Windy Valley wasn't that bad to be honest, it also had an awesome remix of Green Grove Zone Act 1 from Sonic 3D Blast. Twinkle Park was cool, though the bumper cart in the beginning controlled like ass. My least favorite Sonic stage in SA1 was Casinopolis. That was straight up shit.
I dunno. After playing SA1 and 2 recently, both games handle incredibly poorly, you play Sonic for a total of 5 seconds and it's so glitchy. I really just don't see what people saw or see in this. I really did find Sonic 06 to be a more enjoyable game.
Personally it's the camera that fucks me over. I can control Sonic pretty damn precisely besides that. I don't think i've ever heard anyone complain about the Adventure games being really glitchy and then say they preferred '06 right after, though.
I really did find Sonic 06 to be a more enjoyable game.
But 06 had the same damn problems as SA1/2. Free running was just the most awkward thing ever. Who remembers trying to run along a wall only for the camera to freak out and you'd fall straight off the wall?
06 was Sonic Adventure 3--people can stop asking for Sonic Adventure 3 now.
Actually, Unleashed is Adventure 3; the Japanese name is Sonic World Adventure.
I will not consider any game Sonic Adventure 3 till I get my god damn Chao garden back.

damn adventure 3 really feels like the classics huh
I don't know about you guys, but I actually like Sonic 4's music. I think you guys should give it a second chance.

Sonic has 9 stages in Adventure 1. Knuckles, Tails and Gamma have 5 stages each, and Amy and Big have 3 stages. Almost twice as many stages as any other characters, and has the longest stages as well.
Sonic has 6 stages in Adventure 2, Eggman and Knuckles have 5, Tails, Rouge and Shadow have 4. Sonic has more stages than any other character, and his gameplay has the highest number of stages.
I know you have this tendency of only playing one third of S3&K or Mania, but you have to realize people actually like playing as other characters than Sonic.

Not quite right- Sonic has 10 stages in SA1, not 9 and Big (for some God-forsaken reason) has 4.
In SA2, not counting Cannon's Core and Green Hill, Sonic has 10 stages, the others have 9, plus 2 kart levels.
This is why I prefer SA1- it's got more of the stuff I actually enjoy and I don't have to keep swapping to other game styles.
Plus, the Shooting and Hunting levels got a lot worse in SA2, but that's an argument I'm not getting into.

Except for when all the characters individually play like total shit including Sonic.
And this is what makes S3k and Mania good is that the characters are 100% optional. This made me actually want to go back and play as Knuckles for that more unique experience. Plus the added benefit of being actually good to control.

Well, my several hundred hours in the Adventures make me disagree with you in terms of controls, but may be due to playing different ports.

I don't like how short stages are.

Ah true, Sonic went to all stages but Hot Shelter, so I assumed it was 10 total and Sonic had 9 then. Brainfart, sorry.
EDIT: Damn, my automerge.
That new stage looked great when I first saw it but rewatching I realize it was just excitement at seeing something new
Literally no enemies and straight line level design. Farttt
IGN has a vid playing the new level, shows more of the level by going down on the lower path. Still not a single enemy but at least it makes the level longer instead of bolting through it like the Sonic youtube channel always does.

To be fair, with this video and the Episode Shadow video, the stages might not have been shown from beginning to end. They're already in motion as the video is fading in, so it might be a bit longer than what we see.

I think I saw like one enemy, but the person playing completely avoided it by going a different path.
I agree it needs more enemies, and maybe even less boosters, since there were areas where classic Sonic should be able to build up speed if the physics allow, but instead is just thrown forward by a boost panel.
I think the lack of enemy is justified (but not COMPLETELY void of them)
Remember, in Sonic Forces you can't recollect your rings if you get hit.
Other than that I'm not seeing anything bad with the new stage. They are probably showing the final stretch of the level.

I doubt it's the final stretch considering the stage timer. The IGN video starts at 26 seconds into the level, and it's close to the part of the level in the Sonic channel's video.
The levels are just short. Atleast the ones we've seen.
Also the Sonic channel clip makes me wonder if there is an option to turn of the in-game character dialog, because that one doesn't have Tails talking to you like the IGN one does.
I can't believe they're using those awful Sonic 4-tier synths for Classic Sonic after how good the Classic music was in Generations, and after Mania's soundtrack pretty much blew me away. The game also looks worse than Generations did despite being on superior hardware. What's more, the level design looks pretty bland and all the levels are way too short. Wouldn't it be funny if Mania ended up being the longer game?
I really wanted this to be at the very least a worthy successor to Generations, but the more I see the worse it looks.

That thumbnail...
When did sonic's body get so rugged?

That was still their decision, if it fucks up level design that's still on them.

It's funny because they're trying too hard to emulate that "old classic" style midi sound but it just sounds bad. Especially telling in the drum part. Why aren't they using a more modern sounding drum? Sounds like they're just putting it straight thru basic midi which is really disappointing.
I really hope after Mania, Sonic Team hires everyone who worked on Mania because they sure as hell know how to do 2D Sonic right better than Sonic Team at this moment.

Kinda baffles me that parts of Generations look better than what we see in Forces. And all they had to do was doing Generations 2...

Sorry for going on a bit of rant here, but I'm going to be completely honest, I've never gotten why exactly people point to these games when they say what they want the new 3D games to be like. I can't find anything to like about them. Cheesy voice acting, weird animations (Why does everyone have a seizure whenever they open their mouths?), and different gameplay styles that all go wrong in various, various ways. Just like various other games, the music is all I can like. I genuinely believe these people just have a case of nostalgia. They don't even get the lip syncing right in the first two games. 06 was a bugfest, yes, but at least it has the whole 'rushed out for the holidays' excuse. I wholeheartedly believe that Unleashed was the first actually good 3D Sonic game.
I just want to know why the fuck it's so hard for them to grasp what isn't good.
I don't want to believe they just don't put effort in but it feels more like it the more I see.
Like, the fuck is up with their bullshit excuse that they can't recreate classic Sonic's physics in the modern engine?
An engine won't limit that. Laziness will.
What baffles me the most honestly, is how their standards seem to be so below what the Mania team had, when they want this to be a direct sequel.
Like, you're gonna play me Tee Lope's OST, give me genuine classic Sonic physics, show me great level design, then have it lead into bad Genesis sound fonts and flat level design, and expect me to enjoy it?

I'm really not liking the Sonic 4-esque music.
