All the stages shown so far are pretty damn short, I doubt the demo specifically just drops players off midway through the stage just to have some big reveal that they're actually a lot longer.

Considering it's a Green Hill-y zone, with a lot of hint icons, it's likely the first stage/tutorial so it's not meant to be long, just a starting point for the story. The first act/tutorial for Sonic Unleashed (360/Ps3) can be beaten in 30 seconds by speed-runners. You can beat both acts of GHZ in Generations in under 5 minutes combined, with or without items and speed exploits.
I doubt they've been showing off any mid/late game stages to us since it seems like a more story-oriented game with the dialogue in levels; it's likely later stages will be longer.
But what we have seen so far is still pretty short, and the enemies seem to only exist to give you boost/homing attack chains, or force you to attack them and show off the new weapons.

Nah, probably just a bit of fan service for comic fans. Yet I don't see why it will be odd addition considering forces' plot is centered around characters traveling through dimensions and/or time.

At this point I don't have any hopes for an interesting gameplay. Though I'm ready to close my eyes on that if the story is at least decent.
That's how long the levels in the SEGA console games tend to last, you know.

I'm honestly lost to the benefits of making the gameplay sequences [I]this[/I] restricted, and this is coming from a long time fan of the series. I [I]know[/I] scripted gameplay sequences are a part of Sonic. But this looks dreadful. I know it's just potentially a small section of the first stage, but it does not paint a good picture for the rest of the game.

Yep, street date has been broken in the US and Russia so spoilers are being posted literally everywhere, so be careful.
