Another speed-run of Green Hill was uploaded today.
Presumably Sonic Mania has leaderboards for speed-runs? Because I'm thinking combined with potentially online multiplayer races this game is going to get almost brutally competitive.
I always hated how you can't spin mid air as sonic. Like when you hit a spring you can't defend yourself if you land on a conveniently placed enemy.

Well that was fast.
Really wish the guy behind the Sonic:Epilogue comic would continue the series. I always loved the ideia of "What if the Freedom Fighters greatest hero was their biggest treat?".
I don't know I always loved the idea of a "Evil Sonic" even if the concept itself has been done to death. Like that one story in Archie where Sonic's Super Form becomes a separate entity and goes completely berserk.
Ok, so for the heck of it, what kind of OC you would create in Sonic Forces?
A black Cat with yellow eyes and a red scarf will be good for me.
If the game will let me, I'm going to do what I do in every character creator. Make an incoherent mess which is displeasing for people to look at, a handful of characters that I think look cool, and then remake a bunch of other characters.
I'm not sure what species I want to start with, mainly because of their special abilities, but I'm definitely making at least one of each of the seven.
There's already some really creative OC concepts out there with what was seen with the creator itself, this one courtesy of Kidknux:

Am I the only one who feels like Sonic's characterization in the Sonic Boom show is really... broken?
Like, it seems that they're trying to give "attitude" to Sonic, but it’s more of a grumpy and tired, fed-up dad than a rude teen.
OVA Sonic is more like “Do it yourself gramps, I’m working on my tan.”
Boom Sonic is like “Whatever, let’s just hurry up and get this over with.”
They’re both begrudgingly helpful, but in different ways. OVA Sonic has to be forced to help, Boom Sonic will jump at the chance to help but doesn’t actually want to. I suppose the variable here is having a sense of duty. OVA Sonic doesn’t have that, or is better at suppressing it. Boom Sonic acts as if he knows he’s the only one who can handle that situation, so he needs to get it done as quickly as possible. It's obvious he'd rather kick back and relax on the beach or go exploring than deal with these petty problems. I'm sick of seeing him in such a pitiful state.
Now, Sonic Boom has been flirting with the idea of making Amy a ~stronger~ character and she's been shown to have a much bigger sense of duty than he does. If Sonic's so fed up, then make Amy his stand-in.
I don't really think it's that big a deal since the show is primarily a comedy with little to no overarching plot. there isn't some grand elaborate scheme, it's just eggman every week doing some wacky plan that will backfire by the end of the episode. you could look deeper than that but the fact will still remain that the personalities were changed mostly to focus on humor

sonic being miserable is funny?
Presumably Sonic Mania has leaderboards for speed-runs? Because I'm thinking combined with potentially online multiplayer races this game is going to get almost brutally competitive.
.....until the top forty spots are 0:00.
sonic being miserable is funny?
humor is subjective, but I thought the happy place bit, which is just about sonic trying to relax, was pretty funny
calling him miserable is also subjective, as there are also points where he clearly relishes in the fame he gets from being a hero

A few copies are now out in the wild...
As the Sonic Retro thread put it, the potential and likely problem of spoilers are now possible, and that's the smoking gun as to why. If anyone wants to avoid spoiling themselves on Sonic Mania, be wary of where you look because all hell's about to break loose on info.

Agree, especially on Youtube with the thumbnails.
What can be spoiled from this game?
The same Twitter user says they are going to stream the game soon...

Zone selection, bosses, surprise/new zone elements (such as bouncy gel in Chemical Plant Act 2), potential unlockable content, etc.
The game is pretty rooted in fan service, so it's one of those kinds of deals where hardcore fans (who this game is aiming for) will want to go in blind. See this quote from someone on NeoGAF:

I just wanna say, I'm reviewing this game, I finished this game 100% earlier today after a few days of play - all Chaos Emeralds, all unlockables, etc - aside from anything that might be unlocked from Tails/Knuckles alone runs - and seriously, if you can keep the secrets, do. As an old Sonic fan I cheered and hooted out loud at some of the things in this game - bosses, zone selection, etc, plus the gimmicks in the new versions of old zones. I honestly think it's worth going in not knowing.
If you're a hardcore fan who will relish the little references or even the bigger ones like zone selection, it's worth seeing it first time in your playthrough. Even saying [zone x] from [game y] is in it and in Act 2 it has the [thing] from [thing] in it is a massive downgrade on actually seeing it play out via the act transition or whatever.

Alright, I can understand that.

But the collector's editions shouldn't have a physical copy. Which means if they have digital game codes, those codes aren't being prevented from registering or being played yet on the system if someone did manage to break the street date (or steal a box). Leak stuff has been from the Switch so far.

True, but it also means that Sonic Mania is already on the eShop, most likely because of review copies were given out already. So as long as you have a valid code, it'll go through. It's not like Xbox were it lets you register it un your account but won't let you play it until release date.

That's basically what i'm getting at, but it's a severe oversight on Nintendo's part and probably the first major title to have a problem like this.
Final Zone count for Sonic Mania so far seems to be [sp]8[/sp] classic zones and [sp]5[/sp] original zones, maybe or maybe not including the final act. This pretty much fits the spitballed 60/40 split of old/new content that was previously suggested.
The guy with the copy has played up until the 8th zone you encounter in the game, but I will refrain from posting more elaborate spoilers here out of courtesy. It's not too hard to find if you look on other message boards though.

Holy hell is it amazing

Turns out the Sonic twitter decided to officially post it. Still gonna link it for those who want to see it when they get the game
Hoping they just release the game early for the weekend that'd be nice.
Watched some of the leak stream and the transition between [sp]Stardust Speedway Act 1 and 2[/sp] was pretty amazing, [sp]Act 1 is the past version and after the signpost, you run past a Future sign (complete with the fucking ~future~ sound bit, and even go into the teleport load screen into Act 2 which is Present[/sp]
As fan of CD, this was fuckin good shit
Oh, and [sp]even though Act 1's music didn't have the HUEHUE sample, Act 2 does[/sp]
Hoping they just release the game early for the weekend that'd be nice.
Has a company ever done that before?
Hoping they just release the game early for the weekend that'd be nice.
It'd be a bit unfair to those who pre-ordered the collector's edition and have to wait to get it physically for their download code, though.
Speaking of, there's a few places still selling pre-orders for the collector's edition on console near me. I've been considering getting it, but at the same time I don't really have much opportunity to play games on console as I do on PC.
I've become some kind of hellish shriekbat after seeing the intro to mania
I cannot stop watching it. Omg

This was mentioned by the devs so it's not exactly a surprise, but it's still fantastic news! Sonic Mania is gonna be insane!
