We can now confirm that the Wii U nearly launched with an F-Zero title. Back in 2011, Nintendo of Europe asked Burnout studio Criterion to work on a pitch for a new F-Zero, which would have been shown at E3 that year alongside the official unveiling of the Wii U itself. Shigeru Miyamoto has previously stated that he's at a loss about how the revive the series, which would explain why Nintendo opened up the field to third party developers, to see what they could come up with
This is exactly what I was talking about earlier.
How to revive the F-Zero series:
1) Give it Mario Kart-style VR rankings
2) Give it online racing
3) Bring back the roster from F-Zero GX
4) Allow "retired" drivers to spectate the race in online
5) Have the people behind the antigravity mechanics in Mario Kart 8 design the courses
And if they REALLY must have something brand new:
6) Demolition Derby arenas where you have to destroy each other's cars
Did you ask your dad who works at Nintendo for verification?
My dad died a little while ago. Sorry.

Feel free to get defensive about baseless rumors tho.
People are saying that the reason we aren't getting Yoshi next week here in the US is because Nintendo wants to make sure they have enough amiibo manufactured for its release. Fuck amiibo. I hate everything amiibo. Especially since that bullshit is cutting into my Yoshi time.
Where does this rumor come from? Because 4 months to make more amiibos seem like way too much time. It's even weirder because shortage of amiibos never stopped Nintendo from releasing games before.

But those are literally baseline 'no duh' factors besides the Derby and anti-grav. And previous games (primarily X) had the Death Race, where it wasn't about getting laps - it was about destroying every single other racer. They could probably create an utterly chaotic online Death Race mode if they wanted.
The thing about this is that everyone seems to expect basically another game on-par with GX, but Nintendo and Miyamoto seem to not want to just create GX 2 or a direct sequel that plays as per usual. They seem to want to freshen it up or renovate it somehow, maybe with the Wii U Gamepad in mind (please no), which puts them at odds with the fans who just want some more F-Zero with no bullshit attached.
Honestly the gamepad is probably the least offensive thing they could integrate into the game. Make it cockpit view, make it a dynamic minimap, make it a rear view, etc, etc.

It's harder to think of ways they could use it that WOULDN'T be useful in a racing game.

Yeah I knew this story was bullshit when I read "Nintendo wants to make sure they have enough amiibo"

Captain Falcon's horn screams "YES" when used.

I'm not getting defensive at all, haha. I'm just poking fun at you for playing the know-it-all when we all know how that went last time. I couldn't say whether the rumor is true or not because I don't know where to verify that, just that it's what I've been reading on a ton of other places and I posted it here since it seemed relevant to the discussion. Sorry if my joke hurt your feelings, too. You can have one of my dads and we'll call it even.

Yeah, weirdly sensitive about it. Had to go get some of his stuff the other day and found a bunch of picture books that really got to me so feeling way more dense about mentions of it. Sorry.
On the topic of video games though I didn't pay much attention to Star Fox 0 and watching that you can finish stage 1 in different ways... hope that opens more paths like 64, the game looks way more fun then people have been giving it credit for.

As much as this really disappoints me, at least this confirms that Nintendo is actually trying at least.

I just don't get Miyamoto in this case though, this is one of the very few times I question him.
He manages to make a lot of Mario Parties, Mario Karts, etc yet he can't think of a new F-Zero after 10+ years?
Well, it was more because THE company they wanted for the project politely declined. They might be waiting for the next opportunity to negotiate with Criterion.
Wouldn't be surprised if EA had some hand in the canning of the project.
Wouldn't be surprised if EA had some hand in the canning of the project.
This happened before the Wii U was announced, so EA still liked the Wii U at that time if we go by the announcement presentation.

I can see why they're doing this. but one thing that kinda bothers me about this is how it seems like multiple people who actually use their accounts all on one console will also be affected by the ban all because one of the users of that console broke a rule.
Then the other users of that console can hold the guilty party accountable on their own terms.
Then the other users of that console can hold the guilty party accountable on their own terms.
Maybe, but the other users will still be banned because of the system.
Honestly, I feel that the whole "blame this guy even though this far superior being more directly punished us than the other guy" mindset is pretty obnoxious.
First offense is never permanent aside from some very serious infraction types (most bans are just 2 weeks)
If a member of your household got permanently banned from Miiverse (resulting in everyone else getting hit with the same), it might be worth having a talk with them about not being horrible.
the 300000000 get on /v/ was captured by splatoon.

That shit's hilarious
Im disappointed that Mario Maker is $60. And Animal Crossing House Maker is full price as well. Looks like ill be waiting for a sale.
This isn't anything against you Mark just to be super clear but statements like that bother me quite a bit.
"Here are the tools for literally endless amounts of content, a ton of custom stuff you can only do in this game, tools to make entire adventures with 4 different physics engines and a handful of nice online options." sounds like a really, really good deal to me.
If it was back when it only had NSMB-U and Mario 1 graphics and they shared the same engine I'd agree but... it's well worth the price tag now so when I see people hate on the price yet go and buy NSMBU I'm a little baffled.

I think things like Lunar Magic have spoiled people- it seems easy to do all the things Mario Maker does for free, so why isn't it cheaper? In reality it's rather hard, especially importing enemies and whatnot, but it doesn't appear that way so people think it should be for 20 bucks or more. I'm quite happy with the current price (coulda been 50 imo but still), and I think it'll be well worth it.

I think that idea stems from the fact that it's content made by other players, the type of stuff you could technically already get from the internet for free. Also, I don't know for you but I always thought of games that are based around building levels that are like the ones in that series, like WarioWare DIY, as costing less than a game of that series, because when this feature is in another game, it is an addition to the base game most of the time. I know that Mario Maker as all that additional content and ease of use, but you have to understand the other persons point of view.

Well, the thing is with me is that im not very creative so buying the game for me would just to play other peoples levels and have fun. Thats why i cant justify it being full price. For other people who have talent, im sure it will provide endless amounts of enjoyment.
Not only that, there's also nailing the physics of each iteration (from what I heard are very faithful to the originals), multi-level construction (people thought they would not be possible yet you can make Ghost Houses and mazes), new power-ups, new assets and new features (such as underwater Goombas and staking Bowsers).
I think it's worth the money you pay for it.
[editline]t[/editline]
That but also the fact that it's piss easy to use compared to the other, free alternative. Which is just a little more difficult then what most who be willing to go through for custom levels in their Mario games.

Which is why I'm not like NO YOU FUKKIN IDIOT HOW DARE YOU. :v:
The treehouse said there will be levels packed in as well so it's not JUST the creator apparently. Also I find it hard to compare it to WarioWare DIY because of the fact DIY only let you make a single type of minigame and was obscenely limited in scope- I'd argue that this is even more than Little Big Planet even if there weren't any bonus stages due to a game like LBP having completely shit physics and for all the creativity it offers none of the stages are very unique outside of visuals. (Not saying that's a bad series, either mind)
In reality there's probably going to be a lot of levels that are "lol check out my 1-1 remake of merrio" or levels that are under a few seconds long that some kid uploaded because "I can't into video games" but I have pretty high hopes after seeing what people have done with Lunar Magic- and that's just a single one of the engines it gives.
Back in the day I made romhacks and tried to program my own enemies and I'm still super psyched for the tools given.
