So I'm starting to remember some stuff so I did a little search and here we go: WARNING, GAME SPOILERS AHEAD July 2016: [t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C_91LRSU0AAaS84.jpg[/t] April 2017 (screenshot is not made by me): [t]https://images-ext-2.discordapp.net/.eJwFwdtugjAAANB_4WFvwFwNjSZmoVzcRWANRmUvBKGWNpZWWsZl2b_vnF9r6O_W1mqNUXrrukxUlGinYbqWfVMp5XTEuA75GNM5jjI6-4mfBrD2A6mjsL9imqdx-lklz_aSefZPXQLxNpBvfoaeCk8DecFjly2ST8sDFpOBX6IuqLkdhBba2KsKMp9NkfARx1E45-V8QaCNc4QnhCUBDbh1x7LhBiabsX7XwUE5Cw_RIDbsuM9KJB_3pSyyE1DD_kpfR9aYdrdar8FTSxhtzc6D0Pr7B1gYT6g.lt72J0ogUoY6Lmh71C6PadaqVuY[/t]
To be perfectly honest, the premise of the story was good, but in classic SEGA fashion, the execution missed the mark entirely.

So that's where all the budget went.
Not gonna lie. I think it would be fun to play a Modern Sonic stage in first person VR.
Sonic Dreams Collection was prophetic after all!
Not gonna lie. I think it would be fun to play a Modern Sonic stage in first person VR.
He's not wrong. I played some VR mock-up of a first-person Sonic game the other week and, as a general concept, it's pretty fun. It responds really well to a running motion you can make with the motion controllers and it's a blast running at those speeds in VR. Buuuut whatever mess they're cooking up probably won't resemble anything close to that. The very concept of Sonic (gotta go fast) conflicts with so many fundamental design principles that govern AAA VR development. It wouldn't surprise me if it's a wave shooter. Probably with shadow the hedgehog so you can use guns. More likely (and hopefully) it's just a way to play a Sonic game in VR from the regular perspective.

Man now I'm bummed out. I made that same video a week or so ago but kinda forgot to post it. Ah well.

Super Sonic is pretty useless considering how small the stages are so it's not a big surprise that they have moved it into a separate DLC and disabled it.
I think all of his animations besides the jump are reused from Lost World, too.
Forces being built in an engine that's built off Lost World's engine that's trying to replicate Generations and such is just the most fucking bizarre shit to me. Why not just use Generations as a base?
Forces being built in an engine that's built off Lost World's engine that's trying to replicate Generations and such is just the most fucking bizarre shit to me. Why not just use Generations as a base?
Because it's the Lost World dev team and new faces alike. It was probably easier to just modify Lost World since they were more used to its design/structure than to go back to 2011's source code and so forth for Generations.
Turns out that John Carpenter is a fan.
Stopped reading right there.
Just because there was a good game recently doesn't mean the bad ones didn't happen
Stopped reading right there.
It has though.
I don't disagree at all, but I'm tired of seeing almost every single article dickride the bashing. It's just overdone at this point and feels tasteless to go "we all know Sonic has really sucked lately" before saying anything about the series. Like, this article could've omitted all of that and still read perfectly.
[t]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DOTpa0MU8AEn-KX.jpg:large[/t] Here are my dumb oc's I made since nobody is posting theirs. I'm not going to use even half of these things, I just like messing around in the CaC.
Looks like they've already announced a sequel to the game, such a bold decision! All joking aside; Aaron Webber has stated that there aren't any plans of custom character DLC, which unfortunately means this isn't hinting at the potential to make fan characters that resemble famous Hollywood celebrities.
I don't know how anyone can come away with positive feelings about forces, I understand liking the franchise and trying to be positive about it. But its just so poorly put together and for want of a better word. Bad. At best its fine by 2009 standards.
I have some enjoyment from the game, but that's mostly with Modern Sonic and Avatar content. I still have plenty of anger and frustration too, and I avoid Classic Sonic as much as I can.
I find it more enjoyable than Lost World, but it isn't much if that means anything.

IGN gave it a 6.9. Pretty accurate to my opinions as well. [editline]10th November 2017[/editline]
I can see someone who enjoys modern Sonic games liking it, because it has all the same crap.
As someone who still plays Generations as a main game and with Unleashed project frequently to speed run through the stages, Forces modern sonic sections disappointed me greatly (for the most part). First off, the removal of Drift and utilizing slide and light speed dash were great disappointments. Most turns were automated which was a huge shame, especially when some of it could have been driftable. The quick step also acts strangely. In Unleashed and Generations the quick step would lock you in the middle of each pre-determined section of a lane (usually). In Forces there will be moments you can quick step but you greatly overshoot the lane you want to be in. This is kind of confusing to explain, but I felt it's impact and made the stages and getting red rings more annoying. The homing attack is not as consistent, it just doesn't feel as responsive. The air boost was definitely the most fun and I hope to see it return in the future for fun cheese moments. The 2D platforming was actually a lot better than Generations 2D platforming imo. He just doesn't control as tightly as he did in Generations. The avatar had a lot of interesting concepts and it's still fun to go in and explore and use the different wispons but if anything I would rather it have been tied to Sonics current abilities (the lightning is literally just the light speed dash). I just want a game where you only play as Sonic where the boost controls are tight and perfected and no wisps. Take Unleashed, removed Werehog, replace it with more daytime stages and call it a day.
Hell, I would've taken Modern Sonic and the Avatar if they both got better levels and more refined mechanics. Classic Sonic basically has no place in Forces, and with some basic tweaks (maybe replacing him with the Avatar), it's not even hard to omit him from the plot entirely.
Whoever invented Stage 28 deserves the death penalty tbh.
IGN gave it a 6.9. Pretty accurate to my opinions as well.
Other day I was wondering how many game review sites were going to give it the damning score of 7/10 so of course it would be IGN. The games nowhere near a 7/10 because that implies it's really above average. And it's not. This isn't aimed at anyone but its why I'm glad numbers are dying out. 7 has become the new "Mediocre" number and it's literally impossible to use a scale properly. It feels like it's a system in place to not hurt game devs precious feelings instead of give a honest scale on the games standalone quality. 5 should be the baseline that it's playable and has alright presentation and then go up or down from there. Sonic Forces is hampered by a shit ton of awful game design choices and really, really bad game mechanics so I don't see why it would go up from the mediocre line when it deserves to sink down.

Scoring in general kinda sucks but I think that the biggest problem lies with the /10 scale.

Talk about how much Forces is a massive step back, a utter disappointment and so on so forth and then give it the exact same score. Or say folks that give Mario Odyssey a 8/10 or 9/10. You really think Forces of all games is just a single point away from a game like that? Really? I think numbers are fine if they're used right (saves a lot of time to just slap a number and move on) but they rarely are and that isn't even going into the whole buyers remorse shield that some people have (once again not pointing fingers here) where people hate being told the game they got is sub-par because it would be considered a waste of money or that they'd incorrectly assume it's not okay to find enjoyment from a game. The gamesphere is so bizarre about numbers that I can't help but look forward to them being gone and instead have a simple "Yeah I'd say pick it up" type tagline. Sonic Forces is a low game to me and one I would turn friends away from when asked. I'm getting 100% (until I get frustrated and give up) but I'm fully capable of admitting that it's really not good. I said it earlier in the thread that some people can squeeze blood from this rock.
Make no mistake about it, this game is unequivocally bad. The level design is amateurish and inconsistent, with no coherent buildup in skill or difficulty. Moreover, this was probably one of the easiest Sonic games I've ever played, even on the laughably misnamed "Hard" setting. On most stages, simply pushing forward and holding boost will net you a win, or even an "S" rank, especially with the farcical daily bonus. Even though I'm sure it has its fans, this game's soundtrack is probably the worst of every mainline Sonic title to date, and I'm completely astounded that the same guys that composed the previous titles were responsible. It's not all dismal, however; I would be remiss to ignore the scant positives. This game probably has the single best portrayal of Dr. Eggman in the official canon, complete with persistently sinister dialogue and actions. Even his mechs are uncharacteristically ominous in their aesthetics, and while I'm never particularly fond of Egg Pawns, their drab and soulless features in this game soften how bothersome they are to me. Even the Buzz Bombers, a staple of the franchise, are devoid of the facial features that normally endow them with the quirky presence of a wind-up toy. With those faces replaced with a singular red optic sensor, they're now evocative of cold and characterless machines. On that same note, the story is also refreshing in concept, borrowing heavily from the tropes used by SatAM--it's simply a terrible tragedy that SEGA's penchant for mangling good ideas marred what could have been a resounding triumph.
