I wonder if he even is a bad guy at all. [editline]19th September 2017[/editline]
Interested in that remix of Supporting Me from SA2's Biolizard Battle, that was one of my favorite songs from the game. A bit hard to hear from that gameplay video but it's a new remix it seems.
It's cool to see Shadow playable, but man does that stage look dreadful. Just a whole fuckton of crates stuck in GHZ with mediocre platforming, that section with the 3 robots and the spring at the end 3 times in a row just hurts to look at.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
I liked the hover shoes, sue me.
What's up with the filter they put on the music whenever they start going fast. Noticed this in the earlier footage too. Sounds like it's being played through a shitty speaker and is really the opposite of what amped up "fast" music should be. Like, just have a fucking extra guitar track or something that kicks in when you go fast or something. Don't put a fucking tin can over my speaker.
It started with Generations, which initially had fast versions of song tracks when the game's starting off but eventually just falls back onto a tinny sound filter for speed emphasis with the rest of the levels.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
because at this point ive become so desensitized to all the weird shit in sonic ive come to embrace most of it
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
He says it himself. No need to doubt the facts!
Someone made a mod that edits Green Hill Zone into Mecha Green Hill Zone from one of the GG games Link
They blur the music because you're supposed to be blurring the sound barrier or something. It's kinda weird but I love the effect when I'm playing the game and in control of it but when I watch videos of other people playing that's when I dislike it.
I really dislike the effect since you're boosting constantly and thus spend most of the level with the music obscured.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
For me personally, I enjoy he's backstory from Adventure 2. I just love the concept really. A military weapon that was created with humanitarian intents in mind. One of the few characters in the series to actually have a meaningful relationship with a human character that didn't feel forced or weird. Also I love how they re-used some of the concepts from past games like the Hidden Palace prophetic mural from Sonic 3 to explain why he's the way he is. Since Gerald used to study ancient civilizations like the Echidna Tribe (Evident with artificial Chaos in both Adventure 2 and Shadow the Hedgehog.) is highly probable he based he's appearence from the Sonic displayed on that mural.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
Pre-flanderization Shadow, in Sonic Adventure 2 (and maaaaybe Sonic Heroes), was a legitimately good character, with a simple but effective backstory, who served as a foil and dark counterpart to Sonic and is probably the best "Eggman attempts to control sealed evil" plot to this day. Shadow wasn't some mindless force of nature like Solaris, Dark Gaia and to a lesser extent Chaos, but an actual character with his own motives, who neither controlled nor was controlled by Eggman. Two villains(Three when Rouge joins the group) with their own motives, working together towards a common goal is something rarely seen in Sonic. His heel-face turn at the end of SA2 was also pretty damn good, ending in his redemption and what should've been his death. Oh well, at least we got post-flanderization Shadow, a lovably retarded edgelord who's basically the best parody of his former self ever written.
I asked primarily because Shadow himself is essentially the poster child of the series' attempts at venturing into "grimdark" and "edgy" territory, which is generally frowned upon by the fanbase--or at least, the contemporary iteration of it. He's also the originator of the "Sonic paint swap" trend that has swept the lower echelons of the fandom.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
Because he was great in Adventure 2, easily my favorite character at the time. He wasn't stupidly edgy in that game either, he was pretty cheesy overall.

I'm well aware that this is kind of a strawman, but this isn't necessarily a well formed opinion but rather a casual observation.

Personally, I don't mind Shadow's edginess, I only dislike that he's a recolor. As far as comparing SatAM with the Adventure games, I appreciate that the former is more grounded in cyberpunk and fantasy than the latter. The same goes for Sonic Forces, in that even though its general premise is analogous to SatAM's, its execution isn't. Of course, I'm not going to insult anyone that feels differently, those are just my thoughts on it.
For the people that enjoy Shadow, why do you like him?
Sassy, narmy rival to Sonic that's essentially him in every way, but strives to be cooler. Excuse the jump in comparison but he's alot like Vergil and Jetstream Sam to me. Darker comparisons to the main protagonist who give off a shave and cooler feel compared to our snarky, hot blooded protagonist spitting quips likes he's on a payroll for it. He's just fun, I can't say too much about his own game but for Sonic 06 there's just a bit of charm to him even if he has awful story altogether. I'll give him props for kicking Silver in the back of the head seeing as that's the second time someone haphazardly rushed at him while he has a magical macguffin crystal.

Which is a lampshade of fandumbs of time olde.
I think Shadow is fine for the most part, he had a satisfying character arc and it ended in a good place. I think the main problem is that Sonic Team has no idea what to actually do with him. His character has reached it's obvious stopping point with his turn to the light in SA2. They just kinda... throw him at random shit instead of shelving him. I don't mind him being in cameos and whatnot but a lot of things felt kind of really stupid. The sudden is shadow a clone??? a alium...??? twists are just bad and reek of the team trying to cash in on the characters popularity without really understanding WHY he was popular. Which is kinda SEGA's MO in the day. I think he's alright. Just mishandled. Also why the hell is this page on facepunch fucked up for me. Like tables are broken and everyone at the bottom of the screen is showing up as banned.

[t]http://www.sonicretro.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Shadow-concept-art.png[/t] I don't know why anybody'd call Shadow a palette swap, he's pretty visually distinct.
Bottom right one kinda looks like what Infinite ended up looking like. One red eye, weird zigzaging hair, edgy as fuck. Glad Shadow look the way he does. While he was more serious, he still had that "cool" factor Sonic had. You know, like a rival would be. Share similar traits and create friction and competition. Plus, air skating shoes?! That's pretty cool. Enough to rival Sonic SA2 sponsored footwear.
It always bugged me that half of the games Shadow is in forget to give him the actual hovering effect he had in SA2. He just sorts of skates along the ground with nothing coming out of the hover shoes.
Also why the hell is this page on facepunch fucked up for me. OT - The fact that they explicitly state that Shadow is free DLC worries me, I don't think SEGA is that scummy (bar recent questionable actions for a certain classic styled game) but what if they add other characters that aren't free DLC I don't want to have to pay $12 to play as Charmy the Bee
You'd pay $12 to play as Charmy?! Who'd want to play as Charmy!?! Speaking of different characters (and Charmy) what if they make Team Chaotix playable as if they were from Sonic Heroes? They already have Tag Team, they could make a Episode revolving around those three and be playable on the main stages afterwards. It would make it unique, since they work best together (as characters mostly) then on their own.

But now they BOTH have boost dash and shadow doesn't even move his feet during his so now I just wonder what's the point of they don't exhaust anymore.
Well, Shadow is a walking Chaos power armory. He powers his shoes with his power, and when he boosts he foregoes that altogether and just flies. (Super) Sonic is the hero of prophecy that used the Chaos emeralds to save the world twice from 2 Angel Island-related disasters. Shadow is implied as having been created based on said prophecies. I kinda like that.
Chaos Emeralds need to stop being a thing. For the people that enjoy Chaos Emeralds, why do you like them?
Yeah sure, who needs MacGuffins?
Seeing as Chaos Emeralds are pretty much relegated to plot device and final boss level gimmick in the mainline games I'd be fine with them being absent for a game or few
