Mirage Saloon 1 as Sonic+Tails is pretty passable yeah. I love Knuckles take on it though.

I don't know why they even brought the Tornado section back. You get hit once and lose all your rings with no chance of redemption, which is a flawed design in my book. Not to mention there is so much foliage around it's hard to tell where enemies are.
The boss is actually quite easy if you sit in the middle it'll jump at you from L/R R/L and never hit you. At least, it did for me.

I wonder what causes stuff like this because reality from all my runs is [sp]he usually just places things at complete random. Like every video I've seen and playthrough I've done he seems to love just killing himself as soon as possible.[/sp]

You were playing as Knuckles, that's why. Dr. Robotnik doesn't like it when he chuckles.
You can make fun of Robotnik's bad AI in [sp]Puyo[/sp] as much as you want, but as soon as I saw [sp]puyos start dropping down I started sweating as I remembered my attempts at playing Puyo Puyo Tetris. If his AI wasn't terrible I'd throw my switch out the window and scream about why the fuck someone decided to put a hardcore puzzle game in my platformer.[/sp]

Same game. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was a way for SEGA to introduce Puyo Puyo to the west back in the days.
I'm almost done with my second playthrough and only managed to get 5 or so Emeralds this time.
I have no problem replaying the game because it's amazing, but goddamn I just wanna get the good ending.
The rings are just too hidden imo. I've gone entire zones without finding them. And I saw several in Stardust but couldn't find a way to get to them.
I really didn't find the [sp]Mean Bean Machine[/sp] boss that hard to be honest. I'm surprised people have so much trouble with it.
I don't even Puyo and he never manages to fill up half of my screen before Eggman fucks up.
100% the game as Sonic & Tails, and now I just did it as Knuckles. It's been a long time since I've liked a game this much, wow.

You have to start a no-save run, then hit triangle (or other the other top button on other consoles), then choose it.

Withholding judgement since Sonic 06' actually had three writers on board so it kinda makes sense why that game's story was so jumbled together.
I'm more concerned with how Pontac-Graff will localize the game since they can easily slip in their style into the game's writing in the US and other English-speaking countries.

Rather apparent with Adventure 1 and 2.
Only 6 more Blue Sphere stages and I'll be done with that, then just need to beat it with Sonic (Solo), Tails & Knuckles.
