finally finished up my first playthrough of Mania, didn't manage to get all of the emeralds but [sp]Metallic Madness had pretty great music, first act boss was a surprisingly big pain in the ass but the second act one was pretty great for what it is. Really didn't like Titanic Monarch though, they used those annoying energy balls and bumpers waaay too much. Final boss was underwhelming but that's okay since it isn't you know, the true final boss.[/sp]
Probably gonna hit up a solo Sonic run next, but not before familiarizing myself with where a majority of the large rings are so I can guarantee I get all of the emeralds.

You mean you didn't destroy your first playthrough with a frustration trial-and-error re-run of every act in every level as you went through it, determined to get the emeralds through blind running and jumping at every wall at every angle in every location you can think of?
pfft can you believe this guy

i kinda wanted hyper sonic tbh i miss that

Or you can grind the emeralds using first level ring like I did. :v: The rings are not locked so after restarting level you can use it again to get the next emerald.
fuck
Or you can grind the emeralds using first level ring like I did. :v: The rings are not locked so after restarting level you can use it again to get the next emerald.
Last I checked you can only do that on a Clear save; if you try hitting up a special stage ring mid-run at all, even if you quit out and back again or don't even complete the stage in it, it damn well remembers so you can't cheese it easily.
I think I've finally noticed with Forces, is that one of my major issues with modern Sonic is how it just doesn't even try to have any sort of style or fashion.
Like, I don't really know how to properly put it but classic Sonic stuff has style.
Mania is a great example of this in just how beautiful, flashy, and smooth everything is.
I feel like this attempt has just straight up never been made in 3D, and Forces looks outright uninspired.
I know we're going fast and we aren't supposed to be slowing down to look at stuff, yadda yadda, but come on.
Give us some beautiful scenery. We have the tech. Stop giving us uninspired last gen fidelity backgrounds for stages and give us something equivalent to Mania's Stardust Speedway but in 3D.

Yeah, this might be the case because I did that on Clear save.
This whole incoming disaster with Sonic Forces is reminding me of the whole deal with Taxman's Sonic CD remake where it was made to tie in with their flagship, but inferior product Sonic 4
Much like the endgame of Sonic Mania was made to tie in with their flagship product :v

The sad thing for me is seeing the Avatar QTE cutscenes. In 60 FPS and proper HD resolution, they're actually pretty striking and surprisingly well-animated, showing that when Sonic Team put the animation effort in for something cinematic, it can actually look pretty good. If the story trailer is anything to go by, though, all the normal cutscenes could potentially be locked to 30 FPS, and the rest of the game doesn't really look up to par with these moments at all.
even if all of it was majestically animated it doesn't matter much because the art direction in this game from what they've shown is nonexistent, environments are as dull and uninspired as you can get, the custom characters look, well, yeah you know, and all the assets look disjointed as if just put together from a random pool
in other words it ugly
i firmly stand behind the fact that with *maybe* some exceptions in colours and generations, unleashed is the most beautiful 3d sonic games we've had to date (especially in HD with that beautiful shader and lighting):

so why in the fuck does forces, a game coming out nearly 10 years later on newer hardware, look so dull and low quality?
i hate having to make this comparison but it's the only thing that comes to mind - it's sonic 06, except this time they had over a *year* to polish the game.
could you imagine what it'd be like if forces came out on june 23rd of last year?
Unpopular opinion: I think hedgehog engine 2 looks awesome but got bogged down by unimpressive level layout and stale camera angles.
They just need a level where you run THROUGH the place, not AROUND it.
Is it just me or Sega seems to have a lot of trouble with quality control and deadlines?
It honestly happens way too often compared to any other video-game company. They always seem to rush games and they always end up being these catastrophic pieces of software. First was with Sonic 06, Then it happened again to Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and it seems to be happening again for Forces now.
They should port Generations to Switch.

Sonic Team seems to do the exact opposite of what people want.
Aside from the Werehog, Unleashed was their best 3D sonic in terms of gameplay, level design, and story.

I would say Generations improved on it after Unleashed.
I would say Generations improved on it after Unleashed.
Gameplay yes there were a few elements that were improved but I disagree on level design.
Almost all the stages can be beaten in about 2 minutes and don't have as much alternate paths as Unleashed. It's also not as challenging but that's just my opinion.
I know they are very afraid to go the open-world route after the fallback sonic 06 had, but I would really like something among the lines of Sonic Adventure 2 again along with hub worlds. It would definitely make me more interested in picking up the games again.

Something thing I noticed in that video is right after the QTE sequence, the player charges the Wispon at max before tearing thru the line of robots but not before the enemies fire at him. One projectile goes thru the Hero and a second gets really in it's face, both should have hit.
It's probably for the sake of demonstration that they put themselves in "god" mode but kinda diminishes the effect of danger in the demo.
That or the hurtboxes on those projectiles are tiny and the Hero leaning back actually allowed him to avoid connecting with them. Knowing my luck, if I was playing, I would've been hit by that.
It's a small observation I wanted to point out. Still doesn't help the game's presentation much but it kinda shows that enemies do react and aren't as slow as I initially thought. They still feel like cannon fodder and just... there to be there really.
Is it me or does it look like momentum isn't a thing. It looks like you lose all your speed the moment you tried doing anything but run
Despite the lesser aspects of it i absolutely loved sonic unleashed, its pretty as fuck, the day segments were pretty fun ( OST was really good ) and i like any game that gives you a "journey" across the world
Team A is a mess, Generations and Unleashed were made by Team B
Is this true or are you just talking out of your ass
Team A is a mess, Generations and Unleashed were made by Team B
I know that Sonic Team has different divisions but they literally advertised it as "by the team that made Generations and Colours" which is exactly why people got hyped up. Forces looks to be a mess which is why people are kind of surprised now.
It's more like "the team that made Colors and Lost World," with some Generations/Unleashed folks along for the ride.

Since talking about the lack of "style", and in a more refined sense, just good art direction in 3D Sonic games, I'd actually totally
forgotten about Planet Wisp. This is easily the most beautiful modern Sonic stage created, at least in my opinion.
Why can't this sort of level of design be reached on a more frequent basis? I'm not asking for every level to make my eyes pop, but damn,
try to get in at least a few per game.

Planet Wisp was beautiful but boy did I hate the stage when it got to the 2D platforming section.
