I use the motion controls, way to awkward for me with the sticks.
Aiming with the screen is really awkward. Does a pro-controller work? I don't have one myself so i can't test it.
I didn't try the Pro Controller, but you can disable the motion controls and use the sticks.
No, but before choosing your weapon, press + and you can disable the motion control.
Words can't describe how much I love this game.

But this picture perfectly describes my feeling for the Paint Roller.
Bubble Shield is a god-send against Paint Rollers. My mains will probably be Paint Roller and Splattershotter Jr.
Ok, I have some more thoughts. The biggest problem right now is that you don't get to switch weapons after you know what map you're going to be on. It's crucial that this is possible in the final game because Saltspray Rig favours Rollers so much and Walleye Warehouse is much better for Chargers. You pretty much can't go wrong with Splatter on either map, but having that particular kind of support is so important. Whenever your team randomly gets assigned 2 snipers and no rollers on Saltspray Rig, you're basically guaranteed to lose because the map isn't close-range and linear enough for Charger to be viable and rollers can just run rampant and cover everything, taking advantage of the long-range cover all over the place. I think Walleye Warehouse is a much better map, it's a lot easier to be defensively-oriented when you've got 2 clear sides rather than Saltspray Rig's layout where the two bases are on one side and pretty much the entire thing is in contention. Also, it'd be nice if the gamepad minimap rotated based on where you're facing in the level, because it's hard to look down and in an instant get your bearings of where your team is dominating and where you're needed without stopping to think about it, and that's enough time to get splatted. You can't immediately tell where you even are and it makes it pretty hard to be aware of your surroundings.
Roller is going to be so overused when the game comes out.

Bubble Shield saved my ass against a few 3 vs 1 and the bane of Rollers indeed.
Though I decided to use Roller for the last matches and I managed a Super Jump into a kill. I felt badass.

Roller is Splatoon's W+M1.
But a lot more fun.
I think the proximity mine will swiftly put a cork on rollers not watching what they're doing. I think the Roller is less OP and more Nintendo didn't unlock a check for it in the demo.
It has been so long since I've played a shooter with a controller, aiming was so awkward to me.
Roller fixed that though, fuck aiming.
Unless your team is very well coordinated, I doubt the Charger will ever be a useful tool.

For all the content that is missing at the game launch, I feel the price I payed for my pre-order is very justified, given how much fun this game is.

It's map-specific. People will get better at playing defensively and covering areas as time goes on, and the charger will become more useful. People don't know how to deal with rollers and they get snuck up on, so they think rollers are OP.

Chargers will have different loadouts (sub and super weapons) alongside clothing that will enhance them.
People will come up with stuff that will make some loadouts pretty brutal. Especially the Chargers with faster charge.
Roller does have some pretty simple counters, the two biggest being either standing on a box that they will find hard to get on or just if one tries to rush you head-on, just back up in squid form then shoot.
Rollers are pretty easy to kill if you got a ranged weapon, at least when I played. As long as you're running away from them they can't catch up, unless you run into enemy ink.
If you let them within a certain range, they'll either reach you before your rifle can charge or you'll only damage them enough to kill them once they're close enough for the lag to fuck everything up and kill both of you. I'm assuming that will improve when I'm not being matched with Japanese players.
[editline]9th May 2015[/editline]
Like, if a Roller comes around a corner or sneaks up on you in squid form they're at a serious advantage. You can't usually loop back around them in squid form or run away because or their incredible paint coverage blocking off the path, and staying and fighting will inevitably lead to your death.
Splatoon was really fun, but man does it feel awkward aiming on a controller after not having done so for ages
I found myself to be enjoying motion controls actually.
Still another 5 hours till the final Testfire. This demo has got me so hyped for the release.
Why don't more companies release demos for up-coming games? Assuming you don't deliberately mislead the consumer, it almost always will give a surge to pre-orders. Hell, I bought Mass Effect 3 full-price because of the demo. The single player went to shit but I got my money's worth with the multiplayer.
I remember seeing an interview with the developer of Gunpoint where he was talking about how other people discouraged him putting out a demo so they he could get sales from people who don't bother to research games before they buy, It seems such a shame that some developers/publishers have this mindset.
I love the gameplay, but I don't exactly love the controls.
The gyro controls don't sit well with me, but the analog controls either feel too sensitive or too sluggish. I can't find a sensitivity right for me.

Nintendo of Japan announced it's fiscal marketing... there's no pack 3, sorry people. They really were talking about pack 2
[sp]Also if you're using a charger you're actively taking away from the team.[/sp]

It's bad because it's really not suited for Turfwars. The gamemode's scoring system is based on ink coverage, and when your job is killing and not spunking, you're gonna be doing pretty much jack shit for the team score at the end.
In the last Testfire I saw someone using a Charger get 15+ kills with it, MVP of their team, and they still lost.
The charger/sniper is the least fun weapon imo.
Maybe it's because I have horrible aim, but I imagine even with good aim it would be boring.

Considering having to aim it on a console plus the range of it being really lackluster, I can't really see it as a viable weapon. I haven't seen the Sniper's ability though, maybe it kinda makes up for it?

It makes up for it if you have extremely good aim, especially against Rollers.
But even with great aim and a good score, you still have to worry about covering the map.
[editline]9th May 2015[/editline]
I imagine in a competitive environment a sniper would be granted the task of dealing with the other team and making sure they stay dead, while the rest of his/her team focus on painting the map.
But in a pvp, I really don't see the point in playing sniper.
Being honest though, using the sniper feels like blowing out-of-date milk through a straw. I know it's powerful, but the visual effect and recoil leaves a lot to be desired.

I imagine it'll be the same for the rest. Inklings just move too fast and if you miss a shot you're still not contributing all that much. Like you can slice it that "I get a bunch of l337 kills with it" or whatever but seeing as that does nothing for coverage
Yeesh.

Splattershot Jr and others kill players in just about the same amount of time all things considered. High level PvP if it ever reaches that will most likely just be how fast you can move through the levels.

I'm actually expecting something like this, yeah. Those eyes on the shell things are identical to everything else in the Mario universe.
Question: does the bomb blast special ability just let me throw grenades rapidly? I didn't really notice a difference
