No. I'm excited too, especially since it's the team behind Sonic Colors and Generations. There's not much to talk about it, unlike Sonic Mania.
Am I the only one looking forward to project sonic 2017?
I am, as long as the 2 Sonics control the same way they did in Generations and it actually has more stages than Generations. Which had only 18 (counting both acts), or 25 counting boss fights.
But there's not much info out on it yet, aside from the trailer they released.
Anyone here a fan of the Archie Comics? I feel like the writers of the games could learn a lot from the writers of the comics.
there's a big difference between writing for a platformer game and writing for a comic that has to come out with a new arc every four months
Archie's done some good stuff recently but it's good in the context of a comic, if it was adapted for a game it would be mostly cutscene

Perhaps, but the apocalyptic environment from the Project Sonic 2017 trailer really reminded me of some of the warfare from the comics. Taking Eggman's threats a little more seriously and seeing him actually cause death(?) and destruction would be really cool and perhaps the change in direction the series needs.
I'm hoping that Ian Flynn doesn't write for Project 2017 and other games in the future, even if he's a bit better suited for the job than both Pontac and Graff.

This is something general-sega rather than Sonic related, but Sega has announced they've purchased the Thunder Force IP, with Thunder Force III going to be in the next 3D Archive set and Sega also owning this soundtrack:

Speaking of which, they said they'd be doing something with Thunder Force IV, but haven't said what yet.
Today just so happens to be the day that Sonic CD was first released in Japanese regions, and by extension when Amy and Metal Sonic were first introduced.

I don't know what direction I want Sonic 2017 to go in. Heroes/Generations/Colours/Unleashed writing was so cheesy it hurts, but Shadow/Heroes/Adventure 2 writing was so edgy it hurts. Whose idea was it to bring in the Happy Tree Friends writers of all people for Sonic games anyway?

I don't find Heroes or Unleashed to be nearly as extreme in tone as either the Pontaff Triplet or Shadow. Adventure 2 was only pushing it but still didn't step that far, even when you had stuff like government cover-ups, a scientist going insane while contemplating global genocide and getting executed by a live firing squad; at the end of the day though, it wasn't really all that explicit and was uplifting by the end of it all.

Ask SoA and / or Sonic Team, they might've remembered why the hell they went with that decision.
I'm hoping still that they either get the writer of Unleashed (Kiyoko Yoshimura) or the Storybook series (Shiro Maekawa) back.
too slow
I'm glad at least that Sega is having a team people are confident in handling the retro side of things, while Sonic Team handles the next big main game itself. It helps instill confidence in the franchise's future, even though a lot of their stream stuff was a mess. The biggest problem to me that they shoehorned Classic Sonic into another game, but maybe there's a reason for that we'll find out eventually.
Then again this is pretty much just echoing the sentiment from right after the event. On terms of personal wishes it seems the game's aiming for a serious tone involving Eggman doing some real damage, but so long as it doesn't lose its mind (or have yet another destructive god that backfires on him) I don't mind it. For as whacky as he is thanks to his VA's excellent performances, no one takes Games!Eggman seriously anymore what with his foolhardy confidence in his plans and his constant failures - even in Colors, where he had his most foolproof and threatening plan short of blowing up the Earth and it all backfired because of some unforeseen circumstance no one in-universe saw coming.
After he went omnicidal in Generations and then lost handily to two Super Sonics and became more of a back window dressing in Lost World, the Egg needs a more evened out domination this go around in my opinion.

Even with Eggman's VA pulling great performances when acting wacky, I'd still say his best were when he was in a serious tone. Hoping they go with that for 2017.

a little late but eggman is based, he doesn't get the love he deserves
I always wanted a game where you play as eggman, building up armies and robotic bases, conquering civilizations with them, maybe like a strategy game or something
at least we'll always have adventure 2

This still has boggled my mind for quite some time now: the AoSTH incarnation of Robotnik got a game for himself, so why not game doc?
The RTS genre would be a perfect match for a game centered around Egghead himself, and I would really like to see locations from the games themselves return (i.e: the numerous islands, Station Square, Central City, and the various other nations from Unleashed) whilst giving a really good reason why they should be incorporated beyond just world building.
So I was fucking around and mistakenly went into big picture mode on Steam, to my surprise I noticed that Sonic Generations was listed as recently updated. Apparently some DLC became free for everyone, and I was bored, so I turned on the game to play some. I only played a friend's copy of Generations back when it released on PS3. Playing it today at 1080p and 60FPS, holy shit. It's stupidly smooth and the game actually has good controls. That shouldn't really be listed as a pro in most games but in most recent Sonic games I feel like Sonic just runs too quickly for the controls to be tight and responsive. I don't remember the game feeling as good as it did and ended up playing the entire game. After doing so someone recommended a mod that actually adds every day level of Sonic Unleashed to Generations.

Man, playing a good modern Sonic game like this is gonna make me really sad if the new 2017 3D Sonic ends up being shitty. The series' quality fluctuates way too wildly for me to get excited about any new releases. The new game is coming out for PC as well as consoles, right?
Sonic Generations should have added more dlc stages
Sonic Generations should have added more dlc stages
This. Honestly, my biggest complaint with the game is that there's simply not more of it. Between how excellent the music and levels were in Generations, I'd have happily have shelled out big bucks for four or five new levels.

A shame that the only DLC that got added was honestly kind of meh. Great that it has such great mod support, though.
