That is kinda the reason why I like Sonic and the Black Knight tbh. Engaging story, good and unexpected plot twist and also no 7 gems, rings or anything like that. Just good old Excalibur from the King Arthur tales.

Because you can turn into super sonic and go faster. The Final Bosses of Sonic Adventure series were dope as hell because of super sonic.

Were they even necessary in Lost World or Colours? I know you had to collect them throughout Unleashed and Generations through the temples and the challenge stages / boss fights but I seem to remember them just being side gimmicks in LW and Colours that just let you turn Super if you wanted to. They haven't been really important to the story since '06.
Speaking of Super Sonic I really wish they would do more with the concept. In most games we just speed boost into peoples faces/weakpoints and that finishes the bosses off. Stuff like Super Shadow's Chaos Spear in the final boss of Shadow the Hedgehog would be nice. Also Chaos Control.
Story-wise they're superfluous, but I can see their merit as a game mechanic to expand replay value; which is, of course, what they were always meant to do.
The thing that bugs me about the Chaos Emeralds is that there seems to be no end to the abilities they have or limits to their power. Yeah the emeralds are extremely powerful but I don't get how they can be more powerful then pretty much anything in existence in the main series. (at lest from a story perspective, gameplay wise it's obvious why.)
There was the Hyper emeralds but they were retconned (I think) because Sonic Team didn't want to have to keep one-up-ing themselves with powerful MacGuffins, there's even an unused voice line in Colors from the final boss with Eggman where he says that Wisp power is stronger than Emerald power but they cut it for the above reason.

I don't know why people suddenly expect companies that use DRM to stop.
I don't entirely get their thought process, but it's obvious by now that negative reception because of it won't effect their decisions.
I wouldn't be surprised if they delayed Mania just to let the good, game based reviews get out the door so that the DRM review bombing would get swept under the rug.
And I also wouldn't be surprised if the exact same "bug fixing" delay happens with Forces.
Companies do what they do because they think it works and they're very stubborn in changing ways.

At least they 'learned' to be upfront about it instead of waiting to the last minute? :v:
I just really hope it doesn't get in the way of the modding scene, since most of the fun I had in Generations was playing around with mods, such as the Classic/Modern level swaps and custom levels.
Didn't Hardlight develop most of the Sonic mobile games i.e. Sonic Jump, Sonic Dash? Do they have any experience with PC ports?

I'd rather have the chaos emeralds be general power sources/macguffins than having a zillion different insanely powerful objects every new game
Got in SA1 the other day and been playing it on my Dreamcast.
Just beat Sonic's story, and I gotta say it's not nearly as bad as I'd heard many make it out to be.
In fact I quite enjoyed a lot of it, but if I have any gripe it's about the camera.
There were so many points where that shit destroyed my flow entirely or messed up my sense of space and got me kinda lost/disoriented for no good reason.
Are there any strats to keep the camera in check with the L and R buttons or do you just gotta learn to get used to it?
That, and the occasional frame drops got a bit obnoxious.
But I'm eager to see the rest of the game.

I actually fucking adore the composition of Hill Top. I just think the instrumentation does a massive disservice to the actual composition because of how ear bleeding half of the instrument samples are.

that would make the most sense i suppose since i guess chaos is technically a good guy now too right? the last we saw him, outside of sonic battle, was SA1's ending where he and tikal disappear right?

Blaze is definitely one of the few characters that I wouldn't mind being in more games. She's great in Black Knight too. I love how she has a fencing sword to go with her more cautious and elegant personality. Also the freaking theme song.
