It frustrates me thinking about how one-note Mania will probably be. I don't know what the fuck is wrong with Sonic Team and moreso Iizuka but I don't see it's success motivating them at all, even to hire the same team again to do more. [sp]I just want the Hardboiled Heavies again[/sp]

Okay, I just want to upright ask at this point. Do you guys think Sonic Team never learns anything because they're genuinely incompetent, or do they just not care anymore?

I wholeheartedly believe that he has good intentions for the series but he's just completely clueless on what to do with it. He's openly admitted he doesn't have any intention of going back to what people want because he's got misplaced confidence in his ideas being the next best thing for Sonic. He comes off as the kind of dude that thinks he's way more talented in game design then he actually is and it's kind of frustrating.
You have Sonic 06 to thank for not returning to the Adventure formula.
The fact that they're determined to move forward whether it's a good idea or not while also constantly trying to relive the glory days makes for a frustrating combination.
You have Sonic 06 to thank for not returning to the Adventure formula.
I don't know why everyone think '06 should be the main reason behind this, everyone knows it flopped because it was rushed. If they had their time it would've been pretty good game. If Iizuka doesn't understand it then he's just stupid. Or Sega just doesn't want to give them enough time and/or people to make adventure-like game.

They actually hated the idea of making nothing but Boost games and really want to keep Sonic from stagnating; they see '06 as a strong example of what happens when they let the stagnating really rot into the series hard. From that point of view, Sonic Forces has the same problem. 4th boost game, headed by people clearly more used to their work in Colors and Lost World with new faces floundering about not knowing what to do, and tossed in a lot of safe bets and shit like Classic Sonic to try to make it sell at least.
fuck this game, am I considered madman now?

I can't even imagine doing blue sphere that many times.
Honestly, gameplay wise I really can't say I dislike Lost World much at all. It's not the best but it's more freedom than I've felt in most recent 3D Sonic games and that's pretty good. Stylistically though the game is bland as fuck. I don't really like the art direction. These villains are pretty awful too to be honest. I expected to dislike it a lot more than I am but I can't say I love it either. The gameplay at parts is just enough to be pushing it just above the mediocre point for me.

Let's hire a bunch of fans to make a 3D Sonic game and watch them do it way better than Sonic Team.
I mean the games not even out yet.

Not to mention considering the zeti are still around it means that sonic team actually had faith in the game... but with forces I feel like they might have laid off some devs behind the scenes or they might have left on their own with all those reused assets going on. its looking grim but until we get some mainstream reviews we can only hope.
Lost World got a lot of flack because it's a crappy Sonic game. The level themes are uninventive and pretty much Mario. Running around is so stilted and you can't really gain speed at all since Sonic loses all of it the moment he turns (combined with a pathetic speed cap, even when spindash-boosting). A run button that shifts Sonic between a casual strut and full running that basically is a nightmare to control in 2D sections. Physics don't exist, and the planetoid stuff doesn't really result in much interesting level design. Different paths and the Wisp power-ups usually resulted in skipping level design altogether rather than supplementing it, something Forces seems to be repeating for the Avatar's Wisp power usage. And the Parkour was a neat idea on paper but finicky since Sonic clings to anything the moment you hold the run button, and just sorta.. exists, since often the Wisps let you bypass the actual tricky parkour segments. And don't get me started on how the actual standard platforming often takes a backseat to entire acts of gimmicks. I can see why some like it, but I didn't. The devs were clearly trying to experiment with a new gameplay style and threw everything and the kitchen sink at the board to see what would stick. Most of it didn't, and Lost World's reception and sales were so poor (though being mostly constrained to the Wii U and released with no fanfare on PC didn't help) that the following game brought the same folks running back to Boost to get brownie points. I wouldn't be surprised if Forces was actually made from Lost World and reused code/assets from Generations liberally along the way.

(I don't get the anime reference, but Eggman referencing weeaboos and Shadow saying Anime was not a mistake is hilarious :v: )
Let's hire a bunch of fans to make a 3D Sonic game and watch them do it way better than Sonic Team.
The port of Unleashed to PC with Project Unleashed was incredible. I could see them doing it better with official resources.
There's also the guy making a port of Sonic 06 to Unity. While it's still Sonic 06 it's still better than the original.
It's a shame the person who worked on the Unleashed Project left the project. There are still so many stages left undone.

I really hope it wasn't another case of some petty drama happening behind the scenes that left the entire thing abandoned like I've seen happen so many times before.
The port of Unleashed to PC with Project Unleashed was incredible.
There's also the guy making a port of Sonic 06 to Unity. While it's still Sonic 06 it's still better than the original.
Honestly, 06 is one of my favourite Sonic games. The atmosphere and tone were tight, giving off that epic movie vibe and the music was fantastic (like most Sonic game soundtracks are) and most of all it was the last game before the boost generation where you could actually play as the other characters for once. My favourite thing is that you could even unlock the side characters in free-roam by getting certain ranks in all the town missions. I know it may not seem like much but it's quite a niche thing in such a badly received game. If this Unity port improves the gameplay and maybe even add some content for replay value it'd be fucking perfect. I look at Forces and really appreciate the other characters being involved and doing cool shit [sp]like Silver fighting Infinite and especially Omega having history with him[/sp] but it was just badly executed.
lmao imagine liking a sonic game for reasons other than its maze-like branching path level design, casuals amiright??? /s
I think you're giving 06 a lot of credit if the tone and the ability to play as other characters are enough to overlook the game's massive problems in basically every other aspect
