SEGA better keep their word when they said they will use Sonic Mania's reception to determine the future of Sonic in some way.
"We listened to what the fans wanted, and what they want is more Green Hill Zone and Chemical Plant Zone!"
Hypothetical: If Sonic Mania 2 came out would you still play it if the team tried bringing back the worst levels from the old Sonic games and tried making them good?
He's gone on record saying that he has no interest in giving fans what they want (older adventure styled games etc) because "that would be a step back".
As little faith as I have in Iizuka, I gotta agree with him on this one. A game based on a lot of the concepts of the Adventure titles would be a disaster. Not until they fix the core problems with 3d Sonic, the ones that stemmed from those games, will they ever make a fully satisfying game.

Mania's versions of Oil Ocean and Metallic Madness are proof that even bad zones can still be good with a little care and actual fun level design.
Hell, Mania OOZ included elements of fucking Sandopolis of all places. I should hate it with a burning passion, but I don't.

i just want sonic mania 2 to have 100% new levels. they were the best ones in mania 1

Oil Ocean was never a bad zone though?

Plus Metallic Madness's Remixes are baller as fuck and generally was my second favourite returning zone in Mania (Next to Stardust Speedway, Yeah i love CD's presentation a lot.)

Plus the rapping is actually conveying the story at hand with Sonic being Act 1 and Eggman being Act 2. I could go on for hours on how much CD has influenced my perception in Art Direction and all but i'm gonna save that for another time.
Beat the game, went in with zero expectations but was a bit surprised to find it to be decent. The game is comparable to a flat soda, not terrible but not what you really want.
[sp]Also so like does Infinite just kinda fuck off at the end? The hell he go?[/sp]
Though the game was lip synced for english voices like the past few games, I opted to have my playthrough in japanese and while I don't actually know japanese, Pontac and Graff definitely altered some lines. Given how awkward the writing is to begin with I wouldn't be surprised if it was just rearranging things to work better in english for the most part, but I recall Knuckles saying the equivalent of shit ("kuso") in one level.
And of course Sonic has his gratuitous english he flings around on a dime.
I feel that if the game doubled its contents, it would've been way better received, a good game with a few hiccups.
Way under-developed, and the short yet recycled levels seriously hampered the overall pacing.
I suppose Force's discussion will be limited... since nobody is sharing their OC and all.
Here's to an empty next year for our blue hedgehog.
I wasn't fond of how the soundtrack for the game was comprised of almost exclusively rock and synth. I was enjoying the diversity of genres and styles used for previous titles like 06, Unleashed, Colors, and Lost World. The final boss themes were also lamentably generic and forgettable, which is a real shame. Speaking of which, am I the only one bothered by the shift from minor to major that seems to be a hallmark of a lot of final boss tunes? The music will oftentimes begin in a minor scale, signifying desperation, drama, or menace, only to transition into major as hope or triumph sets in. This kind of composition would work if scoring a set series of events in a film or cutscene, but this is a boss battle, the tone of the music should be consistent throughout.
I typed up my review on my site http://www.creep-score.com/reviews/sonic-forces-review/
I am really dissapointed. Being a Sonic fan from the first game, it's sad to see them screwing up so much.

I think I would actually be more down with that than just them bringing back more fan favourites. I'd love to see them remaking the levels that could really benefit from a reimagining as opposed to Green Hill zone or Chemical Plant for the umpteenth times.

I took advantage of the "leave us a note" question to just leave my thoughts on where the series should go and accidentally wrote out an entire review/manifesto oops
I wonder if Mania was the reason for script changes, considering this game was in development for longer with Mania having less development time, I'm curious how much the plot may have changed because of it.
I'm kind of in the believer camp that it was Boom! Sonic instead of a avatar and that wound up causing the rewrite/reworking.
I kind of refuse to believe that this is a game with 4 years of development time
So the Lightning wispon is kind of overpowered. If you just keep swinging, even boss attacks [sp]besides Infinite's Phantom Ruby cube waves[/sp] phase through you. This is extremely cheesable.
Also I S-ranked all 30 stages, albeit at great pains since I feel the end game just ruins your S-Ranks with bullshit around every corner. Having to do [sp]Iron Fortress[/sp] so many times because I basically need the ring bonus but the devs put in incredibly mean cheap shots at the end is just not fun at all. Now I need to find all these Red Rings, because they're hidden so extensively around some of these stages that it's ridiculous and I still can't find some.
Why did they waste time writing a story when 90% of it happens off screen and various characters just tell you things are happening.
hey I actually like the radio chatter, especially in Episode Shadow.
Not a fan of the resistance army tho, I highly prefer notable characters actually risking their neck, like Omega.

Sonic should be taking cues from the classics presentation wise, they're the perfect template. Especially the music, it's a crime how they've never returned to the classic Sonic style.
i always wondered how it'd work to put sonic into the 3d collectathon environment. mixing both genres together into a more fast-paced 3d platformer
Play Super Mario Odyssey and find out!
Play Super Mario Odyssey and find out!
not even close to what i was imagining
I'm honestly not sure how a modern sonic would work as a collectathon that isn't like Odyssey with it's speed/movement options.
I mean if Sonic went even faster then Mario does at his max speed then he'd be a pain in the ass to control. That and Mario does kind of have a drop dash and spin dash in Odyssey so :v:
Unrelated but is it me but is Sonic (classic) in Forces unreasonably slow? I feel like he can't even make it up some of the slopes they put out for him because his max speed is just so sluggish. There was one loop I tried to go through and I recall getting to the top and his momentum just ended so he went into his idle animation and fell to the ground like a brick
Here's my opinion of the game based on what I've seen of the gameplay and story:
-The story reeks of numerous rewrites.
-Classic Sonic was clearly a last minute addition
-Stages feel like they were chopped up to artificially extend stage amount.
-The game is currently kinda buggy (though nowhere near Sonic 06 and Rise of Lyric buggy)
All of the stuff above leads me to believe the game was very rushed and had a rocky development cycle. Overall, it doesn't seem to be the worst Sonic game, it looks okay to me, but it felt like it could have been much better/much more then what we got.
Is the game buggy? I haven't encountered any during my 9 hour playtime.
Is the game buggy? I haven't encountered any during my 9 hour playtime.
Classic Sonic has some wonky physics (I'm not sure if that counts)
Some Modern Stages have broken rails (gives you boost capsules but kills you if you use them)
Some avatar stages I clipped through stages and died (I was going to die anyway in those cases granted but was still silly)
If you wanna count those
Finally finished the story... This game had so much potential, they got great music and story idea is not bad either and yet they still fucked up... This is the most disapointing thing about this game. It could've been so good... I can't say it's bad either, it's just meh.
I really want to know what the hell went wrong during the development.

Make sure to write in Big the Cat as your favorite Sonic Character so that maybe we can get a full release of Big the Cat's Big Fishing Adventure 3. :v:
