That's fine and and all, but now that we got DK64. When we are getting Diddy Kong Racing?
30 coins short of Starfox 64 3d and just realized I haven't used my bayonetta 2 code yet fuck my life
I want a game with Samus and Captain Falcon as a bounty hunter duo.
Any recommendations from the reward lineup for a pleb with 670 coins?
I want a game with Samus and Captain Falcon as a bounty hunter duo.
Wasn't it implied that Metroid, F-Zero and Starfox all take place in the same physical universe? F-Zero and Starfox reference eachother frequently, and I believe some of the logs in the Prime series vaguely allude to the existence of a star called Lylat and a non-Federation-sanctioned racing league.

Going by references and cameos though would mean Mario's in the same universe as Metroid and Zelda and Kirby's visited Hyrule before.
That's fine and and all, but now that we got DK64. When we are getting Diddy Kong Racing?
Mario Kart 64, Diddy Kong Racing, and Mickey Mouse Speedway were my shit.

Definitely not gonna see anymore references between, though, simply because they're so different.
Metroid x Kid Icarus
I don't think I ever got all the notes in the original Banjo Kazooie because of this. That and there was that bug where if Banjo collected the notes in the jigsaw puzzle cutscene you couldn't get them in the actual level for some reason.
That's actually a glitch that was introduced to the Xbox Live Arcade version, because they changed it so that notes stay collected and didn't consider that Banjo collecting them in the Bottles' Bonus scenes would remove them permanently from the levels. They fixed it in a patch.
That's fine and and all, but now that we got DK64. The G-diffuser tech from the Lylat system is used in the F-Zero circuit's machines, and was a core element of the league's foundation. Metroid is where things get complicated, because now we're dealing with the Galactic Federation, who operate a closed-border militant state under the guise of protection from outside forces. They may be actively suppressing any information regarding in-reach systems which could house life, for the sake of protecting the power of their own rhetoric. In other words, they could be covering up knowledge of unresearched or uncontacted alien life.
Oh huh, I just remembered it because that was the last version I played v:v:v
That was the version I played when I finally 100%ed the game. It's one of the easier collectathon games to 100% because of how straightforward everything is. Banjo Tooie is way more complicated and I haven't really been bothered to 100% that one yet, I always get turned off by the excessive backtracking and Jiggies unlocked by moving between levels. The XBLA versions were good remasters, one of the last good things Rare did.
I never got into DKC because I never liked DK much as a character. DKCR is fun though, I'm thinking my initial judgment was a mistake.
Well you can play 2 and 3 because only one Donkey Kong Country game actually has Donkey Kong in it.
Well you can play 2 and 3 because only one Donkey Kong Country game actually has Donkey Kong in it.
I guess I should extend that statement to "I never much cared for the designs of the Kongs, and kind of hate some of them." But again, DKCR is leaving a good impression with gameplay, so... [editline]t[/editline] Would a good next step be DK64? Or the original DKC? Don't feel like dropping full retail on Tropical Freeze, especially since I dunno if I'll really stick with it.

For me personally it's Tropical Freeze > DKC2 > Returns > DKC 1 > DK 98' (technically a Mario game) > DKC3 > Pulling some nails > DK64
Personally I've always been fine with collectathon games (happily 100%ed both Banjo and Tooie at least once), so unless DK64 commits the cardinal sin of having things you can permanently miss, I don't think I'd mind it. Aside from just having an excessive amount of things to collect, is it really all that bad?

DKC games are great, but they play differently than the reboot. So if it's the gameplay you like with Returns, go for Tropical Freeze.

I'm only asking if it's worth playing because I've rarely seen Sift so determinedly shit on a game before
I'm only asking if it's worth playing because I've rarely seen Sift so determinedly shit on a game before
This is like, 10% of what he did to Golden Sun.

When I was a kid I legitimately 101% DK64. I went back to the game recently and wondered how the fuck I could do that without going bonkers. I must have used a strategy guide or something. I'm a completionist with Nintendo/Rare games and DK64 has way, way, way too much stuff to collect, and the colored bananas made things much more tedious. I guess people who aren't completionists can have a good time with the game but DK64 is definitely not worth the hassle to complete 101%. I think you got a special ending or something. The multiplayer was fun as hell though, but you need actual people to play it. Also, as a kid, Wrinkly Kong's noise when you get hints from her scared the shit outta me.
Man, fuck that noise. Ghosts are spooky.
What bothered me was, who took the time to place 8 sets of five identical doors that open to the Netherworld all around an island in the middle of fuck-knows where?
I forgot something I abou dk64 Got 101% on one file but have not gone to fight k rool yet cant wait for it on wiiu
On the topic of DK64 I have the weird memory (maybe a dream?) about playing it circa ~4 years old. I think I was in part of the overworld or something, and the whole world was dark or rainy. I can't remember if there was music, but it was either silent or slow and a little spooky. I think I jumped across a vine into another area, and then a cutscene happened and all I remember is DK having a shocked expression on his face. Did this actually happen at any point :v: ? This is my most potent memory of DK64.
I'm only asking if it's worth playing because I've rarely seen Sift so determinedly shit on a game before
I do it to those two games mainly because I feel they are legit bad games that only get by on the fact that they're older so people have fond memories of them. Golden Sun was entirely my jam for example, I'd fill notebooks with my crummy fanart of it and browse the internet for codes when TLA came out. As a kid I thought the story was one of the most exciting and compelling things I've ever read, I'm completely honest when I say that. DK64 was huge to me as a kid because there was frankly nothing better and sure the game might bug itself out but it's not like there was much else. I went back and played both games/series over the years and realized "wow these games have aged terribly." and when I try to explain that or give reasons why I get ganked by rose tinted glasses folks yelling "It was cool when I was a kid there's no way it could of aged badly." which is why I try my best to give a good argument as to /why/ they're bad that way it's not just a bunch of "it has cool music and a amazing plot" or "the levels are huge and great and lanky is funny". I forgot who but someone posted their thoughts on why they liked DK64 and it was pretty huge, I didn't yell at him because he gave his side and it was fair- there's two sides to a argument. It's also why I don't respect people like murple (sorry buddy) because instead of giving a rational explanation as to why he likes the games and voicing his opinions dude leans on personal attacks instead. Edit: Looked back and it was Reds, I may not agree with him but he at least typed out a reason he disagreed! It's a good post.
