I wanna scream at Sonic Team
Do they profit off shattered enthusiasm or what
like why are they struggling so much to delivery a solid ass game? This isn't their first project
I really hope they pull through. fffuck just delay if they must, bump the price to $50 idgaf i just want a good new 3d sonic game.
Remember, Sonic Mania got said name because Sonic Team deemed it "by the mania, for the mania". Mania is pretty much what Japanese call diehard fans, to the point of obsession. Sonic Team are trying to make a game that clicks with mainstream audiences.
And in doing so, they are ignoring that mainstream audiences tend to like good games. Oh well, japanese culture...
It really does reek of a low-passion, low-budget holiday rushed title. I mean, this is going to be probably one of the worst things to say against Forces and a touchy idea, but at least '06 had ambition before it royally got screwed by severe mismanagement and a rushed release. I was cautiously optimistic at first, but Casino Forest is only "good" in the vague sense that it actually seems to have multiple routes and vague elements of a Sonic level. Everything has been wearing me down, and the game looks more and more like it's been made in a year rather than four years after Runners dropped deader than a doornail, with all of the window "it sold before" appeal plus OC creation with none of the depth or consideration as to why they sell.
I still can't understand why Sega seems to struggle so much with recreating classic Sonic physics and level design.
Especially when they've worked with people who replicated them pretty much 1:1 several times, the latest being released a month ago.

With Sonic 4, it was intentional. They explicitly had Dimps reuse the Rush engine for it to make it different from the originals. While it was only a Reddit post and thus has no authenticity, the thought going around now is that it's too "hard" to recreate Classic Sonic accurately in 2.5D, despite the fact that Dimps actually did a better job with his physics in Generations 3DS than Sonic Team did in the main release.
At this point I think it's like how they don't want to return to Adventure; an arbitrary circumstance of wanting to be different and unique in its own right without relying on just copying what worked. Which is ironic since everything else involved reeks of unsubtle copypaste and nostalgia pandering.
A lot of people will shit on you for being overly pessimistic about a game release but honestly with something like this it's the best thing to do, if only for the fact that it looks so shaky already.
Pessimism is really the only way to win because if it comes out and it's shit, you don't deal with disappointment and having wasted excitement on a failure, but if it comes out and actually ends up alright you can only be impressed.
I was kinda pessimistic from the start as I thought the inclusion of classic Sonic in a non-Generations style game was going to indicate a lack of design focus/originality, but even I wasn't expecting the game to turn out like what we've seen so far. I mean, it doesn't look awful, but it doesn't really bode well that this title was already delayed after having probably originally aimed for the 25th Anniversary of the series.
Honestly, I genuinely think, at least in the case of Switch because it'd be portable, I'd rather they just port Generations over to the Hedgehog Engine 2

This appears to be a glitch - as when Sonic is not rolling his physics seem to be normal.

Well, it better be fixed or made consistent when the game ships.
They had quite decent rolling physics some 26 years ago tho, that's why they get shit thrown their way.
A case of not knowing what made the games good, but rather assuming they were well received because of franchise presence or something. The whole Peter Moore vs. Yuki Naja incident.
On the topic of that casino, just what accounts for Eggman's fixation on casinos and theme parks anyway?
whatever the reason I think eggmanland is a much better goal than just pointless world domination
man's got a vision and he's sticking to it

even if it's crazy theme park across the world
I'm actually excited to see a modern night time casino stage for a change.

might as well call it Sonic 4cess at this point.

Sonic 4: Episode Forc3s
so it seems the Dunkey easter egg was removed with the latest patch for some reason in Sonic Mania

I wonder if it was for legal reasons.
Some theorize that the devs may of snuck it in under SEGA's nose.

In my messing around, I opted to do a CD-style HUD as well. Going in with a set idea helped a lot. Unfortunately i'm really starting to feel the limitations of just trying to replace sprites, since the L's have a large "bounding box" that cause them to get all wonky on zone names, among other problems. The act numbers at the end of a level were bounded with having "act" written on them in mind, so I had to be clever and i'm still not satisfied with my solution on the S3 side.

Is it necessarily pointless to conquer the world if you have some radical new world order in mind (that also happens to stem from megalomania)?
Oh yeah, SAGE 2017 is going on right now. Demos of Sonic 2 HD 2.0 and the Sonic Advance Revamped are up already, among other things.
I can't wait for the full game of Sonic Advance Revamped/Sonic 2 HD to come out :ok:
After playing Sonic 2 HD, I can wait until they fix those audio problems. It's earrape and crunched audio, at least for me with my headphones on.
If I can ask, why exactly is Sonic Lost World considered bad?
And I ask this from a blind viewpoint. I'm just now kinda realizing that I remember people getting excited for the game, it coming out, just hearing "it's bad", and then it kinda dropped off the face of the Earth.
I never even actually hear why people thought it was bad.
It always looked decent enough from the little clips I saw but granted that's not nearly enough to judge.
Show someone a cherrypicked clip of Sonic '06 and you can frame it to look like a masterpiece.

Couple of reasons mostly because Gameplay wasn't consistent and them changing from the Sonic Unleashed Day/Colors/Generations Boost Gameplay

it's mostly due to Sonic's acceleration being tied to a run button ala super mario instead of a gradual increase in speed like one would expect from a sonic game
also Mach Speed sections return with a vengeance.
My biggest gripe with Lost World being the absolute crap Lost Hex. Messy pun-driven incohesive uninteresting setting.
I liked the parkour, do hope they bring it back somehow.
Played thru Sonic 2 HD. Pretty solid, looks great and feels fun to play. Hill Top Zone was definitely my favorite remix, which made the fly buzzing sound a lot less obnoxious. Other than that wasn't really a fan of Chemical Plant Zone's music and I'm a bit impartial on Emerald Hill.

Sonic 06 PC demo was fine. Something felt off about it compared to the Xbox 360 version that I was used to but otherwise it ran okay. Could be a bit better. Cranking the video settings made it around 45 fps for me with little to no actual graphical difference. Felt like the enemies attacked quicker than before.
Wish they had at least another level or two. A bit disappointing to see only one stage, afraid the progress they made already is minimal from the Kingdom Valley demo. Would have liked to at least seen Wave Ocean.
We won't return to Adventure because Iizuka comes off as a roach.
Adventure did really well so there was more adventure- sonic 06 was originally adventure 3.
I think when 06 bombed something clicked in his head and he realized "something has to change if Sonic is going to stay alive." So the boost games were born.
Much like Adventure the Boost games were hailed as loved and (at the time) people loved the wisps so we got more of that. "Sonic is finally back woo-hoo."
After a few games Iizuka feels confidant in greenlighting Lost World which would try to move the series forward and... you know how that turned out.
"Why would they ruin sonic after boost is so well received?" "Why are they trying to ruin sonic again" etc being the general response.
Cut to forces and hey!!! Boost is back guys!!! Be happy!! We heard you and Lost Worlds mechanics are gone!!
Kinda how I'm reading things anyway.
