Finally found some time to sort of finish the main build, I thought all of my fluids were leaking but it turns out I'm terrible at finding the magic filling up spot and keeping it there. Firing it up the first time is satisfying, started up with no issues and sounded okay. I hadn't adjusted the valve screws because I had no idea what I'm doing there (tips welcome). I revved it a bit on the carb and when I sustained it for a maybe 2-3 seconds the waterpump pulley and belt fell off, I'm not sure why I'm hoping it's just because I hadn't tightened a nut somewhere. Anyway stuck it back together, started it up again and it sounded terrible, high pitched whine. Turned out while I was tightening the alternator screw, the alternator was loosening I then spent about 15 minutes getting at an angle where it would only do one at a time. A toggle for zoom and reach would be really useful I was a bit bummed that I'd only bought one bottle of brake fluid so I couldn't go for a take it for a spin
Before running out of gas, my car sounded like a dying ambulance (High pitch squeal that keeps repeating), but otherwise it moved under its own power after some convincing with the clutch. There's definitely a leak somewhere with the brakes and clutch, though I've double checked to make sure all of the nuts are tight. I'll probably restart because it's in rough shape after it flipped over in the garage and I dragged it out with the tractor before learning about the tow hook...
Does anyone know when you're supposed to put the half-shafts on? I left them to last and can't seem to get them on now - even tried removing the wheel, disc brake and steering rod and no dice :( [editline]perkele[/editline]
Turned out while I was tightening the alternator screw, the alternator was loosening I then spent about 15 minutes getting at an angle where it would only do one at a time.
I just went through this as well, it's the worst. Also, after the brake/clutch fluid, the coolant and the oil all being 'contact' type filling I assumed petrol would be too - think I got maybe two drops of it into the filler cap before the jerry can ran dry.
AFAIK the disc brakes should be on but unscrewed.
this as well, thought I was going crazy looking over my notepad with that I wrote while working this shit out
lost a fender on the way to inspection. at least it shouldn't be too hard to find a bright orange piece of sheet metal
[t]http://i.imgur.com/pQgwWJ3.jpg[/t] ok game
attempt 5 to get to town: made it to paved road, flipped van attempting to overtake semi truck, hit and run by techno-blaring green car while trying to walk the rest of the way to town
So I'm loving this game and it's insane attention to detail. Problem is I don't know anything about cars. I've been plugging some pieces together alright, but it's pretty difficult. Any resources to help me out?

Alright, so the dying ambulance sound is gone after I tightened the alternator belt by using the screwdriver on the alternator bolt. I've also fixed part of my issue with the car not moving after a short distance by tightening the bolts on the drive gear. However, I'm still losing fluid from my clutch and brake master cylinders despite all the nuts being tight on the manifold, cylinders, hose to the gearbox, left and right brakes. Am I missing one somewhere?
after several attempts i have made it into town, celebrated by buying out their supply of beer, sausage, pizza, and downing two shots of vodka and two beers. crashed into a rock and died on the way home

I'm at work and can't check I'm sure about the breaks but not on clutch. [editline]28th October 2016[/editline] When I get home going to weigh up starting again or grinding money and fixing my burnt out engine. Looking at forums its going to be around 5k at the repair shop. On a side note does body damage effect fitting the hood. Got it on once but it popped off before I found the bolts. now I can't get it to connect again. [editline]28th October 2016[/editline] Oh and if I decide to tow the car what's the best vehicle to use. Tractor will take forever.
The more I read this thread, the more scared I am of actually getting the game :v: I guess it would apparently give me some mechanic experience, though
i5 2500k, gtx760, 16 gb of ddr3 ram. Windows 7. Running on the second graphics preset (no vsync), car mirrors disabled. 1600x900 windowed (fullscreen makes no difference)
The only major difference between your system and mine is that you have a significantly better video card than me and a much older CPU than me. So, maybe it's being bottlenecked on the CPU? Try turning some things down that might affect that, like the draw distance. I'm not really sure, though. The game is in Early Access, too, so there could be some kind of weird inconsistent bug that tanks performance.
Alright so im lost here, my car starts and can move but I get about a second of movement before the car backfires and the engine dies. Anyone know what this could mean?
Got my car moving under its own power and ran out of petrol before I could start fine-tuning to try fix backfiring and having zero power (pretty much had to slam the accelerator down for a whole second before coming off the clutch to pull away without stalling). Went off to the store in the van to fill the jerry can and on the way back I came off the road because my dog wanted to say hi. Respawned in town and I'm now stuck there 'cause I haven't got enough money left to drink my way home. welp
Here's a stupid question, can you align the car yourself? I don't immediately see any way to adjust the tie rods. Do I center the steering wheel the Volkswagen Rabbit way and get the car going in a straight line, stop, remove and install the steering wheel?
There's bolts on the tie rods can't remember what size though. I don't know what the tie rods are called ingame

There are the tie rod end "bolts", but those only hold the rod end onto the steering knuckle. usually there is a locknut between the inner and outer tie rod on each side which you loosen and turn the inner rod to adjust, but I'm not seeing one. I'll look again.
my car might be unable to go in straight lines, the gear drive might constantly jump out of the bonnet when I overrev, the brakes aren't working, but it's still my car that i made using only my hands and imagination, and i wouldn't have it any other way [t]http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/221067529760955020/0E553B58CDEF52A9C2B573BA5FE34F329A8C3516/[/t] i also need to PISS
I can't figure out how to get the steering to work, are there nuts/bolts that need to be screwed or something?
Help please my van will not move. I put beer in the car and undid the hand break. It just revs and doesnt move at all.
Help please my van will not move. I put beer in the car and undid the hand break. It just revs and doesnt move at all.
Change the gears. Also Car is working, wheels are aligned and I have no idea why the brakes dont work but fuck it we finland now.
Help please my van will not move. I put beer in the car and undid the hand break. It just revs and doesnt move at all.
Press 'g' to shift up from neutral. Press 'b' to shift down. van gears are Reverse-neutral-1-2-etc. Also if anyone is having trouble getting to the shop, drive the van straight down the hill and aim directly at the giant tower thing across the lake, don't stop, never let go of the gas, stay in gear 1 and you'll glide across the bottom of the lake to the other side, then hold the wheel to the left or right when you hit the hill and if you're a good driver you'll slide up and then sideways onto land again, caution this is where it gets heavy, you'll have no traction really for a bit, this is what we're exploiting to slide you sideways onto the ground and it can claim you back into the water if you're not careful. From here, go left around the lake and you'll reach town/boat dock. handy note, the island is a tricky landmark that prevents you from just going straight to town, but it can be used as a handy landmark to know which side of the town you're on. I haven't mastered going back via the lake but it's doable. If you don't hit the shore hills at a very close to perpendicular you'll slide too early and end up going back down into the lake. Not all is lost and you can get back out, but chances are you'll end up in a sub optimal slide and get stuck on the shore. Pushing the van out of the water is tricky, it's best to cut losses and get it as close to the shore as you can before returning later to tow it. If it's too deep, you won't be able to get to it to grab the tow rope as the lake auto pulls you back to the top for "swim mode" at a set depth. Before that depth you can crouch down and walk under water. Don't be afraid to experiment with it and it takes a bit of practice to get the van 100% back on land, but this method with the tower is the most consistent I have figured out so far. Bonus function being that you can do this and then use a combination of van, boat and tractor to move goods faster than Payday bag throw style slowness.
I tried to honk my horn my pressing h but i punched my window. why
That's nothing, I took my flashlight inside so I could see the food in the fridge and while eating a sausage I somehow lost the flashlight in the fridge.
I drank my whole case of beer and crashed 2 feet outside of town. :( [t]http://i.imgur.com/K9Kd8ft.png[/t]
