That just highlights everything absolutely wrong with it. I'm kinda convinced the team forgot what slopes were.
Thinking about it, why would Eggman turn ancient ruins into a casino It's one thing to have a Chemical Plant, an Oil Ocean or even a Metropolis, back then Eggman wasn't very complicated and he just spread his mechanical works and pollution everywhere. But when he's conquered the world, everyone probably hates or fears him if they're not fucking dead, and it's likely he probably even fully controls transportation all dictator-style off-screen even though Forces would probably never bother going into that sort of thing. Now that he's a villain with motives, character and hatred.. Why turn some ancient ruins into a casino that no sane person would probably ever go to? Shit, the water's still pure and reflective in the background like nothing's really wrong, so it isn't even a case of pollution and misery. He's just built a goofy ass casino in a remote location no one would ever go except the heroes, for the sake of more Genesis era references. Am I overthinking this? Especially for a game that wants us to take the plot a lot more seriously than the past several games?
Sorry for going on a bit of rant here, but I'm going to be completely honest, I've never gotten why exactly people point to these games when they say what they want the new 3D games to be like. I can't find anything to like about them. Cheesy voice acting, weird animations (Why does everyone have a seizure whenever they open their mouths?), and different gameplay styles that all go wrong in various, various ways. Just like various other games, the music is all I can like. I genuinely believe these people just have a case of nostalgia. They don't even get the lip syncing right in the first two games. 06 was a bugfest, yes, but at least it has the whole 'rushed out for the holidays' excuse. I wholeheartedly believe that Unleashed was the first actually good 3D Sonic game.
I played Unleashed way before any of the Adventure games and despite its flaws, I prefer SA1 over all the boost formula games except maybe Generations. I personally don't want a game to copy everything from SA1 but I at least want to see another attempt at moving classic gameplay into the third dimension.

I think at this point, he's got a few screws loose here and there (pointed out by Classic Robotnick in Generation). He became so obsessed in defeating Sonic, he not only created multiple robotic copies of his nemesis but, seeing how he wouldn't be able to recreate what the original can do, decided to make his own Sonic OC. The man's a tad coo-coo in the head if you ask me. A evil coo-coo.
Also you can tell, springs force Sonic in the middle of them.

The Sonic Mania modding community is legendary.

I can tell you it's not nostalgia. Do I have some gripes? Definitely, but almost all of them come down to issues that were actually very commonplace in 3D games in general at the time. An Adventure style game nowadays, with a competent team that's learned from their mistakes has the potential to be the best 3D Sonic game imo.
I've always hated the old sonic games and I can't really stand playing them but somehow I'm absolutely loving Sonic Mania, it's so lovely and fun
[t]https://i.imgur.com/7TfFKIA.png[/t] I wish I could edit the sprites more efficiently. It's feeling more and more like a hackjob the more work I put into this, but i'm not a very good sprite artist as is.
Being honest the mouth kinda creeps me out. >:y is all I see
I'm really not liking the Sonic 4-esque music.
this is sonic 4-esque? Please, Sonic 4 sounded like a poor imitation of a Casio Keyboard. Casino Forest actually sounds like they got a proper Genesis sound font. (Forces Green Hill on the other hand does sound Sonic 4ced)
Someone had a theory that Rings in Forces will let you buy and unlock stuff for your avatar. Seems to make sense imo, wouldn't be surprised if they went this route.
Someone had a theory that Rings in Forces will let you buy and unlock stuff for your avatar. They love to use rings as currency. :v:
Two days and the update still hasn't been pushed to the Switch. Nice.
what I don't get is why even if rings are the currency, we don't have a proper ring loss system. 4 other games that used rings as currency (SADX, SA2B, Sonic Advance, and Sonic Advance 2) all had proper ring loss and would only bank your rings after clearing a stage.
Is there a reason there is no physical copy of sonic mania
Is there a reason there is no physical copy of sonic mania
It’s ~700MB
It’s ~700MB
And also $$$ It would've cost a bit extra for them to produce physical discs/cartridges and packaging, and Sega wasn't certain of how it would do that they didn't want to release a physical copy other than the collector's edition. In a live-stream after the announcement of the CE, Webber did say that it was something they considered, but they'd need a higher demand for a physical copy of the game itself.
Nintendo apparently takes ages to approve updates.
To be this good takes AGES. At least, Nintendoes what Capcan't. (Assuming you get my jokes...)
Found this while browsing: Neat.
A bit clickbaity because you don't really see any footage, but the process for building it is neat.

Admittedly a lot of this was messing around since there's no way to accurately port some things due to border constraints in the sprite sheets or other things, and I added the Phantom Ruby behind the numbers as a sort of nod to the themed act numbers in S3. Turns out the Game/Time Over sprites nab them on a letter-by-letter basis, meaning if the sprite is even slightly off it gets all messed up. :v: I might add a black outline to the zone name font just so it stands out more like I did with the special stage results.

They have made too much questionable decisions in this game. I think it will be ok for someone who never played sonic games but I'm not sure about everyone else. It will be a shame if the game will have decent story, great music and awful gameplay.
I've decided to replay Sonic Advance 1 and while it's still a fun game I hate the fact when it comes to dangerous placements for the game it's nothing but spikes galore. It's so frustrating to have almost 100 rings and then suddenly lose them all because a flickering spike placement was there while spindashing. It's like the person designing the layouts thought that having spikes everywhere would be a great idea.
