Mighty No.9 goal reach time was impressive but this is overkill. The guys at Playtonic must be jumping of excitement! I'm glad for them. I might put a bit on this one too a little later. Gotta get some dosh first.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/playtonic/yooka-laylee-a-3d-platformer-rare-vival Lol it's already raised over a seventh of it's goal in four minutes
It already reached its goal. And the numbers are still going up in front of my eyes.
the rate its going they will have enough money for a sequel by the time those 46 days are up
Time to wake up to the damn thing having hit a million at this rate.
This might be the first kickstarter that I've ever supported. The only thing I don't like is how different the styles of the two composers are, they don't seem to fit. Kirkhope is great as usual, exactly the style I wanted, the other? Still a great composer, but the music feels like it would be more appropriate in like, Crash Bandicoot.

He and Kirkhope are pretty much the Rare music masters, but they do have entirely different styles. Would be interesting to see them collaborate together on one large piece, though.
Megaman got a successor, Banjo & Kazooie just got one. When's Metal Gear and Silent Hills successors?
Megaman got a successor, Banjo & Kazooie just got one. When's Metal Gear and Silent Hills successors?
Once Metal Gear Solid V actually ends with its release and people feel like there needs to be a new one, and Silent Hill already has a lot of games, primarily indie games, out there that try to be homages and throwbacks. Whether they achieve that goal is entirely up to opinion.
Looks like they addressed Sift's main concern:
Collect-em-up 2.0: A roster of shiny collectibles with gameplay progression at their core (as well as other, more valuable materials). Every collectible type in our new game will expand gameplay in a meaningful way. Yes, we employ the man responsible for DK64's myriad of trinkets, but we've had a stern word. Our main collectible, Pagies, are used to unlock and expand new worlds in Yooka-Laylee.
Someone said they hope it doesn't turn out like Mighty No. 9... what happened with that that was so bad?
i don't understand the hate for mighty no. 9
All of the levels in MN9 look so unbelievably empty and boring, alongside overall gameplay not looking like a game that cost $3M
Care to explain? That made me curious.
Argonaut Games created the Super FX chip and helped show it off for Star Fox so indirectly the 3D enabled the playstyle the series is known for. Nintendo on the other hand used it in later games as a way of having much better graphical capabilities. AG owns the rights to the programming on how the chips work, meaning Nintendo probably can't afford emulation for those games....unless they paid through the nose. might be a bit too much for 3 or so well known VC games. Nintendo probably just settled down and used the GBA release of Yoshi's Island instead. EDIT: the whole Star Fox gameplay thing is all Nintendo per se, to show it off. not that Argonaut Games have any imput on how it actually plays. Nintendo was alright using similar formulas from 64/Lylat Wars and beyond.
With Mighty No. 9, there's a myriad of reasons. Besides Keiji Inafune not being as super influential as people think he is towards Mega Man, first it started with people realizing the game would be 2.5D rather than looking like the concept art that helped get the game backed alongside being a successor to Mega Man. Then people realized it focused on the dash mechanic rather than just buster. Then bullshit arose when someone who campaigned for a female Beck got to be in charge of the community forums and apparently did not do an admirable job whatsoever, among other questionable factors. Then they asked for PayPal donations to reach further stretch goals for dubbing and other factors, and without much warning revealed they were getting a TV series made as well. I'm sure there's other factors too.
But they are defunct.
global rights? wouldn't the rights go to head programmers, subsidiaries or have some sort of weird clause about the public domain?
Judging morals from another culture by our own cultural standards is a pointless endeavor. Stooping to personal insults like "lol ur pedo" by bringing that up is equally pointless.
Haha yeah ok there are some cultures that don't eat pork. Just because it is part of their culture doesn't mean it isn't dumb compared to the rest of the globe. 13 years old is objectively not mature enough for sexual activity, i don't care if there are some cannibal tribes fucking their daughters and they think that's normal, it's wrong. Yeah, let that continue to be a standard, because fuck progress.
Looks like they addressed Sift's main concern:
That's amusing :v: Glad they're still acknowledging how botched it was in DK64

Just curious, how do you guys know all the levels to MN9 already? I thought we have only seen some Alpha footage
Just curious, how do you guys know all the levels to MN9 already? I thought we have only seen some Alpha footage
There was a backer beta I believe.
Grant is going to E3! They reached $1,000,000. Just to note: On the kickstarter it says otherwise, but that is because it is in British Pounds, if you convert it to USD, it is 1mil.
Why is the kickstarter in ambiguously yooro monies anyway?
Why is the kickstarter in ambiguously yooro monies anyway?
Cause they are British.
Even if you don't like platformers, you gotta admit that music is sex. Getting good vibes of DKR from it. [editline]2nd May 2015[/editline] How many people find that things like art design and music can improve a game that might have less than super gameplay? I'm finding that even if I'm not enjoying playing a game for its mechanics, it can easily be made up by something like the soundtrack. Bravely Default is a good example of this.

Seriously? What fucking bullshit! Well I guess I'll just buy a Super Famicon and the game. [editline]2nd May 2015[/editline]

Seeing this makes be all warm and fuzzy inside, just as what A Hat in Time did.
For similar reasons, we will likely never get X on the 3DS Virtual Console because Argonaut Games made it.
Well, maybe if Nintendo had actually paid Argonaut for all the Star Fox 2 code they reused in Star Fox 64 they might not be so dead.
Well, maybe if Nintendo had actually paid Argonaut for all the Star Fox 2 code they reused in Star Fox 64 they might not be so dead.
Part of the reason though was that Argonaut Games decided to ditch Nintendo when Nintendo wouldn't allow them to make an N64 game based on Yoshi as a 3D platformer. Agitated at being turned down, they left their partnership and turned the 3D Yoshi concept into Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. After making Croc 2, they proceeded to make medicore game after mediocre game which is why the company is dead. They lasted all of the way until 2004, Star Fox 2 was not the only reason for their fall.
