I would say that the Mario series tends to be easily approachable, so unless the games are 2D, the 3D games might be slightly jarring. like Sunshine is the first Mario game to have actual full dialogue and an attempt to do a "random" story, then again, this was during the generation when they attempted to add characters to the main Mario series like Bowser Jr, E. Gadd, FLUDD and possibly Rosalina. the game itself had Bowser in an unassuming antagonistic role who only fought Mario because Bowser Junior made the plot about him and bought him to Bowser. With that said, Sunshine was more about exploration than 64 and the wave physics was pretty great for the Gamecube, Galaxy returned to the Mario 64 collectathon mechanics however character physics was simplified and elected for gravity use in a more atmospheric game. it's something like Sunshine's emphasis on plot but in something that genuinely feels like a sequel to Mario 64. The NSMB subseries was well received because originally it was the first time in years that Mario himself returned to 2D gaming, after that it just got overdosed on releases and had to attempt to incorporate seldom-seen characters into gauging up hype (which isn't bad). NSMB 2 may have been the first black eye to the series just because of the unhealthy emphasis on coins and partially on DLC, but NSMBU gets it back up to NSMB1 levels. In terms of exploration, i have to give the edge to Super Mario World for incorporating switches and only using vague hints like parts of platforms not entirely going beyond the screen, rather than NSMBU's tendency into having hidden passages which are genuinely counter intuitive to a player. Mario World has much freer physics to NSMBU; the cape may be slightly overpowered but the utility to bypass lots of stages makes it much more challenging, especially if you somehow get into the special world with no switches. SMB just has the tendency to be amazing when it comes out, but looks slightly average once the next game comes out. it's different from the Legend of Zelda series where the different gameplay, yet in amiliar styles encourages people to play previous games for the plot (and possibly continuity), the only objectionable games for LoZ may simply be 2 (sidescrolling RPG with platforming elements) or the Original. (Rupees to use arrows, permanently lost heart containers? going in blind without a map?!?). The only flaw 3 has is that despite branching stages, it was just from point A to point B, World made an improvement by adding alternate exits. Whistles are also unusual too, though the series hadn't got to the point yet where every game needs to alter the gameplay mechanics with more power-ups whilst some rotates out like in the NSMB series. U SPOILERS [sp]even if the propeller hat and Penguin suit is in Supestar Road[/sp]
It's funny when people say that the series is dishing out too many rehashes because the NSMB series has only had 4 games (5 if you include NSLU, but I feel that counts more as an extra DLC mode for NSMBU) in 6 years when, between 1985 and 1992, we got all 7 of the other 2D platformers in a yearly manner. What Nintendo needs to do if they're continuing the NSMB series is make some new music and some new aesthetics; those two things have a gigantic part in why they feel like rehashes and not the gameplay itself, which is actually pretty significant from game-to-game in the NSMB series. (not as significant as the leap between SMB3 and SMW, but it's comparable to the difference between SMB and SMB3)
Shit son, you coulda made a photo mosaic of a middle finger comprised of pictures of you banging my mom, and I would have been less offended. It maybe got up to SMB 3 level design at best with maybe some small Mario parts and a giant Wriggler to mix things up. Don't even get me on the secret exits that were nowhere near as fun to find as the ones in World.
Agreed on secret exits, a lot of them felt like they had 0 hints to them in U and that is a legit criticism but I just feel the basic level design in and of itself is far more imaginative. I play both of the games once a year at least and U is just more fun. Then NSLU starts and the level design is brilliant in keeping you running through courses.
You guys think we'll see another Direct anytime soon, or do you think they're gonna try and save everything for the e3 Direct?
You guys think we'll see another Direct anytime soon, or do you think they're gonna try and save everything for the e3 Direct?
There's been rumors of one happening in April- imo it would not be surprising. Looking up the archrives they had one in April and one in May in 2013 (iwata was sick in 2014 so we didn't get any like we did then), so if they were to announce one it would be either of those dates.

Oh man. The Boss DLC is out! Ganon's Fury (Ganon mode) is fun as hell. And seeing the Giant Bosses get fling around is satisfying. And Challenge Mode has new stuff and score boards. Not to mention, level cap is now 255.

If I had a CRT to play the N64 on, maybe.
It's cheaper to get a replacement stick for your n64 controller. Some people also just use the standard n64 sticks but replace the gears/lube them

I love the novelty of the N64 controller and I've got nostalgia goggles for it for sure, but shit's uncomfortable.

Also it'd suck for some games, like Goldeneye 64 or Mischief Makers

Bayonetta 2 and Wind Waker HD just arrived from Amazon. Bayonetta came with a Club Nintendo code, but Wind Waker didn't. Didn't realize that they would remove CN codes for older games too. Guess I won't be getting Platinum status this year. :(
You have any friends with old CN codes? It's not over yet.
No, and I don't wanna beg. At least I was able to get Wonderful 101 with my coins. Kinda hard to complain about that.
I'm waiting for the platinum rewards to show up :3
Is there any version of the N64 pad that won't destroy your palm during a intense game of Mario Party?
Is there any version of the N64 pad that won't destroy your palm during a intense game of Mario Party?
Unfortunately, no. But if you find this type of replacement stick it'll do wonders. I put this into my controller and it feels just as new. I tend to play quite a lot of FPS games on the N64 and the concerns about sensitivity aren't really that much of a complaint. The extra speed is pretty good for when you have to do a quick turn in say, Goldeneye, but if I remember correctly you can change the horizontal and vertical sensitivity in the options menu for the Turok games and a bunch of others. There are two versions of this stick, one where the sensitivity is WAY too high and one where it's just right. The one with the extremely high sensitivity won't let you perform certain actions in Zelda such as the Spin Attack and FPS games are very hard to play. However there is the regular version which fixed all the problems and it's the most common version you can find. It's really rare to find the old one with the sensitivity issues ofcourse. They're slightly hard to find in Europe but there is this one guy on EBAY who sells them for a decent price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231275194618?_trksid=p2060353 - This guy sells the regular verisons with the toned down sensitivity.

That'd odd. I didn't see the price like that a few minutes ago. :v:
