I had the Wii version. They cut some running stages from it and added more night stages or made the current night levels longer. I forget.

Added more. The stages were longer in general, but mostly due to the running stages being large swaths of massively open lanes half the time, while the night stages were technically compact in many cases but had several chained together to pad out game length.
Probably to make up for the hubs being downsized to menus and entire sections of the story/game being absent.

There are many differences between the PS3/X360 and PS2/Wii versions, including the removal of Empire City hub and the Skycraper Scamper acts, and a shorter Mazuri.
I wish I had a PS3 or a X360, so I could play the modern version. But I was kinda poor, [sp](that didn't changed, sadly)[/sp] and got stuck with the PS2 one.

This might've contributed further to the poor reception of the Night stages.
If you want the improved experience Project Unleashed offers on the PC, Play the first level like normal, then whenever the original game would have had a warehog stage, buy an actually good beatemup like Bayonetta on Steam and play any given level from there. After playing enough to satisfy your beatemup craving, play another PU level.

i played the PS2 version.
after the third time the game asked me if i wanted to continue playing, i took the copy out of the console and threw it away.
I gave up on Wii unleashed after I got a game over after dying to poorly controlling platforming sections 13 minutes into a night stage for the third time. They were just so bad jesus fuck I never want to go back.
I could always buy the PS3 or 360 versions but I really don't care enough at this point. Project Unleashed was more than good enough to satisfy my tastes.
Help
I really tried hard to play Sonic CD (my first Sonic game) but I'm just totally lost.. I know vaguely that I have to destroy the hologram and collect a time stone in each zone to get a good ending? but I find it so difficult to even control Sonic and it's really not like any platformer I've played before... any advice for a newbie?
What version are you playing by any chance? The original release and Gems Collection port are known to have slightly wonkier physics compared to the 2011 remaster.
Oh and do you play with a keyboard or a controller?

The Good Ending isn't some significant difference so don't stress it too much on your first playthrough. If you can handle the special stages, you just need to collect the 7 Time Stones by bringing 50 Rings to the end of a non-boss Act for access to the special stages and it's an auto-good ending. Going into the Past to destroy the Machine Generators (with the Metal Sonic holograms being optional) is the more difficult and game-long method of doing it.
Think of Sonic more as a ball than as your standard platformer protagonist, given that his physics are heavily influenced by his spherical style and momentum (at least for the classic 2D games).
I did not miss the special stages.
Don't bring them back.
Sonic Mania is fine, just not the modern games.

Some of the special stages are cool though. I quite like the Sonic CD and the Blue Sphere stages. The half pipe can disappear forever though.
Thanks.. using Steam Controller since it's all I have-- the dpad on Steam Controller isn't great so I'm undecided on dpad or thumbstick
I've never gotten used to the touch pads on the steam controller. Feels like shit on every game I've tried. I think the steam controller is just bad in general
Nice to know where the inspiration for the Riders series came from although here it obviously takes its ques from Tony Hawk's Pro Skater than anything else.
The video reminded me of how much I miss playing the "Bare Knuckle Grind" digital playsets as a kid, and how that was also an awful title for a game. I'd imagine it's impossible to find both the discs and figures by this point.
It's cool that some sort of project may have came out from the demo, but I would've liked to have seen Vision Scape Interactive's take on the games, too.
Are the only Sonic characters that have reason to exist are him, Tails and Eggman?
Are the only Sonic characters that have reason to exist are him, Tails and Eggman?
Every Sonic character have reasons to exist, they just need to show up only when they should.
Big the cat was not inherently bad character but he was attached to an awful plot and awful mechanics that not only made him tedious to deal with but also extremely annoying.
Big has to be one of my favorite characters in the series despite him not appearing often and how he was purposefully juxtaposed to the entire game he was first introduced in as a joke of sorts.
I really like his design, especially for how it differs from the other anthro characters and I find his incredibly laid-back personality to be pretty relatable; too bad he's become a doormat in recent years.

Well the creator did make a reboot episode, but he recently stated how he's in a crippling depression because Nintendo, as usual hating that their fanbase has genuine love for their ip's and would do anything to ruin that love, nicked his Patreon which was giving him motivation and income, so basically right now he's not working on it.

My friend had it on the wii and I had it on 360. It's not bad at all, I remember my friend thought it was really cool on 360, and I remember I didn't like it on the wii.
If I remember correctly, didn't the PS3/360 verson have a world to walk around in while the wii didn't.
Is it embarrassing to like Sonic?
Eh not really. I don't think simply liking Sonic is the embarrassing part. It's other things like unironically having OCs and liking the bad games thats embarrassing. :v:
Is it embarrassing to like Sonic?
He has a cool character design but unluckily stars in too many bad games.

None of that is even embarrassing; OC's aren't inherently bad and people no matter what will always have differing opinions of what they think of the series.
Is it embarrassing to like Sonic?
Depends on your social circle.
Is it embarrassing to like Sonic?
Nope. It's just sadly a magnet to attract terrible OC fanbase 95% of the time.
I like Sonic R.
I still think people make the game seem worse then it really is.
