I may skip out on force. Classic Sonic is only in there to catch the people that liked Sonic Generations. Being written by someone who was a writer on Sonic 06, still no Chao garden, and knowing my experiences with Sonic Unleashed the OC character levels will overstay their welcome and become old fast.
Really would have just preferred they went with Sonic Generations 2 and make Tails, Knuckles, and their classic variants playable.

We have 2 years before the Sonic & Knuckles 25th anniversary, not that I'd expect them to make a game celebrating it in such short time with these two big projects wrapping up. But if they needed an event/celebration to market Sonic Generations 2 & Knuckles, they'd have that.
I'm still optimistic about Sonic Forces, though, even if it could end up having a bad plot or using the OC to pad out the game length, I'll probably find some way to enjoy it.

Sadly, I'm sure the game is going to sell well regardless of what people think, all because of the OC creator.

I doubt they'll do another Mania-like game for the celebration, but I can definitely see Whitehead recreating Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

This is killing me. All anyone wanted was a modern sonic game. Not all this extra stuff.

Maybe they think a solo modern sonic game wouldn't sell well.
the real lack of any innovation on the formula and instead just stapling new mechanics onto the same exact thing every time is really sad to see
Oh well, time to pester SEGA to release Sonic Colors on the Switch. That one was a good modern sonic game.
Sonic Color's only issue was anything other than Act 1 was just a "challenge" platforming stage. That was its 'werehog' or 'classic sonic'.
I just want a damn modern Sonic game that takes everything good about Generations with Colors and just focus on fucking Sonic and exclusively the BLUE (MODERN) HEDGEHOG.
The "modern sonic" stuff is great. It's challenging and fun to play and strive for a faster time. Make an entire game on it.

Unfortunately either Iizuka or someone at Sonic Team genuinely believes that Sonic can't subsist off of raw gameplay. Filler levels, extra gameplay styles, the Wisps returning over and over (because of Iizuka literally stating he wanted them to be a recurring power-up); they want variety so people have replayability and don't beat their games so quickly, but all it does is bog them down with unnecessary shit.
I'd love a big adventure where it's just Sonic's boost formula gameplay for more than just 9 stages, 4 bosses and 45 filler missions. When I played Generations I often found myself going back to modern Sonic levels more often than classic, and the times I'd play classic would mostly be if I was playing with mods that let me equip more skills or play as 2D Sonic in the 3D stages. I 100% completed the game (achievements and all) and the only thing that bothered me was the missions and their boss keys padding out the game-time in the early game.
That said though, I have no issue with the OC character, because from the clips we just saw, it actually looks kind of fun? Obviously they're banking on "Hey, look! It's your character, and he's SIDE-BY-SIDE with Sonic the Hedgehog!" But the play-style still looks like it'll be fun to me, and as long as there's more than 9 stages and an even split between Classic/Modern/OC acts, I'll be fine with it.
the main theme playing during double boost is rad as fuck

Give Unleashed a port on PC that has uncapped FPS and my life will be complete.
and I swear they are refusing to do a Sonic Adventure 3 because they know that is what the people want.

As long as they fix the Werehog sections, I ain't complaining.

they wouldn't, but maybe modders could
One think I appreciate Unleashed is that the characters are very expressive compare to the new games:

I also appreciate that ridiculous Eggman laugh.
Unleashed is incredibly underrated, especially for how it laid the path to Colors and Generations. The production values were insanely high too (see: the intro, in-game environments, extras shorts and NoTW) so it's really sad to see how the game on release was considered "eh" if not downright panned by critics, especially after how much of a travesty 06' turned out to be two years before.
I think the game would've benefited more if the PS2 + Wii ports were completely scrapped so that focus was better put into the ideal version of the game.
Unleashed had the best modern stages period.

This cutscene still is hype as fuck
Well to be fair, when 2/3rds of your game is Werehog playtime, you can afford to make the notably lengthy daytime stages actually have challenge and fun elements.
If Sonic Unleashed was on PC, we could just mod the night levels out and it'd be a pretty damn good game. :v:

Well people already have modded the Unleash day stages on Generations PC, so there's that.

Idk, I think tag team stage looks fun. And the theme music during boost is fucking rad.
Imo it's not sega who is too afraid of doing raw gameplay, it's most of the fans who are afraid of trying new gameplay ideas because sega has history of fucking everything up. I can't blame people for that, those are valid concerns but this attitude is no better than "sega should go back and only do 2d sonic games".

What? I think this is really cool, yea it's short as shit but having sonic run along side ur OC is something people have dreamed of.
I wonder if Tag Team Stages will be limited to Sonic/Avatar or will they mix things up with Classic/Modern and Classic/Avatar.
Or even other characters as a surprise, like Tails or Knuckles.

I'd be completely open to new gameplay, but I don't think that's what we're getting here. I don't think that adding the double boost or the gun truly adds much to the "run down this narrow path" gameplay that's been around for a while now. Sonic Team has fucked up doing new stuff in the past, but at least you can tell they fucked up from trying something new. Even with 06 you could tell that they were trying new ideas, poorly executed as they were. Here, I dunno. I just feel like they're playing this one extremely safe, and at best Forces will go down as "That one with the character creator"
I can't pass final judgement until the game hits, of course, and maybe the later stages blow me away, but from day 1 I thought "this looks like generations again" and today I still feel the same way. I don't feel any passion, any real heart in this, especially considering how you can feel the care oozing out of Mania.
On one side people want Sonic to go back to full 2D glory.
On another they want Sonic to focus only on Boost gameplay.
Over that side people wished Sonic wouldn't do the same thing every game and try something new.
That corner says they want Sonic's friends deported, those beside them clashed and protested.

Sonic fanbase is a mess. That's one of the reasons why Sonic Team can't find something that will please everyone.
I don't really care what direction Sonic takes so long as it's not retarded and the game(s) don't suck as a result. Forces just isn't hitting any positive notes for me at this rate, and the Tag Team footage's level design made me want to give up all hope for even caring about the game because of how godawful it is by Boost standards, much less Sonic standards.
I feel like if I ever play Forces I'm probably gonna be playing it on mute. The vocal songs don't appeal to me at all and the dialogue is just as corny as it was in Colours.
