Since Wind Waker takes place after the future version of Hyrule in OoT (you know, the version where he tried to kill basically everyone and tormented everyone he didn't manage to kill), I find it a bit hard to sympathise with him. If that portrayal had been in Twilight Princess, it would have made more sense since he was struck down before he could go off genociding several spieces. Even though he was still and asshat in the child parts of OoT.
Well simultaneously that Adult timeline Ganondorf came back to wreck everything, succeeded but failed to seize Hyrule due to the goddesses intervening, and then had an untold number of years to mull on it all and realize that he was incredibly selfish and a complete monster that essentially destroyed a civilization for his own gain. Unfortunately he's so.. 'broken' by the experiences and this realization by this point of the timeline that he ultimately thinks the only way the people of the Great Sea, or at least himself, can even remotely find prosperous hope again is to bring back Hyrule and restore what he caused the destruction of. The ends justify the means, and he acknowledges his brutality and even refuses to outright kill Link and Zelda unlike all of his other appearances because of some semblance of morality. [sp]The Hyrule restoration gets to be ironic when Zelda and Link do eventually find an actual continental landmass after the King told them to find and proclaim their own land and legacy, and literally just call it New Hyrule.[/sp]
Translator for NoA complaining about stuff and being kind of a ass
You look at something like even Xenoblade Chronicles. People love that game, you know, within a certain group. That game is not the type of game that just pulls in enough to justify the costs on that. So that’s like, we got it in the States by luck, that NoE decided “Oh, we’ll take the fall. We’ll localize that.” Okay, cause someone is going to have to eat the costs somewhere, because that game is guaranteed to not sell enough to justify how big that game is. You know, hundreds of hours, all voiced. That’s a lot of money that goes into that.
I don't see how he's being an ass, he's not wrong. As popular as series like Final Fantasy, Pokemon and Dragon Quest are, JRPGs are still a very niche genre. I doubt the Xeno series has the following behind it for Xenoblade to have been a guaranteed hit if NoA translated it (I'm pretty sure a fair few Xenoblade fans aren't even aware of the earlier Xeno games). Ironically, it not coming to the states is what made Xenoblade as popular as it is now :v:
they're fair enough points EXCEPT FOR FUCKING REGION LOCK MEANING THE GAME GETTING LOCALIZED IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN PLAY A BUNCH OF THESE GAMES UNLESS WE PIRATE IT YOU FUCKING MONGOLOIDS seriously remove region lock and then we can just import games we want instead of being at the mercy of NoA's localization team
For everyone who hates themselves and money Golden Sun 2 releases today.
that best be sarcasm or you're cruising for a bruising pal It's good value for money, Lost Age is fucking big.
that best be sarcasm or you're cruising for a bruising pal
Sift has a massive hate boner for the Golden Sun games. Though the dialogue IS pretty bad.
Huh, broken automerge. Strange, the edit for that last post went through fine. Oh well.
I just realized that tasteless though it is, at least one asshole out there is going to make a 9/11 level due to the release date of Super Mario Maker.
Sift has a massive hate boner for the Golden Sun games. Though the dialogue IS pretty bad.
Sift sounds like a terrible person who is to be disregarded at all costs. On an unrelated note why mention the dialogue out of all things? Golden Sun isn't exactly a masterpiece of character depth but I don't remember anything being wrong with the dialogue.

Man I'd rather forget about the ds golden sun.

And I'm pretty sure the joke for that doesn't even apply to the first two. Dark Dawn could have been a lot better. I wish it sold well enough for them to have another shot at it with the problems Dark Dawn had taken into account. [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] The party member you get in the last hour of the game just to fill a slot was ridiculous.

[editline]7th August 2015[/editline] The party member you get in the last hour of the game just to fill a slot was ridiculous.
Nah it applies to the originals as well, I was in the same boat of loving the first two and playing dark dawn. "Wow the game ruined the series, I'll play the original 2 to wash it out of my mouth" only to find out that no the originals were just as bad. Won't go too far into it but here's some of the most repeated words for you're amusement. Take it as a warning when some of the most repeated words are just names. Will try not to derail it too much but if you want to revisit the schlock fest I suggest looking at this LP that attempts to fix the godawful writing (though nothing can save the barebones battle system) Click
Golden Sun's dialogue is pretty trash. It's nowhere close to the only thing that's pretty trash about Golden Sun, though. "Why did [the door] close?" "I don't know... Why does anything close?"
"I bet felix closed [the doors]" "Felix wouldn't. He's not the type to close [the doors]" "Then again maybe Felix would they are very [important doors]" "So we're all in agreement that [the important doors] Felix closed need to be opened?" *one of the characters jumps in place before a anime sweat bubble appears* "I just remembered I have a crippling fear of [important doors]" "Oh I forgot Felix hit Isaac by slamming a [door] in his face" "Kraden would know he saw [the doors] hit him" Sorry had to add for realism.
For everyone who hates themselves and money Golden Sun 2 releases today.
Holy shit really? Aw yiss [t]https://d3esbfg30x759i.cloudfront.net/ss/zlCfzTHYX3wkGOlQjR[/t] Hate all you want, GS1 and 2 were my childhood games and I will love them forever. yeah that was a huge dumb overreaction sorry
Well, I'm not dumb enough to try to argue with a guy like Sift. You might as well just beat your head against a wall and save yourself the trouble because it's exhausting and frustrating. This is not a "hurr durr your opinion is dumb ur 2 dum for me to argue with", but a guy who very much wants to tell you how much he hates something is an exercise in frustration if you aren't just as obsessed with demonstrating how much you love it, and I am not up for that kind of argument. If you don't like it, whatever. If you want to choose to interpret that as an insult rather than a flag of neutrality, go right ahead, but I'm dropping out. I'm sick of arguments like that. You just yell at each other until one person gets sick of arguing with the other and stops and then the other guy calls it a victory. Besides, I like Golden Sun for the exploration and the puzzles and the gameplay part of the game anyway. Plus I like the old style of combat despite its simplicity. The amount of stat and ability customisation you can achieve by messing around with the elemental Djinn was fun, would like to see that concept explored in a game with more in-depth combat. It's not exactly a plot heavy game after the dialogue-heavy intros save for the important parts of the story anyway. Some RPGs I play have me want to throw out the gameplay so I can get to the story, for others the story is just the vehicle for the gameplay. Golden Sun's plot was okay for its purpose. I find it fun, I don't exactly have a 500 page essay to explain why I like it like some people seem to have to explain why they hate it. I don't have anything to offer but "that doesn't bother me" or "i thought that was okay" and "okay but i still like that part". [editline]8th August 2015[/editline] Sorry if that's an overreaction, I'm just really done with arguments that could be described as big and angry and stupid. If there's even a chance of one happening I'm done.
Uh... [editline]wut[/editline] I mean I don't agree with him either, but I don't see why one person's hatred/ disappointment with a game should stop you from enjoying it yourself. [sp]And even I'll admit the writing was kind of all over the place, but I dunno, it kind of had a charm to me that I admired.[/sp]
Sorry if that's an overreaction, I'm just really done with arguments that could be described as big and angry and stupid. If there's even a chance of one happening I'm done.
Chill out, homie. This is an internet forum; you don't need to get worked up over anything. If you're "done" then don't type out long-ass dumb posts like that, just shut up.
Words
Chill dude, I think the games bad but if someone likes it I don't really care. I mean there's a reason I alerted people that it's out in the first place. My entire thing is that I think the games bad and that's it, I'm not saying you're bad because you like it or whatever. It's not personal. [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] YO WE ESPORTS Splatoon Tourney got announced in Japan :v:
So IGN just put up some new footage of Star Fox Zero, and... It looks like it came straight off the Gamecube. It's an odd thing, and I'm really not sure if it's graphical laziness or an intentional art style. I don't mind it, it's just out of the ordinary. We don't see a lot of games with really polygonal models these days.
Yeah we've known it's not going to be winning awards for looks-and I'm aware what I'm about to say sounds like I'm making excuses for it but I do kinda like it like that. If it's a short arcade experience like 64 there's something charming about it looking like a arcade game. Hydro Thunder looks like hot ass if you look at screenshots but it's kinda campy and I like that stuff.

And it looks fun in that "I'm ten and I just got a new Gamecube and this is Christmas morning" kind of way. It looks like old Nintendo, which is really pulling some nostalgia strings I didn't know I had. I don't think it'd have quite the impact if they had fully modernized it.
I'm not sure I'm quite sold on it yet, the aiming mechanic still looks pretty awkward to me. But then I thought Splatoon would be awkward with motion controls before playing it, so who knows.
My problem isn't the model quality, or texture quality, it's the fact that the levels are just empty, like, no scenery, no foliage, nothing, but models stuck onto terrain.
I'm not sure I'm quite sold on it yet, the aiming mechanic still looks pretty awkward to me. But then I thought Splatoon would be awkward with motion controls before playing it, so who knows.
It actually works really well once you get used to it, you'd be surprised. [editline]t[/editline]
My problem isn't the model quality, or texture quality, it's the fact that the levels are just empty, like, no scenery, no foliage, nothing, but models stuck onto terrain.
Starfox games are generally like this by choice for several reasons. Less visual clutter when you're trying to acquire targets mostly, but also so they don't have to use distance LoDs or have obvious pop-in in their large environments. Clarity and consistency, no distractions. Also so there's less to randomly clip against and lose health from when flying low. That would be frustrating, so the stages are big, open and sparse to minimize the chance of that happening.
I didn't really notice low poly models or low res textures back in the E3 gameplay footage, but my eyesight is very poor :v: I should probably take another good look at it, but nothing caught my eye in the first place. The only issue I have with the game's graphics is the characters models. Fox looks way too realistic in comparison to the others, and the proportions are kinda weird.
Eh, I don't have much nostalgia for Gamecube graphics. Looks low-effort. It's not a deal-breaker or anything and of course it won't affect the gameplay but in no way am I ever going to spin it.
It's sad that, because they sacrificed graphical fidelity for 60 fps on both screens, people will only be able to notice the graphics rather than the effort they put in.
It's sad that, because they sacrificed graphical fidelity for 60 fps on both screens, people will only be able to notice the graphics rather than the effort they put in.
2015 games industry in a nutshell No one appreciates the work put into making a game run well as much as they do making it look nice instead [editline]t[/editline] And it's a shame because we've learned the latter tends to age very poorly compared to the former, time and time again.
