accurate enough not to murder teammates you're guaranteed to rack up so many kills.
I have a whale of a time with the pike. Murders cavalry with ease. Poke at enemies from a different angle as your teammates or when the enemy drops their shield with virtually no risk. Even one on one, I love backing up away from an approaching enemy and then suddenly stepping forward with a thrust. Most of the time with good aim, they won't block it because they are surprised by the range and you can one-shot them. Also, 4 attack directions is a crutch for scrubs. :v:

Ah, you see, I have always used it with shield, thats my problem, although I still think it should have adjustable reach so I can use it in close quarters, otherwise I'm forced to change weapon which opens me up long enough to be hit.
I'm just crap at Melee which is why I use shields. I find I'm never really able to exploit a block or parry with an attack, it simply boils down to a shield smash and waiting to see who's shield breaks first, and when I'm fighting someone who has a two hander, how long can I last using my shield for defence before it breaks and hoping to land an attack.
Spear walls'd be nice... Spear charges would be nicer though. Synchronized missile firing would be amazing.
Spear bracing and volley firing are both features that have been seen in mods, so it's not to unreasonable to hope that Bannerlord will include them off the bat.
