I hope the metal sonic boss fight (assuming there is one) is a mix of Generations with a few elements from CD. The original boss fight was just a race that came down to whether or not you can outpace Eggman, while generations you actually had to fight him. Though it was too easy. I hope Mania does it like Generations where you have to race him on an infinite track but also deal damage to him while avoiding hazards like spikes.
That's exactly the reason why some people liked the Metal Sonic fight in CD: it wasn't a standard boss fight and was a very defining moment for the both the game itself and Metal's character. Making it just another "hit x amount of times before it can breakdown" kind of boss, while necessary in Generations, here it would just really remove the charm of the whole thing and miss the point entirely of what CD was trying to accomplish. Would like it though if there was some degree of interactability during the race (i.e: you can hit Metal to temporarily slow him down, just like how he can do the same to you).
Metal Sonic fight in Sonic CD I found to be much better than the Generations fight.
It's actually challenging, for one thing. There's a reason why Sonic 4 Episode 2, for all of its attempts at twisting old content into new ideas, ripped off the Metal Sonic race (though it's way easier and more scripted).
Sonic CD bosses were in general a breath of fresh air when compared to rest of classic series' hit eggman 8(16) times and you're done.
They're stupid easy though. You can cheese your way in the final boss of CD.
I'd personally rather have an easy or even cheesable final boss (literal Cheese vs. Advance 2 strats aside) than something like the Time Eater again.

I still dislike the decision to lock boosting behind wisps rather than rings. I don't think "boost to win" is a valid argument when there is a lot of skill and precision that goes into boosting while maintaining control for a fast time. Plus it gives rings an actual purpose other than staying alive, especially now since lives have been removed

Plus it gives rings an actual purpose other than staying alive, especially now since lives have been removed
From my observation.... It is now harder to stay alive as your character will lose the rings rather than drop them when hit. Defeating enemies also rewards boost, similar to Sonic Colors I think? I feel that they want to make Boosting being used as a tool instead of treated as part of default movement.
The "Boost 2 Win" sentiment is pretty much up their with "Sonic's Shitty Friends" in terms of how completely null it is. Unless you have extremely good reaction times, Boosting all the time is bound to get you faceplanting a wall at some point or worse killed and without the RPG / Beat 'em Up-esque system in Unleashed or the Skill system in Generations to increase the Boost meter (albeit meagerly or at a disadvantage, respectively) it's incredibly easy to use up. There's also some really cool stuff you can do when Boosting if you know what you're doing (as seen here); wish the level design was more open ended like that.
Abundance in boost might be too tempting to not use in almost all situations that doesn't involve precision. I certainly don't mind holding down the boost button if I am allowed (as if using nitro in a racing game), which will definitely lead me towards certain death, sure, but... go fast...! Do note that not all players are seasoned runners. I don't know, might wanna ask the focus testers. Maybe it is better if boost is reserved for situational use.

I was replaying sonic 1 and realized that green hill has so much effort put in then the backdrops for the rest of the maps are minimal and lazy, save for maybe scrap brain zone. I mean starlight zone is mostly just a black screen. I think this is why green hill is so memorable and the rest of sonic 1 is not.

The vocal tracks aren't half-bad (quite good in fact), but god, who reviewed the lyrics?
They just released a sample of the main theme with its vocals and lyrics by that guy from [sp]Hoobastank, Douglas Robb.[/sp]
The mixing is shit for sure. Overall... eh, I like instrumental version more.
Well, it ended on a happier note than the instrumental original, that's for sure. But besides the occasional voice backing moments, it really does sound more like a fan singing overtop of it rather than an actual established singer putting lyrics into the song.

Tee Lopes just did a pretty authentic chiptune remix of Mirage Saloon Act 2:
August 15th can't get here soon enough.
