Holy shit. Splatoon is awesome, and despite the controversy surrounding them, I fucking love the rollers.
Smushing people is just fun
I always get killed by rollers that just got to where I was 2 seconds ago because my government is a piece of shit and won't install better internet infrastructure

Also Project Treasure looks awesome from that direct. Gotta keep my eye out for that one
Why isn't there a Splatoon thread yet?
It's so much fun, but I guess I have to work for a living, so I can't play as much as I want to.
So yeah, a new Mario & Sonic Olympic game was announced.
And that artwork is actually pretty cool.

Honestly, the Mario & Sonic Olympic Games stuff isn't... terrible?
It's not as terrible as you'd think it'd be, I guess. Music is absolutely amazing.

I'm surprised that even one of the deadly six is playable.
Makes me think we might see them again.

This is pretty nice! I was considering making one for awhile but wii-u game threads tend to die pretty fast so wasn't sure if it was worth it or not personally.
I'd held off on getting Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze for a long while due to the whole starving college student routine, but I have some cash now to blow on it.

Can finally add it to all my country games lol
I came across this remix and it kinda inspired me to find my old Donkey Kong stuff from when I was younger. I really liked the series back in the day.
Ya know, after hearing everyone claim "Splatoon is the first new nintendo ip in 15 years", I'm seriously doubting that. What makes a game "a new nintendo ip"? Does it have to be made by one of nintendo's internal teams? What counts as one of those teams? Because I feel that, by all accounts, Xenoblade Chronicles is just as much of a new IP as anything else. Chibi Robo, Trauma Center, Elite Beat Agents, fossil fighters, pushmo? Do these not count in consideration for a new ip? Because honestly I'm confused on what clarifies that.

I think it means that Nintendo themselves, the company, makes a new game, without any other non-Nintendo Developer.

Yeah, there is no way that "first new nintendo ip in 15 years" is true, there have been plenty, it's just that not all of them take off spectacularly well.
For the 21st century, the new Nintendo-made series as are as follows. Series with only one game are bolded:
(2000)
-Card Hero
-Perfect Dark (no longer owned, but has appeared in the Super Smash Bros series)
-Sin & Punishment
(2001)
-Animal Crossing
-Koto Battle
-Kururin
-Magical Vacation
-Pikmin
-Golden Sun
(2002)
-Cubivore
-Eternal Darkness
-Legendary Starfy
-Tomato Adventure
(2003)
-Giftpia
-WarioWare, Inc (I feel this warrants listing here. Even if it is part of the Mario universe, the concept is quite new and could have easily been a separate universe)
(2004)
-Daigasso! Band Brothers
(2005)
-Big Brain Academy
-Brain Age
-Chibi-Robo!
-Drill Dozer
-Geist
-Nintendogs
-Osu! Tatake! Ouendan!/Elite Beat Agents
(2006)
-Chousoujuu Mecha MG
-Wii Series
(2007)
-Rhythm Heaven
(2008)
-Captain Rainbow
-Disaster
-Fossil Fighter
-Soma Bringer
-Style Savvy
(2010)
-Aura-Aura Climber
-Xenoblade Chronicles
-Zangeki no Reginleiv
(2011)
-Pandora's Tower
-Pushmo
-Steel Diver
-The Last Story
(2012)
-Dillon's Rolling Western
-HarmoKnight
-Nintendo Land
(2013)
-NES Remix
-Nintendoji
-Rusty's Real Deal Baseball
-The Wonderful 101
(2015)
-Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
-Splatoon
Even if you only count 1st party new IPs, Xenoblade Chronicles and several others still apply as fairly recent, especially since Code Name S.T.E.A.M. is a 1st party IP released this year.
Basically, though, they've released at least one new IP in every year since 2000 (earlier than that, actually) except for 2009 and 2014.

That's the thing, what makes it a non-Nintendo developer? Monolift Soft started out as a third party namco developer, but Nintendo bought them and are now considered first party. Does this not make it a developer of Nintendo themselves? Or does it have to be labelled "Nintendo EAD"? Because it's the latter I suppose I can concede the idea that they haven't made a new IP in years.

We consider Pokemon first party, right? So obviously Nintendo EAD isn't the only defining factor.
Reality is Pokemons 2nd Party as is Xenoblade, it's just considered first because it's only on Nintendo.
I have never heard the term "second party" ever. Usually we just divide into first and third, first being owned properties under owned publishers and third being independent properties under publishers.

to be fair NES remix shouldn't in in that list
it's just 80's/90's games released as a pack and that's it

Actually, that's not what NES Remix is. It mixes elements from various NES and Game Boy games into short minigames that you have to beat. The only full game playable is the original Super Mario Bros in Ultimate NES Remix, and even then, it's overclocked on purpose as a challenge.

oh, so it's just a 'new' ip in the sense that it's a 'classic style games' challenge thingy

I suppose you could say that. It's akin to how WarioWare references past games but NES Remix gives you about 10 seconds to a minute for endurance challenges instead of 5-second quick response challenges like WarioWare. Either way, most of the IPs I listed are unique and many have been successful.

Xenoblade actually is 1st party, though. MonolithSoft is 100% owned by Nintendo. The same is true with Fire Emblem and Famicom Wars with Intelligent Systems, which is also 100% owned by Nintendo.
Pokemon as a series is indeed a 2nd party, however. The series is co-owned by Nintendo, Creatures Inc and Gamefreak, although the Pokemon themselves are 100% the property of Nintendo.
I have never heard the term "second party" ever. Usually we just divide into first and third, first being owned properties under owned publishers and third being independent properties under publishers.
In terms of console manufacturer relations, a 1st Party is completely owned by the company that made the console the game is for, a 3rd party is not owned even in part by the console maker, even if they published the game. 2nd parties fall in between. The console manufacturer has a partial investment in the series or development team, which means they can have a hand in resulting in exclusivity, but do not have full control over the co-owners of the series.
Huh, didn't think they straight up bought Monolith Soft. Nick that I guess.
Also Inti Creates drew a thing

Splatoon is actually the first new IP from Nintendo EAD (their biggest division) since the restructure in 2003.
