[t]https://i.imgur.com/dWFK1Bq.jpg[/t] Womp [editline]8th November 2017[/editline] There's a stupid bitch of an enemy near the end that refuses to lock onto my homing attack which would shave off another second or two.

I love how he immediately lost all the million rings he just got.
I think Sonic Forces' premise was too large for its own good. If you're gonna have a plot of Eggman taking over the world, don't just relegate this new setting to just talking heads and levels too quick to admire the scenery. Shrink that scope way down.
But then again, unleashed did the whole all over the world thing and the level design was very good?
But then again, unleashed did the whole all over the world thing and the level design was very good?
But it wasn't too scoped out, it got all the plot beats step by step. (The Plot is pretty easy to follow and all that.) Forces felt more like they had this huge idea but they had to cram it all in and reduce a lot of the scope before they meet deadlines. [sp]Chaos for one not having a boss or much of a presence in the game at all for one.[/sp] Has just left me with more questions than a resolution for the aftermath. [sp]Plus the time skip sequences are just annoying, it could've been great to see some sort of visual representation of what occurred after sonic was considered "dead" or something[/sp]
[sp]The time skips don't serve the story at all when nothing much is apparently different afterwards. Sonic is captured and supposedly tortured for 6 months, but when we get to see him he hasn't changed at all. He cracks jokes at Zavok like nothing happened. What's the point in the time skip? They save Sonic and then it's like he was never gone to begin with, it had no impact on the story.[/sp] Also [sp]Classic Sonic is just shoe horned in for no apparent reason too. He doesn't add anything to the plot.[/sp]
Wait, hold the fuck up. [sp]What the fuck happened to that scene from the relatively recent JP trailer where the Avatar gets fucking vaporized? It looked like the exact scene in the current game where Infinite tells him to run screaming, but he gets obliterated instead. And what the fuck happened with the constant hullabaloo of somebody dying in the game?[/sp] Something tells me this is gonna be a game with an interesting amount of cut content.

He gets booped by Classic and puddles away never to be seen. Ironic really. The unnecessary character boops another unnecessary character.[/sp] I feel like the devs got crunched by time because the big suits kept staring at them, tapping their Rolex.
Sonic Forces will be discounted to $24.99 on Black Friday at Best Buy.
If one game is to be called Mod Mania, then this one I feel is going to be called Cut Forces.
Honestly, it would've been a lot cooler if instead of Zavok, the Heavy King got sucked through the portal with Classic Sonic into Modern's world, still obsesses over the Phantom Ruby, and sides with/fucks with Modern Eggman to try and get it, and it'd create a meaningful villain for Classic Sonic to go after rather than do really pointless side shit. Also it would make the connection through Mania a tad more sound.
(Late Game Spoilers) So apparently Sonic can wall jump as well, but it's only included in this one avatar level at the very end of the game. When you mod Sonic in the avatars place, he can wall jump. I feel like the level designers had no idea what sonics move set was.

I hope after this game Iizuka will step down. I really don't know whose else to blame for a lot of the poor decisions that goes on behind the scenes.
I hope after this game Iizuka will step down. I really don't know whose else to blame for a lot of the poor decisions that goes on behind the scenes.
Could you explain to a newcomer like me?
I picked this up for 5 bucks and I still feel ripped off lol. I was actually kinda shocked at how "ok" I was with the first few stages but the entire last half just fucking crushed everything I thought it had going for it. Avatars awful fucking controls, lack of polish/sfx in what should be critical moments, Infinite's big explosive last stand being a *literal* reskin of Metal Sonics """fight""", the abundance of awfully dark ass stages near the end, the fucking *worst* camera I've ever seen in some of these stages. The list just goes on and on. Like in stage 25 (I think) my character is a Dark Green. The camera was zipping all over the fucking place while being super zoomed out so I had no idea where the fuck I was 80% of the time. Then whenever I did try to slow down to catch a glimpse of where I'm at I'd get 1-shot by a insta kill laser or fall into a pit because how fucking dare I try to control my character in the air. God this is either a 3/10 game or a 4 if I'm being generous.
Could you explain to a newcomer like me?
Iizuka is the dude that's been around since 3+K (possibly earlier). While he was moderated and left in check with other people some alright games came about. I forgot when exactly but Iizuka eventually became the only guy in charge of the entire franchise and the games are what *he* wants and *only* what he wants. There is no open discussion and when people tell him what they want he ignores them wholesale because he honestly believes that his vision for the series is what the character needs. He's gone on record saying that he has no interest in giving fans what they want (older adventure styled games etc) because "that would be a step back". tl;dr: You know how people attribute everything bad at Nintendo to Miyamoto incorrectly? Imagine that only it's 100% true.
I find it hilariously bad that they have the audacity to make the world map an a entire planet while [sp] almost all of the levels are either texture swapped green hill and chemical plant from Generations or a couple generic towns [/sp]
Final boss spoilers, but that [sp]Nega Wisp robot thing...I mean, seriously? Can't even come up with an original final boss? And where'd Eggman go? And Infinite's final fight was a damn reskin, a RESKIN. Of the Metal Sonic fight from earlier. And no Chaos fight was a cop-out.[/sp]

The games not perfect but for fucks sake you spent $5 on the damn thing and still manage to complain about what you got in the box.

Like some little kid's first generations mod. Graphically this game is ugly, and a lot of its animations are really stiff. Some how Sonic Unleashed is nearing 10 years old and is still the best looking Sonic Game in terms of art.

The game graphically is astounding, save for a few moments near the end.

The games not perfect but for fucks sake you spent $5 on the damn thing and still manage to complain about what you got in the box.
My dude, you gotta back down a bit, you're moving the goalpost literally every time someone else chimes in on the game. According to you I'm not allowed to think the game is bad because we just have trailers going on. Then I'm not allowed to think it's bad because the demo was bad. Then I'm not allowed to think the games bad because despite the game leaking "it's not officially out yet". Now I'm not allowed to score it because I thought it looked bad? Dude come the hell on. I even started out saying I was shocked at how alright I was with it when it started out and was fine. I legit sat on my couch at one point and thought "well this is embarrassing- the games alright. It's not bad but it's alright." The list of problems from a gameplay standpoint is baffling. The first half of the game was a insanely mediocre experience that I still found SOME enjoyment from. It had frustrating bits in it but it was still playable. About halfway in (and especially the last handful of stages) the quality just nosedives immensely. Without going super into detail unless you want me to -There are parts where the game gives modern boost capsules and if you use them the game auto kills you for using it -A astonishing lack of polish with sound effects and animations. A ton of shit just feels like it lacks weight and power to it. Characters fighting in cutscenes half the time look like a child slamming toys into each other. -The controls on the Avatar stage are some of the absolute worst controls I have ever had the displeasure of going through. The side scrolling segments control about as well as a person hurling a brick through a window. The momentum when you leave the ground is unstoppable and just feels awful. -Stage 25 is a nightmare of bad game design with the entire screen being pitch black and the camera zooming out so far that you can't even see yourself half the time. Stage 25 is so bad I'm giving it a point all on it's own. I hope to god everyone picks bird so it could be slightly easier. -Story beats are horrifically unsatisfying. Infinite, in particular is horribly handled in that there's no actual closure with him. Let's not get into the ending that lasts all of 10 seconds and says *nothing* -Can we talk about how the entire game re-uses the same 3-4 stages forever? That's a thing. There's sunset heights, chemical plant, green hill, space and uh..... like one stage in a forest if I recall and that one city area? Not much. -How about the lack luster bosses? Or how bosses are just reskins of each other half the time? Or the final boss is literally a reskin of a previous games boss just with a different name tag? Man the game is trash and I can keep going with all the flaws in it if you really want me to. It's by no means a 8/10 or a 7/10 because it is in no way above average. I'm going to give it a 3 or 4 because it's below the quality standards that should be accepted.

Run the Photoshop "Cloud" Filter over its textures Set Blend mode to "Lighten" [t]https://i.imgur.com/d38pC9k.jpg[/t] And the first 2 levels are both equally that lazy. Not a great hook for a next gen game.

But look at the entirety of Metropolis and Egg Gate and the forest stages I mean christ those stages are beautiful.
The only stages that looked good were Metropolis and the outside parts of the space station levels. Everything else was either bland or really weirdly dark/black. Least that's my take on it. [editline]9th November 2017[/editline] I watched RSSLiam tackle stage 25 and I'm still in disbelief how poor the readability is. Aside from a few bullshit moments (which I was able to circumvent with some strategic stomps) it was actually really fun to play. I think it's meant to test your skill with the wisps. I used the lightning one and it made it really easy.
I already beat the game, now i'm trying to S-Rank the remainders and jesus fuck the second half of the game gets annoying when you're doing no-death runs. Cheap enemy placement is the tip of the iceburg, one stage literally gives you boost right before a "boost to win" section, except one wrong move and you instantly die because the turns have no railings and are obstructed by enemies blowing up everywhere. The readability issue above is currently biting me in the ass alongside the fact that the Avatar might as well be wearing ice shoes without certain wispons allowing them to stop on a dime; run too fast and you lose control of your character, but run too slow and you barely cover any distance with a jump. You know, just like Lost World. Boy howdy does the [sp]Void Wispon[/sp] completely break the game though.
I kinda want to challenge myself to rewrite the game's story in one day and see if I can do a generally better job than what SEGA pulled off in four years.

You know there's a serious problem when a game made by a bunch of fans (Sonic Mania) it's the complete superior game in every single way. SEGA better keep their word when they said they will use Sonic Mania's reception to determine the future of Sonic in some way.
