Armour, luck and a sense of not dyingness.

Some general advice for all newcomers. If you ever need to retreat (which should always be kept as a viable option), keep the following pictures as advice:

I have a really dirty habit of savescumming. I need to get used to the fact that retreat and leaving men behind is viable, if not a pain in the ass.

played like a damn fiddle
I didn't even know that you COULD break Lords out of captivity(I'm probably too occupied throwing them behind bars myself to notice). How does that work? I assume that there is some kind of mod involved?

Oh, I see. Strange, I have never actually got that quest, nor had any Lord ask me to free another Lord. But since it gives you relation points I guess that opens up for some double crossing trickster play a lá Game of Thrones (make a Lord go to war, lose a battle, end up in captivity, free Lord for cash and relation points)

If you ever get the quest, you get 2000 denars, 4000 XP and lots of relation with the captured lord.

If you know a lord's in captivity you should ask his family members, they'll probably want him freed.
I don't think I've ever succeeded in breaking a lord out though. I always get my shit kicked in because I rely on my army completely.

Just take over the town if that's the case :v:
I started playing Perisno a bit. Got my everloving shit kicked in by all the hostile parties all over the map. Seriously there are so many and they are very highly leveled if you're starting out. But I'm doing OK now.
It's really easy to get a lord out, you just have to tell a village elder in a nearby village to the town/castle you are breaking the lord out of to make a bonfire in their village. If you do this all the guards in the town but the prison guard will be gone, then you just kill the prison guard and talk to the lord in the prison, and then you have to kill a couple of guards when leaving the town. You don't lose any honour/relationship points for doing this.
That's... interesting. I had no idea you could do that.

Holy Butter! I've been missing out! :jawdrop:

I've had this happen before:

Be aware though, majority of not almost all of the "break lord out" quests are bugged to hell. Becareful when doing these quests as failing them is really bad.
Guys if you haven't, you should check out Viking Conquest. After a rocky release it's been p much fixed now and it's honestly one of the best M&B mods/expansions I've played. It's really solid.

It got a great unfucker patch.
A shame there's not a single good western mod for warband
Nova Aetas is crazy.
There's the pope and the Aztecs.
WHAT
Do Warband mods work in Viking Conquest? I like viking conquest but I'd love to add more units and items and whatnot.

Pretty sure it's not possible.
Pretty sure it's not possible.
Dang. Like I said it's a fun expansion but something I loved about other mods was all the different mercenaries and shit you could find around. I'd go out of my way to make an army of people with guns when they were really rare to find.
I love the really puffy looks of the Goidelic and Pictish tunics.
Also speaking of relationsships with vassals, its so stupid that most lords get mad if you give another lord a fief, but you gotta give them fiefs otherwise you will lose relationship points with them over time and they wont be able to afford to have that many units.

ghulassen hates you a lot i see
half my vassals hate me a lot, then they defect and get rekt by me.

I think hosting feasts are the single best way to improve relations with other lords
how do you do that?
Buy all of the food in Calradia then talk to your wife and have her tell you its still not enough.
how do you do that?
you spend millions of hours searching for various foods and store them in your castle/city then talk to your wife and tell them that we should host a feast after which she tells you to go search even more food cause what you have is barely adequate
obviously the AI can just pull tons of cheese, rum, vinegar, etc out of their ass and spam feasts, which is exactly what's going on with swadia in the average game. They usually are the first to loose fiefs, which strains relations between haralus and his vassals, which causes him to host his infamous feasts all the time.
it's generally a pretty shit and broken system and IIRC if you wanna play king VQ fixed it up a bit.
not like you'd get the necessary food anyway
Harlaus is incompetent.
Isolla is better.
