I barely used the Drop Dash (I keep forgetting that was a thing) when I played Sonic Mania, so I won't have a hard time playing Sonic 2 HD.
I only ever did a drop dash right once on Mirage Saloon Act 1 That was also the moment I learned that you can drop dash right off the plane.
Sonic is built with the effects of the shields in mind, in contrast with Tails and Knuckles, whose second jumps are key to their playstyles. So, Sonic's standard "second jump" has to be something usable but also something he can do without. The insta shield and drop dash are quite neat, but both the double jump and the fire dash are better, and I'd even argue about the bubble bounce having some neat uses. The lack of any sort of second jump with the standard shield, or as Super Sonic, are kinda off putting. If anything, give Super Sonic the directional dash Hyper Sonic had (only without the smart bomb function, but rather just its movility component), have the standard shield allow for Drop Dashes and Insta Shield area of attack, and call it a day.
It doesn't help that Mania gave the Insta-Shield a severe nerf, in both invulnerability frames and range. It's almost borderline useless except in very special situations.
Okay I'll be honest and ask, how the fuck do you git gud at the Sonic 2 special stages? I'm assuming a lot of it comes down to memorization but god damn, I seriously can't even get the 3rd Emerald. I just feel like there aren't even enough rings in the stage because like, Tails might get hit twice and I still will make it to the end with like, 15 rings left needed.

In Sonic 2 Tails is a massive liability if you're going for the Chaos Emeralds. And even certain platforming sections, in that game and 3&K. The only tactic is to make sure he doesn't grab any to lose them.
It's not that bad if you're playing the iOS/Mobile version as they greatly improved the Special Stages there. Any other version, yes, don't use Tails.
I kind of hope that one day Sega releases Sonic 06 on PC and let the fans fix it up and make it into a pretty good game. Also I'm sure they could make easy money off re-releasing it and getting money from its following alone.

Sonic 06 is a fundamentally flawed game with a horrifically bad story. I don't think any amount of fan patches will ever make it not complete and utter garbage.
The DLC was the game patch. See: the Amigo DLC fixes Tails’ slow movement.

Translated script:
Test, test. Today is a sunny day. *clears throat* To the good, innocent people of this world. I am Dr. Eggman. A man with a miraculous brain who will become the new king of this planet. To the foolish Resistance or whatsoever. Stop any meaningless opposition and surrender now. 99% of this planet is already in my hand, and your admired hero Sonic was also defeated by my power. Put your weapons away and capitulate. You don’t have to follow the stupid echidna who can only think about fighting. If you come to my side now, I will promise you three meals a day with a nap time. And an underground prison… erm, *clears throat* I will be waiting with clean, warm dormitory. I am expecting a wise choice from you all. That is it. Ho-ho-ho-ho!
I hope Eggman has more announcements through out the game, the ones in Colours were brilliant. Maybe not as silly as those ones thought considering the tone of Forces but since this is the same writers (well translated by them not originally written by) as Colours you never know.

Can't say I see a bright future for it though since Gistix (the guy who made almost everything) has left the project right after the first demo got released and current project leader have some questionable background in gamedev. I'm not even sure if they have found a new full time Unity developer to replace Gistix or not.

Will be interesting to see proper updates, fixes and mods for the project.
Sonic 06 had some redeeming qualities, namely the music (although that's normally a consistent strong point). The Egg Gunners were also one of the best robot designs from the games; if they were black-plated, sported red visors, and featured actual hands or graspers, they'd rival the SWATbots from SatAM.

Especially for being just reskins of the original Egg Pawns that started in the Modern era. They don't have hands though and the original egg pawns do but still. Example comparison: [T]http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/sonic/images/2/29/Egg-Pawn-Sonic-Colors-IV.png/revision/latest?cb=20160510122812[/T] [T]http://orig14.deviantart.net/941c/f/2017/160/b/6/sonic_forces_custom_hero_screen_01_by_sonicx2011-dbc44yf.jpg[/T] They're not as good as the 06 Gunners but still nice. (There obviously isn't a render of the Forces models yet so that screenshot is the best I could find off the Pawns.)
using [t] Tags will be your friend with big images
using [t] Tags will be your friend with big images
Thanks, changed it now. I never usually add pictures on Facepunch and thats the first big ones I've posted, I didn't know you could make them smaller.
I guess they're quite literally Egg Pawns now. :v:

The very first enemy in the franchise is a goddamn ladybug with wheels, FFS.
Boy howdy do I love it when I get shoved through the floor by a pillar in Aquatic Ruins.
Sonic 06 had some redeeming qualities, namely the music (although that's normally a consistent strong point).
Sonic 06 had a small handful of good tracks, but not many. Plus there was that one track that blatantly copies Metalman's theme.
I mean, I enjoyed Sonic 06's soundtrack more than I did Adventure 2's.
I mean, I enjoyed Sonic 06's soundtrack more than I did Adventure 2's.
Name some of your favourite tracks, outside of the vocal songs, instrumental versions of said vocals, and Crisis City I found every other track incredibly forgettable. I really can't think of any stand-outs. Hard mode: can't post Solaris phase 2.
I enjoyed all of Kingdom Valleys music and Silvers boss fight.
