Sift gets my point. I'm not saying you shouldn't excited for a new Zelda, but to have blind faith and think this big open world is gonna be as good as they talk it up to be is a great way to let yourself down.
I'm optimistic they've learned their lesson from Skyward Sword, but this overworld better have plenty of fun caves and shit to explore on top of dungeons and stuff.
Look, it's fair to be concerned. You can say "there doesn't need to be a fight every 5 minutes" but if I'm playing a game and I'm going through a generic field for 5 minutes that's some straight up bullshit. Sure first time through I'd probably dig it but imagine going back and forth and each trip taking that long adding up to possibly a hour or so of backtracking for just one area. It's not okay at all.
Hell with them boasting how HUGE and NEVERENDING the map is or whatever I'm terrified of how they're going to handle heart pieces or the fact the towns are going to be filled with cardboard cutouts that don't really have much more then a single line of text.
It's fair to be excited but don't be blindly excited and instantly think that bigger is always better. They really need to release more footage sometime soon to show how it's coming along.
As much as I'm excited for this game, there is always a part of me that whispers "What if it isn't?". I cannot ignore it because it would be foolish and I would get a massive backlash if the game doesn't live up to a huge amount of hype that I end up building myself.
You are totally on point on the "blind faith" thing and I know many others will be disappointed because of they raised the hype bar too high. I remember being a bit down on TP because it wasn't as dark (in lightning and atmosphere) as in the showcases and trailers. I was looking forward to using the lantern a lot more and managing its fuel.
I use the word "hope" and "wish" many times in my posts because at this point, it really is just that. If it isn't, well, it's still a Zelda game that I'm going to enjoy. Even Skyward Sword was enjoyable despite its linearity.
As for the backtracking in such a massive environment, there has to be a fast travel option or a way to teleport yourself in already visited regions. It's been a staple since the original Zelda, despite skipping a few games but none of the 3D ones.
Unless it's a timed quest (like the Biggoron Sword trade quest in OoT or WW's Spirit Water timed quest), you'll be using the warp to re-position yourself to continue exploring. So I wouldn't worry about it.

Seeing how much I enjoyed exploring and discovering in ALBW, I think they are. But it's a top perspective game, which is different when it comes to hiding secrets.
Speaking of ALBW. I still firmly believe one of their goals with the game was to test the waters and try out a nonlinear dungeon order and see how people would like it. I'm also really fond of the regenerating magic meter, but that's just a personal preference

The all purpose magic meter was an idea I wasn't sold on until playing with it. Afterwards, I wouldn't mind if it became a series staple.
I primarily want more in-depth combat and a little more difficulty.
I'm not saying it has to go full Dark Souls, but the Darknut fights were the funnest fights in Twilight Princess and most of the enemies in Skyward Sword were pushovers. Fights are more fun if you have to do more than button mash your way through and follow a single easily avoidable pattern.

That and friendly fire from Wind Waker. It was fun to use their own strength against their allies.
Also, give other options to defeat them. By playing TP with none of the hidden skills (a 3-hearts, no shield run), I learned that you could destroy a Darknut's armor with three bombs timed to explode behind them, each taking 2-3 parts of their armor. I also learned that the Ball and Chain (a weapon that should come back) can stun enemies in a similar fashion to the Shield Bash.
Hopefully, items will be similar to ALBW, where even the lamp could be used in combat. And they have to go back to an equipment screen similar to OoT and TP, where you can use older equipment or choose different tunics and shields.
I think the infinite magic thing is okay if there's a reason for it. It worked because the wall painting drained it and they couldn't really restrict it as players would get trapped but... if there's no reason for it make it a reward or something like in Majora's Mask where it's time limited.

You know with such big fields and such I'd like to see a 3D zelda with the pegasus boots. Instead of teleporting you haul fucking ass. Sure it'll turn epona into a "who cares" thing other then for fun but I can't think of a game that she stays useful other then to jump a gate.
I sometimes forget Epona was even in TP
[editline]9th March 2015[/editline]
Thinking on it now, every item you get in the new Zelda, or at the least most of them should have something it can do on the field. The bow to shoot down fruit or whatever crazy thing I kinda refuse to believe that can restore hearts or you can carry around, boots would give new combat abilities with dashing attacks but can travel insanely fast (thinking kind of like goron rolling or how new zora swimming works), fishing poll can fish and also kill ganondorf etc.

There was that webm from Watch_Dogs where they sped up the protags run speed and animation and it looked fun as fuck. Speed in 3D would be neat without the need for Sonic platforming.

Did you forget about all the horseback combat? I'm not saying it was that good, but it was pretty prominent.
I mean, Nintendo really hasn't made a (really) bad Zelda game yet, they all were, IMO, enjoyable in their right way. So with an history that good, yes, I kind of have faith in the upcoming one. Seems kind of foolish to think that way, but I'm sure Nintendo won't screw up one of their biggest series.

Thats what the said about Other M...
On the note of Zelda combat, I never really liked the fights in OoT or MM all that much. Even TP was quite dull if you didn't go out of your way for the additional skills. With how often the enemy is blocking and how long you have to wait for an opening, it just feels like they're wasting your time to make the confrontation longer and SEEM harder.
Wind Waker got it absolutely right, in my opinion. More intelligent enemies will almost always counterattack after blocking one or two of your strikes, and you're able to parry these counterattacks in a variety of ways, keeping a constant, fast pace going, rather than everything grinding to a halt when your foe raises their guard. Also some stronger enemies like Moblins had hidden weak points that totally debilitated them briefly, opening up even more strategic options for smart players to exploit. I don't feel there was a single enemy that wasn't fun to fight, just because of how many different options you're always given.
[editline]10th March 2015[/editline]
Think about it this way: The only game in the series so far to match the number of Darknuts in a single room that the original LoZ had you fight... Is Wind Waker.
And yet even then, the combat is so fluid and fun that the thought of taking them all on at once isn't dreadful, it's exciting.

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Fire Emblem, Zero Mission (I think EU gets it this week, unless Germany doesn't count when they say EU and I'm being ignorant), SMA3: Yoshi's Island, Golden Sun, Super Metroid, Mega Man X, and so on and so forth. Pretty much all of these games are of varying genres so look up what each is and see if it corresponds with your genres of choice.

news to me hot damn another buy for me
I was also considering the MK8 DLCs, is the money worth it?
btw I already got shovel knight, is rly good
For some reason I keep thinking the second DLC pack comes out in March, when it actually comes out in May.
It really depends on how much you play Mario Kart- if you're playing a lot already, or plan to, definitely get them, the tracks added are all pretty good.
chrono trigger is on the wii u vc now apparently
thanks nintendo of australia twitter

hallelujah first Metroid zero mission now this its a good week for VC for Europe/Australia
So they put the best RPG ever made on the eShop? Neat.
Personally I'd rather they port the DS version, but that's fine too.

Yes. The 8 tracks currently out are all quite fun and have really good music, and I suspect that the other 8 will be the same way.

How often do you play Mario Kart?
I bought the season pass because the base game was super good but got burned out. New courses came out and while they're all fantastic I lost interest super super fast. They waited way, waaay too long to put them out in my honest opinion.
I'm sure the remaining 8 courses will be great but if your tired of MK it won't really grip you.
Nintendo is just talking about the Wii VC version of Chrono Trigger that has been on the Wii shop channel for 4 years now. There is no eshop version.
Thats what the said about Other M...
True. But I don't think it's a representative way of seeing things. The number of good games they did for their main games outnumber greatly the bad ones.
I understand that sometimes it's a good thing to be pessimistic about things, especialy when it comes to video games, but I just can't see a really bad Zelda game coming on the market. That vision just doesn't exist for me.
Now, I hope Nintendo won't let me down on that one, otherwise I'll look like a major tool.
Ended up buying the DLC pack, I play Mario Kart whenever my friends are over, it's a great game to just slap in and jokingly get mad at your friends about :v:
Completely agreed! Just my friends don't like racing me as I usually win so don't have anyone to play against so didn't get a lot of mileage out of pa ck 1
After months of hesitation I finally bought a WiiU with MK8, a pro controller & Smash 4. Should arrive by friday!
Hopefully my friends will be free at the weekend.

Congrats, you now own the only next gen console worth owning at the moment!
Congrats, you now own the only next gen console worth owning at the moment!
Thanks, although I'm a big fan of Kingdom Hearts and have the pathetically feint hope of a Crash or Spyro game in the future so I'm not 100% sure about the whole only console worth owning thing.
But yes, for now.
Congrats, you now own the only next gen console worth owning at the moment!
Correction: the only console worth owning at the moment if you like your games to be imaginative and escapist, rather than oppressively gritty and shallow.
[sp]I like all three, but there's absolutely no denying the other two are staying pretty lockstep with the industry's current dark-n-edgy trend, bar some exceptions.[/sp]
The Wii U is also the cheapest console to own seeing as there's less DLC motherfuckery and no online fees.
