If I were to emulate Unleashed, which console version would you guys recommend?
Xbox 360 version, you can at least be able to get the model and animation files from it
Depending on how much trouble that is to emulate I might just pick up the game cheap and dig out my actual 360 from the deep depths of storage.
Second the choice to get the Xbox 360 version as the PS3 version suffers from occasional frame drops.
lmao imagine liking a sonic game for reasons other than its maze-like branching path level design, casuals amiright??? /s
What?

I think this is the current state of Xbox 360 emulation and Sonic Unleashed; I wouldn't know since I haven't tried any 360 emulators.
The level seems playable, aside from sections with invisible level geometry and audio cutting out. This person has a few other videos, and claims that the beta/demo of the game runs better than the retail build. It's possible that the full game doesn't emulate well enough to complete it.
If you want to play the game soon, it seems like it'll be better to play it on actual hardware than its current emulation state.

Already by reading the headline of that review all seriousness is thrown out the window.

The comments immediately went into "well you broke the street date to review a game that's going to have a day-one patch?" Kind of a bad argument, if the game really needs a day one patch then there's a problem as is but many other games out there get reviewed before a day one patch. The review also tackles the game's general problems of design rather than nitpicky sorts of things a patch would really be working at.

How, exactly?
Let's hire a bunch of fans to make a 3D Sonic game and watch them do it way better than Sonic Team.
Good idea, but is there a complete 3d sonic fan game even out there?
(SRB2 doesn't count because it's still not complete)

Would you count Sonic Dreams Collection as completed? :v:
I can't think of any completed 3D fan games, but there is the Sonic Utopia demo that was pretty popular last year, and a handful of other 3D Sonic engines that people have worked on/with.
We got engines, yes. The problem is none of them have been used to make a complete game.
All the footage released is rough
People that have gone to events said it plays rough and isn't that fun
The demo came out and showed that it's really unpolished/kind of crap
Reviews from people who got it early (official or not) have said it's mediocre at best
I don't understand the few people that go "but it's not out OFFICIALLY so you can't say it's bad yet!!"
Like, I wanted to love this game because I love Sonic but the writing is on the wall at this point. You can get it and maybe squeeze some blood from that stone but don't get mad when other people are nervously backing away from it.
oh fuck off steam with the 12pm EST launch time.
I cannot hold my anticipation for what will amount to the most spectacular game of the year.

Well, at least the game is almost out, so the defenders can quiet down and Forces can be put in the same pile as Lost World and Rise of Lyric where it's written off and eventually forgotten and overlooked like it was always destined to.
Why is it so difficult for SEGA to make quality Sonic games?

they forgot what the fuck a Sonic is

Sonic Team thinks that just reiterating a gameplay formula, regardless if it's pretty much the main reason people play the game, is something to be avoided at all costs.
Evidently they don't think that with the actual content of the game.
I think I've read somewhere that apparently they don't think they should be fans of their own products.
But if this is true and Mania is anything to go by, then Sega is clearly wrong.

Launch trailer is live apparently
Apparently the Polygon reviewer was a freelance reviewer who Polygon got to do the review solely because he got the game early and wanted to get the review out as fast as possible. The guy allegedly went into the game knowing he wasn't going to enjoy it and he never finished it.
Not trying to defend at best average game but people always jumping on like the one review is the sole collective gaming opinion.
it's polygon, they're shit no matter the game they review

Wow, this looks fucking awful. Low-res background texture and rectangular plane as ground in 2017.
Well this is weird, they're showing cutscenes from [sp]the fucking final boss and "saved the day" ending[/sp] without any context.
that's weird? It's a practice that's been done in the movie industry with movie trailers. So why not with video games?
Because if it's dumb as fuck to do with movie trailers doesn't make it magically ok to do with video games as well.
Putting the end scene of Amazing Spider-Man 2 into the trailer was so amazing, wasn't it.

There are two problems. Sega AND Sonic Team. Sonic Team is made up of 40 something year old Japanese people who don't care about the property they're working with attempting to figure out what 10 year old American boys like. It doesn't work out too well. They don't care about the property they have, they think the only way to make something look appealing is to make it stylistically bland, they either want to play it safe with their gameplay concepts or attempt to introduce new random garbage and have what works completely stagnate, they always give in to contemporary trends, they don't know what fans or kids want, they have no clue what made Sonic great and appealing. Despite the name, they are about as good as some random obscure third party developer who makes bad kids games.
SEGA is one of the most bafflingly bad and out of touch companies I've ever seen in my life, they have the greatest talent for making the most pointless and contentious decisions in the game industry. They need games rushed out constantly without understanding the needs of the developers, especially to those in the west.
