Something to do with how 8/10 video updates on Bannerlord are just devs sat in a chair talking about it

downloaded the gekokujo mod along with a heap of submods for it and right off the bat the starting bandit fight is bugged out and the enemy ai is passive.
Got a copy of Mount and Blade Warband that I never got around to playing. Is it worth getting in now, or waiting for the new game?
Since the answer is probably yes, are there any essential mods?

If you really want to start out with mods, try Native+, which is basicly a enhancement of the original game so you can experience the vanilla game.
Any other of the big mods are total overhauls and usually more punishing/ aimed at experienced players but totally possible to start out with. I usually recommend starting with vanilla so you get a good feel of the base game, before modding it to your tastes

My advice: Follow Mrfantasticools suggestion and play Native+, and play some Native multiplayer (which I find myself going back to time and again, after my 370+ hours of game time). After that, go for any of the Total Overhaul SP mods, and either play Full Invasion 2 (if co-op is your thing) or try Napoleonic wars DLC for an alternative version of PvP.
Napoleonic wars is fantastic for improving your combat skills, ive gotten so good at swordfighting its not even funny.
Those bayonet 1 hit kills are scary, if you don't get good you get immediately rekt

Are we playing the same NW? :v:
The NW I know of hasn't had any sort of good melee since it's release, after which Flying Squirrel fucked it up to the detriment of the community (for a few patches the cavalry saber's reach was much longer than it's hitbox, and by that time the bayonet had been nerfed). I mean jeez, I love NW and all but all I see in its melee now a days are a billion bounces and glances and stabs that don't kill.

NW's melee used to have a lot of weight behind it, but that got all fucked.

I also find that NW is a good way of practicing your combat skills, as in comparison to Native you have very little armor (Cloth Line Uniforms < Plate Armor) and therefore all weapons are deadly. This can be a bit frustrating at times, but still good for learing the flow of a battle, of where to be and where not to.
One thing that struck me as a bit less satisfying was the unforgiving lag. I recently upgraded to a brand new desktop from an older laptop, which was not really superb. Despite MaB not having the highest of graphical requirements, all the smoke and particle effects really took a heavy toll on that machine, and i usually experienced a lot of lag. This often led me to be instantly killed in combat, as the opponent struck before the game registered my block.

Yeah im running on a eh-tier lappy so certain maps can get choppy. Best server for practice imho is Tropical Paradise, deathmatch on island maps, 64 player cap, and plenty of naval and land combat going on. Lets you train every possible skill
its so easy to get pissed at the combat, but the fact it's unforgiving makes it so much more satisfying when you style on kids
One complaint I have about M&B is it's just not very well optimized. Other than that, it's one of the best games I ever played.

Oh God, I really do not like that map. Not anymore, anyways. I kinda overplayed it for a while, and finally found myself getting really pissed when playing. I just think that of all gamemodes in NW, deathmatch (FFA) is the worst. Every player in the game pretty much spawns firing their gun, getting a quick kill and then just wildly stabs everyone in their vicinity, getting themselves killed in no time. It just makes for a less enjoyable experience, in comparison to more strategic modes, like Battle or Commander Battle. What do you people prefer?

Since when are the Swadians able to beat anyone?
Since when are the Swadians able to beat anyone?
Since Great Winged Helmets. Guaranteed to make you invincible (in SP).
In MP...not so much. They are great defenders but less able as attackers. This depends a lot on the opposing faction, of course.
I played a few games last night as Swadia, defending against The Sassanids, on a few different maps. What I found was that Swadia is at its best when dug in, with plenty of shielded swordsmen to throw at the enemy and being able to use their crossbowmen effectively. However we got brutally overrun when we found ourselves open to attack by their archers and with axemen breaking our shields.
I still think of Swadia as a well balanced faction, with perhaps a bit of a damage advantage with an arsenal of greatswords. This is still prone to countering with polearms and range weapons, since mad Two-handers usually skip shields completely.

Ok, greatswords are a bit OP. Quite a bit.

the words greatswords and balanced don't belong in the same sentence unless it also includes "aren't".
Do you guys play Napoleonic Wars with any regiment? if so, could you suggest a good one?

Well there's the one I've been with for 4 years, but A) we're NA, and B) we don't take things too seriously.

Im in one, 17th regiment of foot. We do events every sunday and every second saturday. Its based in Europe and most of us live in UK, Central Europe and North Europe. If you want some info for our teamspeak just ask. We also do some other games like Rocket Leauge, L4D2, CIV 5 etc...

I wish my game didn't hate me and disconnect every five minutes.

If you're interested in joining a regiment, make sure that you've got the time for it. Because being in events is tons of fun, but I found that I rarely had time to attend them, resulting in me leaving every regiment after just a few weeks. The Regiments I've "served" in are the 28th-, 41st- and 77th Regiment of Foot, as well as some time with The Knights of Lorraine in the Persistent Worlds RP mod.
Good luck with your soldiering!
