unofficial fan port
unofficial fan port
Yeah, obviously but excellently executed. I loved playing through those levels.
More official stages in Generations would've been great, most of the replayability for it came from mods or just trying to beat my time/record in certain stages or trying to 100% all achievements. The gameplay itself felt so nice that replaying the levels was good fun once you got a handle of it and had more skills to work with.
The only thing I was iffy about was the final boss, skill point limits and the challenge acts. It was neat that the challenges gave you skills, art and music, but early game they also functioned as a bit of padding between eras.
Also, Arby's marketing has been really great this year.

Fan game in the works titled Sonic Utopia now has a demo out for those interested. It looks amazing to say the least.

Sonic Utopia is a hell of a lot of fun, might be one of the most enjoyable games I have played all year

This is one hella compliment.
I like the style and loose controls, but the non-existent level design ruined a lot of the fun for me.

Likely this wasn't supposed to be viewed as level design as much as it was a testroom like most games start out with when in development for tweaking physics and enemy behavior.

Actually all of the outer paths, and probably the ones in the middle ( I didn't go there very much ) lead to the goal post If you know what your doing, in a way its kinda like a 3D depiction of a sonic level you would find in the Classic Sonic series. Shay May Brought this up in Sonic Spitball, but alot of Sonic Level design can seem strange or random, and its up to the player to manipulate his momentum to find the fastest route through, the level design is so open for interpretation on purpose, That's what makes the game so replayable.

It's Desert Dazzle, the lost Sonic CD port stage and now reimagined as Mirage Saloon (while using some of the same assets from before, but now touched up)

Man I'm really excited to see if final fever or any of taxman's previous fan made stages will be remade.

You sneaky bastards.
Really loving the Wild West theme Mirage Saloon has going on, it's been a while since we had that.
A Halloween themed fan-game is out.

Nothing special but the presentation does look pretty neat. Oh, and a little nod to this piece of fan art with the "low light" ghost warning signs.
Mirage Saloon's theme has been released, although it isn't a clean rip.

It's going to be 25 hours long, due to daylight savings, and[sp]they may even play Sonic 06.[/sp]
I love how its even a joke to the devs at this point

You could easily pass that piece off as official Sonic Channel artwork.
Only problem: to my knowledge, the Japanese side of Sonic Team and SEGA left 06' in the dark unlike how the rest of their own subsidiaries make fun of it on a bi-weekly basis.
So that Lego Dimensions Sonic expansion that was released recently has some very interesting moments.
Wow, that Sonic LEGO Dimension looks really fun, too bad it's a bit too expensive.

I'm surprised that they made the expansion to be an entirely original campaign instead of just being a weird mixture of LEGO Star Wars + Generations structure wise (i.e: continuity for the former, and levels from the previous games in chronological order for the latter) or take ques from only the first and maybe second games in the series.
As for the game itself: its been a very long while since I've last played a LEGO game that I'm really not so sure the mechanics will hold up for me personally, let alone how Sonic's gameplay will transition in this title, and I'm not interested at all with the toys-to-life genre but I can still very much see the appeal for some.
Oh, and here's a really neat moment I wasn't expecting:

I don't know whether to be giggling a little bit, or just be kind of disgusted right now.
okay, there's obscure references to the old cartoons, and then there's obscure references to a random joke on the Simpsons
considering Traveler's Tales worked on Sonic before, though, I guess it shouldn't surprise me that someone there's a huge fanboy

that was like 20 years ago, I wonder how many people there actually worked on 3D Blast and R?

The madman in the Sonic Social Media Team at SEGA actually streamed the game:
