Name some of your favourite tracks, outside of the vocal songs, instrumental versions of said vocals, and Crisis City I found every other track incredibly forgettable. I really can't think of any stand-outs.
Hard mode: can't post Solaris phase 2.
None of the vocal tracks interested me, and that goes for every Sonic game. I'm naturally averse to vocals in music, but even I can see that the vocal tracks in Sonic games are fairly corny.
To answer your question:
"White Acropolis" (Both tracks)
"Wave Ocean" (all tracks)
"Soleanna Forest"
"Dusty Desert ~ Ruins" (Quicksand is good too)
"Flame Core" (all tracks)
"Radical Train ~ The Chase"
"Aquatic Base" (all tracks)
All the Mephiles boss themes
"Accordion Song"
I'm sure I'm missing a few, but those are the ones off the top of my head.
I enjoyed all of Kingdom Valleys music and Silvers boss fight.
Oh right, I forgot about Silver's battle theme, I had that mentally categorised under Sonic Rivals for some reason.
Egg Wyvern and Egg Cerberus were the best tracks in 06. Eggman's theme was also great, and was still used as his theme until Generations.
Ya know, I'd be a lot happier Sonic Forces was bringing back Sonic's friends if not for what it was like the last time they were all in the same place

Well yes, but two years later DiC decided upon a very different philosophy...

I mean, you can't really go wrong with that.
Speaking of DiC, I talked about comic and TV show characters being introduced into the Sonic games continuity earlier on this thread. I was mostly talking about villains but I think this video here does a proper job explaining why that could never work, I understand that far better now.
Specially considering how much of a mess Sonic's continuity is already with most characters. Skip to 16:30.

Watching this guy play Sonic 06 makes the game look pretty decent.
I forgot about all the awful dialogue of Sonic pointing out obvious things.

That was, for some reason, a corporate requirement in the game's development if I remember right. The developers had to have the characters saying things in levels, even if it was arbitrary shit.

Why in the everloving fuck did they get the bright idea to use that same requirement in Rise of Lyric

hopefully you can use guns as him
hmm... uhm... can he use Wisps?
eh why not, Sonic Runners already showed that anyone can use Wisps.

Looks like he plays mostly the same as Sonic which is a good thing
That chained homing attack looks kinda like the one from Lost-World, which will be cool if it's unique to Shadow.
The description of the video calls it an add-on, which could be important that they're not calling it "DLC," and they also say it's a work in progress. Hopefully they support the game a lot more post-launch.
I wonder what will come first, though. Episode Shadow, or people modding Shadow over Sonic's player-model like they've done for the last two 3D Sonic games on PC.
DLC is a prequel to game's main storyline

Shadow needs to stop being a thing.

So, how exactly does he differ from Sonic's gameplay? Just seems to be a somewhat higher dificulty DLC for some levels based on that poster with Shadow in it.

There's a video a few posts higher. It's mostly like sonic + a few new abilities. I guess the main focus of this dlc is a story.
It's nice to see the level editor from Brawl getting some use in the professional industry.

Over 10 modern sonic levels which is already more than the 9 we got in Generations. Hoping they are longer though. Park Avenue was shorter than Green Hill Zone in Generations (at least from what we've seen).
Simply being able to play Shadow is just icing on the cake. They know people would have just modded him in anyway and are adding him in as a free DLC. I always thought his skating animations were cool and it's a nice ability to be able to play a mostly "reskinned" Sonic.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
I personally like his design. He's a cool character that unfortunately got treated poorly due to games like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06.
I like Silver as well mainly for his design. Like Shadow he had the unfortunate privilege to be introduced into a critically panned game, and to be poorly written as well. His design though is pretty awesome:

I just want to be able to officially play as someone who is not Sonic. And yeah, as redBadger said - his design is pretty cool.
Well, to have that as DLC is fucking retarded and could set a dangerous precedent if they see using other Sonic mainstays as means to garner money. But if it's on-disc DLC modders are gonna bust that wide open. Or at least make Shadow playable for the rest of the game.
[editline]19th September 2017[/editline]
Oh, it's a free add-on. So.. why is it downloadable and not in the base game? Weird.
Not sure if it's known already or not, but got some insider info from my friend who's working for Russian distributor of Sega: PC version pre-order is planned to start on Sept. 21.

Decent design, good themes, he doesn't run like Sonic. Nothing deep to like a character.
Blaze the cat still remains my favorite.

The description for the video states that the gameplay footage for the trailer is from a work in progress PC version, so it's possible they started working on it after their development of the main game and story ended.
Perhaps a bit pessimistic, but I'm a bit suspicious that they might have been forced to send a working version of the game for a deadline to start getting printed, and are spending these last few months patching and programming things in that they hadn't finished in that version. We'll only know for sure once we see how large the Day-1 patch is.

Well apparently Episode Shadow didn't even use anything new, it's 10MB on Microsoft's info. So I don't know what they could've "added" if it was made after the game went gold unless they either planned on paid DLC but didn't go through with it, or it was meant to be a prologue the entire time and the game shipped too early for them to finish it as you said.
