Crawl took Asteron's place? Shameful.

Hmm, what's this? Looks like the main cast aren't the only ones getting treatment in this series.

SHADOW IN HIS BIKE IN SASAR!?
Mania might take place on South Island if Green Hill Zone was any indication, although I doubt that continuity will play into it that much unlike the original Classic titles (sadly).

Well the big thing of the story seems to be time fuckery again, considering new routes and threats in Green Hill Zone. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's technically continuity, but it just doesn't care for its own placement in the series.
classic amy art

how she won't be playable in mania is an absolute crime

she's too busy being irrelevant
If nothing else I'm sure somebody would try making a mod for it.
Definitely doable if modding support is available, bonus points if it derives from E-122-Psi's series of hacks (which are all worth playing btw).
Of course there's the possibility as slight as it is of her being DLC in the future.
Dear lord, It's easy to forget how different Sonic 1 is from the later games, even Sonic 2.
Decided to play it and for some reason I just got my ass handed to me, and I'm usually pretty good with the classic Sonic games.
It might just be because honestly, the game isn't that fast. Or, at least it doesn't let you be.
Sonic 2, CD, and 3 all were pretty good about letting you go really fast throughout the game, sans maybe a stage or two, but almost every level in Sonic 1 seems to have something that'll fuck you over hard if you don't slow yourself down and be more cautious instead of reacting to things on the fly like in later games.

From memory, CD's mechanics (not the 2011 reimagined port) felt even weirder in comparison to the Genesis titles.
Besides a crippling amount of stages that don't take advantage of Sonic's speed though in 1 at the root of it all yeah there were a lot of obstacles that were absolute bullshit and slowed the pace of the game down even for downtime moments (see: the rotating tree trunks with spikes on them in Green Hill Zone Act 3 or the spikes in Labyrinth Zone and its Egg Mobile chase).

Completely missed the chance to emulate the Game Gear and its titles with that portable mini Mega Drive.
also: more classic amy stuff, this time being a mania stylized sprite

I wonder if those fans who screamed into the mic during the Sonic Heroes song were the masterminds behind sonicisreal.

Singer lends mic to the crowd, a uh... "very special" fan gets his hands on it as a result.

Also, someone incidentally further analyzed Project 2017's trailer and captured these interesting screenshots:

Very likely coincidental but damn those pieces of rubble do look really out of place.
[editline]July 26th, 2016[/editline]
If you didn't realize: the colors may or may not represent the playable characters this time around (i.e: Sonic, Knuckles, Tails).
Calling it now: the trailer's set in a destroyed Samba de Amigo.
I'm saying it's set in a destroyed City Escape.
Looks like a European rooftop run
That tumbler those screens are on is cancer :v:
I'm just so pleased that we're getting another Sonic game with CD inspired visuals and music.
Sonic CD is easily my favorite Sonic game art and sound wise.
I'm saying it's set in a destroyed City Escape.
Yeah, the buildings in the video and thumbnail look more like the ones in City Escape from Generations than they look like Rooftop Run, and the huge bridge in the background looks like the Golden Gate bridge from San Francisco, or Radical Highway as it is in Sonic Adventure 2.
It's interesting that they're using a setting similar to City Escape for the trailer, since they used City Escape for the e3 trailer of Generations and this isn't supposed to be a sequel in the traditional sense.

If it turns out the "past levels" bit isn't only referring to Green Hill Zone, we might even get a re-imagined level from CD on top of that.
It's a city inspired by New Orleans

I think I saw a PR Release or something saying the "reimagined levels" would come from all the classic games - 1, 2, CD, and 3&K.

Wikipedia and Sonic Retro's articles on Mania seem to confirm that as well.
I'd be fine with Generation's selection of levels (i.e: Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, Stardust Speedway) again but it would be really refreshing to see new takes on the others it missed.
