The Airship theme for SMW doesn't even have SPC instruments wtf
It technically does, though inexplicably they opted not to solely use the SPC instrument set from Super Mario World and didn't constrain themselves to the more limited usage of SPC effects that Koji Kondo did when writing the soundtrack for the game.
The brass is the SMW sample with extra vibrato, more akin to the usage of the sample in Super Mario All-Stars , the timpani is also from SMAS from the sounds of it (although strangely it sounds compressed nearly as much as the NES SMB3 sample, heck, it might even be the NES SMB3 sample and video compression is making that harder to recognize) though strangely, the strings sound more like they utilize the samples that Square-Enix typically adopted for games like Super Mario RPG (as an example, it seems to be the one utilized in Beware the Forest Mushrooms, among other songs), rather than something Nintendo themselves used normally. I don't recognize the orchestral bass as something that Nintendo has used in any of their SNES games or Super Famicom games, but I know I've heard it before.
It's definitely something the SNES is capable of (mostly because, unlike with, say, the soundset of the GBA utilized by most games, the SNES used true, one-key sound samples recorded from playing keyboards, compressed and combined those with MIDI-like note formats to keep them compact, and since most composers stuck with specific keyboards throughout the SNES era, they ended up using similar samples for most-to-all of the SNES games they worked with), though there are aspects of the music that don't fit the SMW style at all.

Not much of a problem right now tho.
If this turns out to be true, god fucking damn RIP.
Jesus Christ, that felt like it came out of nowhere but he's been having problems with that since last year. I didn't expect it to kill him though, wow.
RIP
I'm not going to understand and no one can make me
Iwata spent the last of his days apologizing for E3 and promising he'll try to make it better man fuck me I'm upset

Don't be, there's no way anybody could've known.
I think the best thing you can do now to show you appreciation to Nintendo is making something for the "Let's Super Mario" event they have going on. It would be wonderful if this turned to be the best tribute we could make.

How many programming mircles did this guy perform?
He managed to optimize Pokemon GSC so much they could fit pretty much all of the content from the first games on there. Game Freak's shitty optimization surprisingly still persists today.
He took a completely broken build of Earthbound and reworked it all of it in a weekend. God damn.
Melee, and the future of Smash Bros., would never have been the same without Iwata's last minute programming and debugging whirlwind
Not to mention every game he produced and directed

Man fuck me I'm so sad
I have no words, I'm really gonna miss Mr. Iwata.
One of the greatest minds at Nintendo is dead, I can't believe it. He died so young too.
My question is who will take over for him?

im pretty sure he ported the pokemon red/blue battle code to pokemon stadium in a week or something
you don't get someone so used to being on the frontlines of game development as well as an avid game lover as president of a games company very often. i always felt pretty secure about nintendo because of it.
To make it more amazing he ported the code to Pokemon Stadium without references.
Iwata was the head of Nintendo in early 2000/2001....
I was born in 2001...
I think he died to early. To be honest, Mr. Iwata inspired me to become a programmer, after learning form my brother that debug the shit of Melee, help created Kirby, and ported Pokemon Stadium without a ref.
I hope in the latest Nintendo game or the NX have a memorial or something dedicated for him.
I just.....cant even. wow.
Miyamoto has been defaulted to current interim president of Nintendo (jointed with Genyo Takeda), but based upon his previous distaste of high management positions, it might not be long before a proper one is nominated.
Question again is... Who?
