In MKWii it was basically pointless to ever be in first other than right before the finish line on lap 3, because of the sheer pain of the items.
Also, Shy Guy Falls is probably my favorite track.
Right, there is a balance. Too many items makes the game a spam fest, too little makes it a pain to catch up.
I think Mario Kart DS and Double Dash struck the perfect balance. DD had a lot of items, but the majority required aiming so you had a lot of items you could fight back with.
There will never be a more perfect Mario Kart in my eyes until they bring back double racers and special items for characters. Like DK getting the giant banana, koopas getting triple shells, yoshi getting a egg thing, Mario Luigi fire flames, ect. THATS what Mario Kart should be all about. Mario DS was the last Mario Kart i was hooked too.
I only played Mario Kart 8 onced, and my blood boiled, and then ionized. I'm not sure I've ever been so mad in my life. Part of this may be due to loosing like 6 cups in a row against my little sister.
MK8 is definitely more skill based, which is a plus. Good players stay in front is how it should be considering the competitive online multiplayer. I wouldn't say any of the items felt useless, though. There's more technique to the game than previous Karts.
I'll agree with you on the flat wide courses, but I don't think that's the worst thing on the planet. The SNES Rainbow Road was a bit of a disappointment though. It's so wide that it doesn't even matter that there aren't guard rails. Shame.
One thing I want Mario Kart to do more is to have proper shortcuts, but are hard to execute/imposssible without a mushroom. It makes those in last not have to drift at every turn possible to even have a chance of catching up.

As I said, they aren't "useless" just not very effective in some cases (mushrooms are a good example, they give very little ommph)
Message from Aonuma regarding Zelda U:
https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=866919960035802
in short, a 2015 release isn't top priority for them anymore
Apparently, Zelda U ain't coming this year.
Here's the video. Video
Sadly it's on FB. If someone else finds another source, please share.
Basically, Mr. Aonuma himself addresses that while exploring and testing, they found new ideas that would make the game feel like the ultimate Zelda game.
So sorry folks, we aren't getting anymore Zelda this year...

Damn you, Mr. Bond!
At least thats time spent making an even better game.

Actually you're just using the mushrooms wrong. Like I said, there's more technique to this game. Instead of mindlessly using mushrooms wherever, use them to cut across terrain (some shortcuts are built in with mushrooms in mind, and you can generally just cut corners all around most maps) in order to cut time off your lap. This is how mushrooms are intended to be used in MK8.
Star Fox is still this year, I believe. Fun is not yet dead.

Eh, not terribly concerned by this. We've already got a pretty good lineup this year with Splatoon, Xenoblade, and Yoshi coming out in the next three months. Kirby just came out as well. Isn't Star Fox supposed to come this year?
Star Fox is still this year, I believe. Fun is not yet dead.
And Splatoon and Mario Maker.
I wonder if they have another title for this year's Holidays release. Since Zelda ain't for this year, makes you think they might show something else at E3.
Don't forget animal crossing
Don't forget animal crossing
Animal Crossing has something for Wii U?
So what do you guys think? Summer, Fall or winter 2016 for Zelda U's release?

After E3 2016 at the very least I would say.
Animal Crossing has something for Wii U?
Every nintendo console has gotten animal crossing since gamecube, so I don't know why it would stop now.
Every nintendo console has gotten animal crossing since gamecube, so I don't know why it would stop now.
You can't really say there's a pattern based on two consoles :v:
I'd like another console one but I remember somewhere they said that Animal Crossing is better portable
I think the thing with Animal Crossing is that the whole major piece of evidence is that the dev mentioned something about new updates about the franchise. after Animal Crossing Plaza shut down, think the US is doing foreign DLC...guessing that they're whittling down content and squeeze every last bit out to tide people over before revealing Animal Crossing U.
Hopefully they'll at least do a multiplat release, but do it in a way that you can play both games, like New Leaf was one of the best AC games in the series, and the whole Spotpass deal really played in the game's favor. the only way it could get screwed up is if it was Wii U only, or if it suffers from Ice Climbers-tiered outrage; like no QR codes/Spotpass to have games in the same content. or you could use the 3DS to hold a basic copy of your Wii U town then reupload what you found to it.
Or god forbid, make it microtransactionish with DeNA.

The Animal Crossing developer Miiverse account teased it before and after the Animal Crossing Plaza shut down.

Since the N64*
Japan only, of course, but I still think it counts.
They didn't make that dumb Animal Crossing Plaza for laughs, there going to make one for the WiiU
I hope they keep those visuals too. Overhead camera with tilt shift miniaturization effect had a lot of charm to it.

The Gamecube game is actually a port of the 64 version. Shares that merit with Doshin the Giant and (though the 64 version was cancelled) Cubivore.
Point is, every 3D Nintendo platform has had Animal Crossing, handheld or TV.
Or god forbid, make it microtransactionish with DeNA.
How would AC microtransactions work? Like, buy any orderable item not in your in-game catalog for 10cents apiece?
AC seems much more conducive to DLC than it does microtransactions.
The whole point is that you can play however you want, however long you want, with no pressure. IAP would add a lot of restrictions and pressure, the very antithesis of AC's philosophy.
If the game was free and the microtransactions were reasonable it sounds almost ok
If the game was free and the microtransactions were reasonable it sounds almost ok
I'd much rather pay $30-60 for a game than for it to have any sort of micro transactions.
IMO the ideal Animal Crossing would be a standard retail full game, but every month for several years after release they put out a reasonably priced (or free) expansion with tons of new stuff.
That'd significantly boost interest and longevity of the game, and keep it profitable much longer too.
