I was having an argument with my friend about the size of Zelda U's map- I think it's gonna be pretty big, but he says it's gonna be "decent, about the size of Shadow of Mordor." Now, I haven't played that game, but the internet tells me it's only twice the size of Arkham Origins. As someone who (reluctantly) played through that this winter, Zelda U seems a lot bigger than that.
I wanna use Twilight Princess's size to compare (because we know there's an area in U the size of it), but I haven't played that game enough to know it's scale. For anyone who's played TP, how big would you say it's size be?
Kinda hard to judge but during the showcase at Game Awards, when Link goes to meet Epona, the region right below surrondded by rock walls seems to be at least half, if not a fourth of the biggest plain in TP (Eldin Province Plains). And that's the lttile valley.
It very hard to know right now but since a single dungeon is rumored to be as big as Hyrule Filed in OoT and takes an hour to complete at best, we're in for a massive adventure.
Again, hard to judge so far.

Fair enough- I was more asking how big TP's map is compared to other games, less than how big Zelda U's map will be. Knowing that there'll be a dungeon as big as that gives me hope that my friend is just being conservative. Hopefully we'll get more information on the map size at E3.
Compared to TP... I'd say Eldin Province takes as much time to cross on foot (Kakariko until you pass the bridge into the loading zone) then to cross Hyrule Field from it it's farthest points.
My memory might be a little iffy but I think Eldin Plain is pretty close to be has big as Hyrule Field if not bigger. So TP overworld is around 3-4 times as big has OoT's overworld.
Now for Zelda U, we need continuous footage. The showcase footage was cut and, an analysis from GameXplain might have revealed that Aonuma went towards the beacon but passed it and went in a total different direction.
All footage was cut into pieces but from we've seen, it's definitly bigger then any world in the Zelda series (except the Great Sea because the game limits you to your Chart. It could be bigger seeing how Phantom Hourglass takes place in another region of it and Spirit Tracks is in a land far from where WW Hyrule sleeps).
Here is my speculation on the size of the map and length it would take to get from one side to the other. Calculated by using GTA5's map, drove in a garbage truck from the bottom to the top, added a minute on since it was going faster than a horse a bit.

Satoru Iwata has announced in a recent meeting that Amiibo have sold 5.7 million units worldwide. He also talks about the idea of putting Nintendo games onto Smartphones.
Unsurprisingly, the briefing also addressed Nintendo's plans for smartphones. While Iwata-san reiterated that Nintendo's considering various options - we know a dedicated team is working on at least one app or 'service' - he once again emphasized that existing console and portable games aren't planned for a move over to smart devices.
"As a rule, we don't consider to bring games for our game machines into smart devices. If we follow current games on smartphones and we just bring our current games into smart devices, it won't lead to the future."
I was really hoping it wouldn't come to mobile gaming. Something like Nintendo Video or the E-shop would be fine. I just don't want any actual Nintendo games on phones. But that is just me, I'm sure other people wouldn't mind in the least.

I'm honestly hoping they don't bring their focus to it, I'm fine with them making games but I have some doubt that they will be quality.

What? I don't understand. I don't like the gameplay motion controls and many things of Skyward Sword. Pretty much everything Sift said. Plus I already said couple pages ago "Yeah the story of Skyward is good but your going to hate getting though the game. Fi is dumbest thing in the world and the controls are soooooooo annoying. Fi actually one time killed me, i was walking though some quick sand and was almost all the way though and Fi fucking popped and said "hey look out my sensors say theres quick sand here" i died. Also the big doofy monster that comes out of the ground and you have to attack its toes is just ridiculous"

He just did a gag during his OoT video where he shits all over SS with no criticism. He just references the game and goes 'bad'.
[editline]29th January 2015[/editline]
SS had a huge amount of ups and downs, pretty much all the time with the entire game.
Sword fighting = fun
Memorizing enemy patterns so you have to swing in a specific direction = not fun
Fi = interesting character
Fi = FUCK YOU I FUCKING KNOW WHAT IM DOING FUCK OFF ABOUT THE BATTERIES FUCK
Area visual design = appealing
Area traversal design = i wish i had no legs
Ghirahim = yes i like
Fighting the Imprisoned 3 times = Fuck you Aonuma
SS brought a lot to the table, and it did a lot of it well (boss fights in particular were fantastic), but shit the bed with so much stuff its hard to make a satisfying opinion of it all.
Looking back, I probably got more consistent enjoyment from the DS Zelda games than I did SS.
I don't think fi would have been as annoying if they just gave you an option to turn her hints off.
For me, it feels that SS was made for the story first then the game second- the worlds were pretty small and linear, Fi was a light less than Navi (though a lot more important to the story), and generally there was a lot of handholding. I enjoyed it, at least, and the motion controls weren't shit for me (apparently people have problems with the controls? It's fascinating that there's so many different opinions). Honestly I'd go as far to say that SS was made to be a prequel for Zelda U. With things like the artstyle, the Sailcloth, and a whole unexplored groundworld? It's sharing a lot of characteristics, and hopefully we'll see even more as time goes on.

that's one thing I don't like about Zelda
I wish I could speed dialog and hints off or make them way less slooow (Hit button, deedoodedoo, door opens)
For me, it feels that SS was made for the story first then the game second
It's ironic you say this, as I remember there being a policy at Nintendo where the gameplay was top priority, and then story second :v:
If I remember correctly, a lot of Skyward Sword's cutscenes/writing were contributed by Monolith Soft.
[editline]28th January 2015[/editline]
Also I hold Skyward Sword in higher regard than most 3D Zelda games, only exception being OoT. I don't understand why people are so vitriolic about it when I can still have the capacity to love my least favorite 3D Zelda game (Majora's Mask).
Well, policy or not, gameplay and exploration seems to be the major focus of the next Zelda.
As for the pace of the game, nothing can be lightning fast when playing exploration games with puzzle solving in them. 1 or 2 seconds is necessary to let the player's brain assess the situation and know what he activate or at least identify what happened after he solved whatever he had to do.
The "Deedoodeedoo" sound is perfectly fine within that time frame so it attracts the player. It gives sub-objectives. I did this, it opens that, let's go there! And usually, not having someone telling what to do helps the player follow his natural curiosity.
Dialog is pretty fast most of the time (few exceptions being you got soft speaking characters like the Twilight region spirits or Tatl translating the giants) but usually, pressing B speeds up dialogues if not skips them completely.
I do agree that highlighted stuff could have a ON/OFF or just let the player toggle tutorials.

HOLD THAT LINE, HERE WE GO!

The moon just can't catch a break. He keeps getting thrown into the ground and being cut in half. Maybe that's why he always looks so angry.
Damn, I wish Fierce Deity's Mask did that on the original Majora's Mask to the moon.
Tingle owns, wonder if that ass slam he does is his dodge seeing as he's supposed to be able to attack while dodging

I do have to say I am overall kinda let down about this last dlc pack. Not because it's not giving me enough content lord no, but because it feels very, very little is based on Majora's Mask itself.
Young Link, Lana's Costume, The Map and the masks (Minus Midna's) are all that we get. The rest of it is OoT or Tingles Rosy Rupeeland and that's a tad frustrating. I don't think Skullkid would be that good of a choice but I wish he had got in over Tingle seeing as Tingle is less MM then he should be.
Fun fact, it seems Oni Link uses OoT Adult Link's voiceclips! As someone who's playing that now, it's actually really nice to hear.
