Finally got 100% in Tropical Freeze, man that's a disappointingly unceremonious ending, but it was worth it.
Watching Nintendo celebrate Kirby's birthday always leaves me a little salty, seeing how they constantly snub Metroid without fail.
I just feel that Metroid raised the expectations too much considering the genres it enters. like Kirby doesn't need extensive voice acting or even plot, most plot is generally self-contained in the game except in very few circumstances such as Dream Land 2, 3 and Crystal Shards. you'll probably have a few myth arcs like who created Nova or the Amazing Mirror which turns them from plot to pure fanservice. With Metroid, you'll now have to adhere to being 3D, needing voices, new locations all whilst trying to mangle itself into a spot in the timeline, the series itself has fractured between 2D and 3D whilst Other M fractured it even further. Maybe it's just how marketable franchises are. i wouldn't think Metroid to be that popular in Japan whilst Kirby might have a higher worldwide appeal, the 2D games are just there but has atmosphere which was a perfect fit considering the genre. but once it got into 3D the violence went up quite a bit which was it's undoing in Japan, but it's Nintendo so the Prime trilogy might have had praising reception in the west but inevitably it's like Dr Seuss making horror books which shoved away Japanese Nintendo fans, but not Metroid fans. Its basically some sort of weird Popularity x Appeal / Production Costs x Franchise Life / Number of Games ratio, Kirby's shortcomings is less pronounced, Amazing Mirror, Crystal Shards, Super Star and maybe Triple Deluxe is their apex. it progressively got on better consoles without changing the formula that much and it benefited from more console resources and capacity.

[editline]2nd August 2015[/editline] Probably doesn't help that Metroid games (outside of prime) have usually mixed receptions, Other M tanking it and FF getting ultra shit on for example. Kirby games might not be AAA BEST SELLERS but they're all widely loved and "It's alright" at worst.
Honestly right now even without a new Metroid title I'd be fine if the American eshop could just get Zero Mission already. It's still upsetting we haven't had a proper Metroid, 2D or otherwise in a while though.

I feel like Nintendo would prefer if Metroid was no longer a thing, and seeing as FF is going to be shat on pretty hard, I'm sure Nintendo is gonna go "WELL I GUESS NO ONE WANTS METROID, TIME TO PUT IT ON A SHELF FOR ANOTHER 8 YEARS." and if people somehow really like FF, they'll just make a sequel to that :v:

None of his mainline games are bad and the spinoffs are usually pretty good (Dream Course is awesome).

It's honestly really strange why Metroid went on an 8-year hiatus before in what many consider it's peak.
We must remember that Metroid is a much, much, much less popular series in japan compared to kirby, starfox, or even F-Zero. They just don't care about the series as much as we do, which is why the series gets the shaft more than any other it seems.

And even they didn't like the bad anime plot of Other M so here we are. I'm not gonna judge Federation Force until it comes out. For all we know it could be a pretty good game.

[editline]3rd August 2015[/editline] This probably has nothing to do with it but I always thought that Nintendo simply likes the more family friendly type of games which give them such a huge rep. Metroid and F-Zero aren't exactly family friendly.
That's really a shame, because Metroid and F-Zero have the potential to appeal to a large group of people, if only Nintendo would A. use them and B. go all-out with their worlds and mechanics.

The behind the scenes thing has been running for awhile and it's mostly the guy doodling stuff and talking about the story he has in mind for Kirby and him just talking with people. It's not like he's talking about Mario or Zelda or anything like that, go figure the guy making Kirby games is open and friendly v:v:v He's also the guy who confirmed that Magolor is a Official Kirby Buddy (tm)
All this Metroid talk makes me want to pick up the trilogy. Worth a buy?
All this Metroid talk makes me want to pick up the trilogy. Worth a buy?
Hell yes
All this Metroid talk makes me want to pick up the trilogy. Worth a buy?
The better question is, why haven't you?
Metroid was never big in Japan
Super Metroid sold better in Japan than in the USA. Although, despite them liking that and the first two games selling nearly as well as in the west, they curiously weren't that interested in Metroid Fusion (and obviously don't care for the 3D games).
The better question is, why haven't you?
Because buying Smash, Splatoon, and Wonderful 101 and some amiibo has drained the utter hell out of my wallet.
You could ask the same question about Toad and Yoshi.
Not really. The only Toad (to my knowledge) who has been the main protagonist of a game is Captain Toad, who is obviously different than the others. All the others seem to be relatively inconsequential. As for Yoshi, in both World and Sunshine (and probably other games), they are hatched from eggs, so it's probably safe to assume that they're different each time. In addition, Yoshi's Island wrought an assorted cast of Yoshi protagonists. That said, there does seem to be one or more Yoshis who own a home and go by the name "Yoshi".

"Yoshi is back in his own brand-new adventure" and so forth.

All the others seem to be relatively inconsequential..
The original (red-spotted hat, blue vest) Toad was the sole protagonist of Wario's Woods. The original Toad was also a co-protagonist in SMB2 and the Blue Toad from NSMBWii, NSMBU and SM3DWorld is a co-protagonist and is a color-friendly nod to the palette limitations Toad had in the NES version of Super Mario Bros 2. Yellow Toad is also a co-protagonist in NSMBWii and NSMBU. Similarly to Yoshi, but not as strongly shown, there definitely is a specific Toad that appears far more often than the others, but his role has been made more vague lately due to the Blue Toad from the New Super Mario Bros series and Super Mario 3D World, Toadsworth and Captain Toad.
We need answers, Nintendo.

Probably could of worded it better. Still though. [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] Bob is my favorite character
How do the screens on DS virtual games work? Top screen on TV, touch screen on gamepad? The screenshots only show both screens on the gamepad, but I've heard other people say you can use both screens.
You can change the screen layout. There's a number of options; both DS screens on both TV/gamepad with a DS overlay, sideways on the gamepad (left and right handed versions), both on the same screen but one bigger than the other etc.
Reminder to all those on the fence that tomorrow night is Splatoon's huge update- if you were waiting for the game to be more "completed" and holding off now's the time to dive in
The game has been getting a steady stream of updates since launch. Two new game modes, five new maps and a bunch of new weapons. Following this update it might not be much of a stretch to say that the game has about twice as much content as it did a couple months ago on launch, but I'm not sure. [editline]4th August 2015[/editline] Unless I counted wrong, the base game included 16 unique weapons, while starting tomorrow, 11 will have been added via update. This isn't including variant weapons that have identical stats, but different subs and specials.
